    If you decide to eat the newt/eft. It's basically the same kind of toxin that many toads also secrete (It's an amphibian thing). You don't want to prepare/touch food, your eyes or your mouth after handling the buggers. It could make you quite sick.

    We used to have a couple of newts but I can't remember what kind they were....and some really cool (water) frogs and even some turtles. Not all at once, obviously! The turtles got so big (and nasty) that we had to take them back to nature. Man, I miss those creatures!

    Oh, okay, I understand. When I was growing up we lived on a lake and had all kinds of toads that used to do that. The rumor at the time was that it could make domestic animals like dogs and cats blind.

    Domestic toads can make them sick....I'm not sure about blind. Parts of Florida have non-native toads that pack more of a wallop. I believe some can kill dogs or cats if not treated immediately.

    I have to share this.I was taking my 7 year old to school this morning.And we were talking about going to Orlando.She loves Disney World.She was asking me when we were going to go again.And I told her that Pearl Jam might be playing in Orlando soon and she said"Oh good! then you can see your little budddies again."I had to laugh.

    Had your state bird, the Brown Thrasher, singing out in my front yard yesterday evening. The woodpeckers, mostly Red-bellieds, have been calling a lot around here. I have not seen either species of nuthatch for a couple of days...must be on the nest and some eggs. The South can be a beautiful place. :)
