I wish Radiohead and Tool had some awesome live DVDs. I'm sure they'd be right up there with everything else we've mentioned.
Well for radiohead, The Astoria London Live is a great Dvd... unfortunatly it came out just after The Bends, so there is nothing on there from Ok Computer onward.

Rory Gallagher Irish Tour is an amazing DVD , besides the brillant music , you have rory going into music shops and showing different styles of music on guitar and him meeting his fans

Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet but go check out Festival Express. All things considered it's not the best DVD out there but it is awesome. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall on that train. . .

Can't believe I've never replied to this thread. I'll go ahead and include all music vids and not just concerts.
Zeppelin-S/T and Celebration Day Pink Floyd-Live @Pompeii and Gilmour's Remember That Night Black Crowes-Freak n Roll, Cabin Fever White Stripes-Under Blackpool Lights Raconteurs-Montreux The Band-Last Waltz It Might Get Loud Wilco-Ashes of American Flags Beatles-Anthology Rush-In Rio MMJ-Okonokos Ain't In It For My Health
The original question is 100% subjective, there's obviously no one "correct" answer. I canNOT believe how much people are arguing in this thread! Shouldn't be surprised, but for some reason in this thread it did surprise me.
That said, going to original question, I agree with a lot of the ones already named (and need to check out many others named that I haven't seen), but I'm going to add "Stop Making Sense" by the Talking Heads. And there's a Japanese live Clash show from when Topper Headon was still the drummer that is AWESOME to watch. That one too, might be my number 1. It's on youtube, no idea if it was ever "released".
Iron Maiden - Live After Death - the first concert video I ever saw on VHS from a rental store, and still my favorite live concert of all time. other notables U2 at Slane Castle White Stripes - Under Blackpool Lights (although the Glastonbury 2005 is better) Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - Live at Hollywood Bowl REM - live at Nurburgring in 2005 is fantastic
alot of the European festival tv broadcasts are better than commmercially produced dvd's
STP - Alive in the Windy City.. hasn't been mentioned. Quite refreshing to see them all have their shit together for a night. Wish I would've seen them on that tour. As it is, I'll never get that opportunity. Ever.

They were pretty awesome on that reunion run. Saw them at a small outdoor venue right up front. Just a great show. I think I prefer some of the live performances for the Greatest Hits companion dvd, but they're a great band with a great live sound. No complaints about any of it.
All DVDs of any show suck ass I can't watch any of the shit being talked about here , nirvana , aic & all are fucking lame .....
Watchootakinboutwillis?
Just wanted to see the response that would get , on a serious note I do own some DVDS haven't watched them in a long time one of my fav is def Stop making sense .....

I heard that Radiohead basically despise their fans, which i was disappointed about. So that is probably why there isn't much of that from them (yes, I am replying to an 8 year old post).

Some great ones have been mentioned like Led Zep and the Alice in Chains, Nirvana unplugged shows, but everyone knows those. Here's some that aren't so well known but just as good in my opinion...
Shut Up And Play The Hits - This is the LCD Soundsystem DVD about their last ever shows, it's a music documentary with a whole lot of live concert footage in it. Really good and well worth checking out, the live parts are quite incredible.
No Distance Left to Run - Is another music doco, this one's about Blur when they reformed and comes with a whole concert with it from Hyde Park. Great!
Everything, Everything - Live concert for Underworld, absolutely one of the best music DVD's around, just builds and builds. Amazing.
Nas: Time Is Illmatic - If you like Hip-Hop this ones about the making of Nas' first album the classic Illmatic. Has some live concert pieces in it too. Highly recommended.
Screamadelica Live - From a couple of years ago when Primal Scream toured playing their album Screamadelica from start to to finish with a few of their other tracks in there too. Most enjoyable.

The full show of Shut Up and Play the Hits is really good. Quite long, but a great performance. Everything, Everything is a great audio recording but the video needs a serious update. It was so bad I could hardly focus on it.
Nirvana Unplugged > AIC Unplugged. For me, the emotion of Kurt's performance was what put it over. AIC's musicianship was second to none, but so are the Eagles. The Eagles make great music, but they stand there and phone it in. That doesn't make for a great live DVD. Emotion does. And the covers thing? That was done on purpose by Kurt so as to not milk their celebrity. Dave Grohl was quoted as saying "there was no way we were going to do Teen Spirit unplugged". Kurt wanted to pay homage to his heroes.
And while I'm not personally a fan, Oasis ARE a great band. And metal has fabulous technical musicians, but I don't give a rats ass about technical prowess. Anyone can practice and become perfect at something. Doesn't mean that translates to good music. I've never been a fan of the masturbation that is a metal guitar solo.
