Yea, the whole album is great. Top & Shit Towne are fucking awesome songs! Throwing Copper was the first CD I ever bought.

Mine was Temple of the Dog. And thats why, I don't like to answer the question. Temple of the Dog or Ten. Because, Temple of the Dog was playing constantly in my house, by the end of the year people must've thought that Cornell lived here!

I would put Throwing Copper in my top 10 all time favorite albums list. Every song is fucking oustanding. White Discussion is often overlooked and might be might favorite song on the album.

Its a great album and the best songs (Stage, Shit Towne, Waitress, White Discussion) never got any radio play (swears may have played a part in that).

Was just listening to it the other night for the first time in a while.

Throwing Copper is my second favorite album ever, above every PJ album. Yes, hard to believe. But every song is incredible (except the bonus track, but I don't count that). The Dam at Otter Creek is the best opener that could ever be written, and White, Discussion is the best closer that could ever be written. This CD never gets old. Too bad the rest of their albums are only mediocre, IMO.
The words you say never seem to live up to the ones inside your head...
  • It is definitely an amazing record and agree that this and Secret Samadhi are their best efforts.

Unfortunately I must say that I can't think of another band that has gone downhill so much with each and every following album. I have made it a point to get everything they put out because I know it's the same guys who made those great earlier albums, but my God, their last few albums have really stunk up the joint IMO.
  • Songs from black mountain, and birds of prey are way better then secert samadhi thats a good album. The last poster saying live fell off must not really listen to there new work cuz its great.

Actually I listened to them very closely and really WANTED to like them. But if it ain't there it ain't there.

But again this is just my opinion.

This and Distance to Here are their best. I love the guitar solo to Shit Towne and TDAOC is one of the creepiest (in a good way) CD openers right up there with The Cure's One Hundred Years off of Pornography.

  • I LOOOOVVVEE Throwing Copper. If I am not mistaken, when I was in 11th grade, I listened to it every day for 2 1/2 months. I put it on every night either after school or right before bed or both. And I never got sick of it.

I know people like "Lightning Crashes," but it is still underrated. It is one of the great songs ever. I also agree with the earlier post that "White Discussion" is too overlooked. Live really nows how to close out an album, be it "Gas Hed Goes West," "Dance With You," or "White Discussion"--- (not counting the hidden track)

Also, I really like Birds of Pray. I think "Heaven," "She," "Rivertown," "Like I Do," and "The Sanctity of Dreams" are all pretty good.

  • Even though Pearl Jam is, was, and always will be my favorite band, there is one thing they never could quite do for me. As much as I love PJ's albums, Live's "The Distance to Here" is my all time favorite record. I think, start to finish it has 13 classic songs.

No matter how sappy "Run to the Water" is, I will always love it. "They Stood Up For Love" shows how good Live's songwriting skills can be when they really try. "Feel the Quiet River Rage," "Sparkle," "Meltdown," "Voodoo Lady," "Where Fishes Go," and "Face and Ghost" are some of the best hidden gems any album has ever had. Plus, I don't think any album ends better than the one-two punch of "We Walk in the Dream" and "Dance With You"---the latter also happens to be my wedding song.

    What a great album.

Throwing Copper is a must-own, classic of the 90's - truly one of the greatest rock records of all time.

As for the guys attacking the new stuff - they are still making some good music, just not every song.

If you love LIVE but don't want to buy the whole new album (Black Mountain, just download these songs and you will not be disappointed:

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
NIGHT OF NIGHTS (arguably the best LIVE song since Throwing Copper/Secret Samadhi)

i agree cuz i have disliked some of their stuff at first and then replayed it in a different stage of my life and absolutely loved it...i used to be so PANTERA METALLICA crazy and then i guess u mellow somewhat but i still llisten to those bands just not as much as i used to.the distance to here was one i hardly played before the death of my daughter.now i play it alot
