A buddy and mine are sittin here drinkin and listenin to STP, and we just realized that we really don't know why they broke up. I can't find anything on the internet about it except perhaps because of velvet revolver. But we thought that they had broken up before velvet...any input would be awesome!

the band got tired of having to deal with Scott's constant drug troubles.

  • it's a shame because velvet revolver blows compared to STP. Slither, their first single, was the only thing that caught my attention, otherwise I hated their first album and have no intentions of buying their new one. It's songs like "Fall to Pieces" that make me cringe and miss the days of STP.

  • I'm pretty certain there was an altercation betwixt Scott and Dean Deleo. It's a pity, cos I stuck on all my STP albums yesterday, and really fucking enjoyed them... Hell, I even listened to Army of Anyone for the first time in ages. The Deleos need to stay busy...

Matt is the man to ask, but I believe that Scott's drug problem was just a constant struggle for the band. It was causing them problems with touring, and putting out cd's. Also, Atlantic Records had pretty much given up on them and they just weren't getting the kind of promotion from the record company that they deserved. But mostly there were problems between Scott and the rest of the guys. And I believe it was Rob and Scott who pretty much got into a fist fight after one their shows. And after their last tour, the Deleos just pretty much called it quits.

It really sucks cause they were my absolute favorite band for a long time. They just fucking rocked. And the Deleos are two of the most underrated and under appreciated rock musicians around.

Oh yea. I'm so sorry that I haven't gotten it up yet. I do have it here, I just totally forgot. I don't have time either to put it up tonight, but if you can shoot me a pm tomorrow reminding me, I will definitely do it. Just to make sure though, which HOB show are you talking about because there were a few. (I also have a video of one, but am not sure how long it would take to put up, but just let me know and I will try and host as much stuff as I can).

I'm looking for the one where they play 'Roadhouse Blues'.

I wish the Deleo brothers and Izzy could have wrote Velvet Revolver's album for them. Slash, Duff, and Scott are all good musicians, but terrible songwriters these days. VR would make a great cover band though.

if u like STP so much go blow them all, this topics not a comparison between STP and VR. STP havent broken up they're on hiatus.

Hiatus is bullshit. According to an interview in December of 2003 I believe (maybe it was '02, I know longer remember), Dean and Rob said they were "leaving the band". That's a break up. If they want to get back together, that's awesome, and I would love it as much as anyone else, but, lets be honest. They're not on "hiatus".

I had high hopes for Army of Anyone as well.... the deleo's are amazing underated musicians (people who say Core is a pearl jam ripoff... pfft.. listen to the guitars...)... but it ended up being pretty terrible.. almost as bad as VR

    I to really miss STP

I actually learned to really enjoy AoA. The music on the album is awesome. The Deleos in my opinion wrote music that was equal to everything they ever wrote with STP in my opinion. I definitely am not a big RP fan, but some of the songs are not half bad, and they had there own sound that I can still appreciate. The drummer also, I'm not a huge fan of. He's talented, but over anxious and over excited. He needed to play less fills, and I just didn't like the sound of his drums.

But all in all, this is definitely an album I will go back to with some regularity because the Deleos just owned all over the place.

    Also, they were great live.

I think a more accurate question would be, "How did STP stay together for so long?"

Car wrecks, arrests, rehab, bipolar disorder.......it's really amazing how many chances those guys gace Scott Weiland.

Or the other question that could be asked "How did Scott Weiland not die after doing so much heroin?"

He did. Slash and Duff have assumed the Andrew McCarthy & Jonathan Silverman roles for a hilarious new album: "Weekend At Weiland's"

Something just occurred to me... is Jonathan Silverman Sarah Silverman's brother? Because then if Jonathan Silverman was his sister, I would want to fuck Jonathan Silverman.
