Recently discovered so much great metal

It's taken 26 years of my life to get into real metal, but better late than never.
Pantera
Sepultura
Cavallera Conspiracy
Down
Meshuggah
Gojira
Between the Buried and Me
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Mastodon
... all totally amazing. Here's to the next 20 bands I hear for the first time.
Edit: Oops, wrong forum. Ah well.

Yes.... it's quite a hobby. I'm in HMV detecting metal like every day. I think I found the holy grail under the carpet but a group of kids wouldn't get out of the way of Guitar Hero for me to have a look.

Listen to Human, Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance. SO good.
Also the vocals are more shouted than growled which is novel for death metal and good if you're still a metal newbie
strength, determination, merciless, forever....
that's their theme and a song.....
good night, Mark
im out...
and welcome to the metal...it is awesome having you
"Hear me, my chiefs!
I am tired; my heart is
sick and sad. From where
the sun stands I will fight
no more forever."
Chief Joseph - Nez Perce
Cool.. will do

And I second BLS. Get thyself to Last.fm - great for picking up new bands
I'm loving me some Doom Metal at the moment for all my sitting in a darkened room needs!
ETA: The metal section in shops is crap - they've put Pearl Jam in there now

SMELL YER MA!
I also don't entirely get what all these genres about.
What's the difference between Death and Doom? Doom and Black?
Sludge? Grind-core? Math-core? Hardcore?
I have figured out I'm not a huge fan of thrash. I just find it boring.

Meshuggah are from my gf's hometown, what HMV do you go?

Don't get bogged down on genre's now. You will notice it as you get more into it which genre's you do like more. For me, I love Doom, Sludge, Heavy/Thrash, some Death and Black metal - I detest anything that ends in -core

Pantera is correctly placed at the top of your list.:) Too bad you never got to see them... they put on one hell of a show!!!
Megadeth is another band you should check out... preferbly the older stuff. I haven't heard any of their stuff after Youthanasia, so I can't vouch for them, but Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction are two great albums.
the difference between them is they all vary slightly in level of shitness.
Toronto 2011 night 2
Hamilton 2011
London 2013
My favourites are progressive metal as I'm really into Opeth, Dream Theatre, etc.
It's good to discover new music.
albums,Black Sabbath,Book Of Black Earth, Melvins, Boris... the list cold go on
and on really
megadeth rocks
old & new
imo, alot of the new stuff is more intelligently written lyrically....
perhaps because dave is drug/booze free...so he says anyway.
megadeth has some pretty awesome lyrics turned to sound....
pretty much genius to my notion...
btw, imo....youthanasia is one fantastic cd...
the live dual cd "rude awakening" is ass kickin.
i have the "rude awakening" dvd as well.... brutal, just fucking brutal

Pantera
Sepultura
Yeah I like Youthanasia a lot!! Those first two songs to kick off the record are fucking BRUTAL:cool:
But you left out Individual Thought Patterns, which is probably their technical crowning achievement. Awesome songwriting!
8/25/92, 10/4/96, 10/5/96, 9/1/98, 9/4/98, 8/4/00, 8/6/00, 4/15/03, 4/16/03, 10/6/04, 6/16/08
I haven't heard Individual Thought Patterns yet. I'll remedy this as soon as possible.
Yeah, if you like Human and Symbolic that album is like the missing link. He had Steve DiGiorgio on bass, Andy Larocque from King Diamond's band on guitar, and the mighty Gene Hoglan on drums. Fucking classic!
The opening track...Overactive Imagination

Hoglan is always incredible too.

Cryptic Writings was a solid album, with a good mixture of heavier and radio friendly material. Risk is the one the entire fanbase hates. It was just too much of a departure. Its Megadeth's version of Cornell's "Scream", though not as much of a radical change. The World Needs a Hero was a half-assed attempt to get heavy again, and save a few songs, its just boring.
