    The Tragically Hip
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

    -Tom Waits
  • oh man, definitely U2 or the RHCP.

the way they both play the same 90 minute setlist every single night, 250 dates in a row, totally dialing in every last second to the fans that paid 80 bucks a ticket

    Purely amazing.

    Seriously though, SIGUR ROS.

"Best" is such a bad word when it comes to music.

    Most exciting for me: MASTODON
    Athens, Greece: 2006/09/30

"Call me Ishmael. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world." Herman Melville : Moby Dick
  • These 2 are pretty amazing:

    Sigur Ros

    Kings Of Leon
'The more I studied religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.' - Sir Richard Francis Burton
  • Pearl Jam
    Chris Cornell
    STP

Kings of Leon, simple as that!

  • I think Kings Of Leon are the most exciting band to have emerged in a fair few years. Pearl Jam will always be my favourite though. NIN aren't far behind - particularly as a live band.

All things considered, back catalogue, consistency, eagerness to keep pushing on, doing what they want to...not what they are advised or what they think will please the majority. Being steadily original, and fresh and honest, and also putting everything into their live performances......well, there's no contest. Pearl Jam :)

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

  • I have to say Pearl Jam. I really don't think that many bands who exist today can match the sheer strength of their catalogue. Consistently amazing.

Wrong thread. You are looking for the one where all the clueless people post.

Neon Bible is the best album of the decade to this point, and after never thinking I would say such a thing, Arcade Fire have equaled, if not bested, Pearl Jam in terms of live shows.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

    Drive-by Truckers....with Pearl Jam a close second.

you've never been to a u2 show have you?

i shouldn't question you though. i know too many hipsters like you to ever think my opinion counts for anything when weighed against the genius of a loser who spends 22 hours a day listening to albums so that he can pretentiously pass judgment on artists who have accomplished more than you ever will in your mom's basement. thanks for telling us all arcade fire was soooooo 3 years ago. did you come up with that yourself or did your mindless pitchfork worshipping record store buddies give that gem to you? perhaps it was stolen from your kid sister's discussion of her wardrobe?

on the upside, you make me realize how no matter how bad my life is, at least i'm not as lame as record store clerks.

my vote goes to buckcherry, for fucking the wives, mothers, sisters, and girlfriends of all the wanker indie bands listed here and then doing lines of coke of their tits before kicking the shit out of the lead singers.
    and like that... he's gone.

I think their music is shit but any band who does that deserves the title.
Musically though I'd give it to sigur ros right now for being pretty consistent musically.
