Are there any other hole fans out there? Please put aside anti-courtney rants when you answer this question, there was 3 other members in the band and their musical talent shouldn't be downgraded just because their lead singer had a lot of bad publicity. Just remember you dont have to like a artist in order to like their work.

  • well yeah I like Hole (mostly the first 2 albums), and I wish Courtney would get her shit together and record some good stuff (unlike her solo album, which was, well, rather crap).

but above all, I'm really looking forward to Melissa Auf der Maur's second solo album, the first one was awesome
  • I love Hole, great band. Apparently Courtney is getting her shit together, and has been writing with Billy Corgan and Jerry Cantrell, can't wait to hear what they come up with.

Billy did write also in "celebrity skin", that is an album that you can listen with pleasure while bathing, but that is quite too much commercial and radio-friendly...

That is so good to hear.
I wonder what that will sound like?

Wow....seven posts and no flames.............love listening to Hole...enjoyed the last two albums, Melissa's solo record and the unplugged show, which I acquired a boot of last year. Courtney's solo record did leave much to be desired. I think that she would have been wiser to keep Hole together.

Did everybody know that the Lemonheads song on the "SchoolHouse Rock Rocks" cd is actually Evan Dando with Patty Schmel (sic) and Melissa Auf Der Maur?

Yeah she also did that about ten years ago, and has since written in to rolling stone defending Eddie Vedder after they trashed him, so maybe not so much of a cunt.

The solo album was released before it was really ready, even by her own admission, Courtney thinks most of it was shit, but the record company pushed her to release it before it was done.

Yeah there's a video of it somewhere.. I actually wasn't surprised..

How did RS trash eddie and how did she defend him?

she wrote in and basically said you have no right to judge him if you haven't been in the situation yourself. at the time of that show where she made the guy take his shirt off, pearl jam were huge, even Eddie says he much preferred a band like Mudhoney's sound to PJ's - Pearl Jam were everywhere kind of like Fall out boy are at the moment, so it was quite natural that people would have had enough of having PJ shoved down their throats - the crucial difference was that although overhyped, Pearl Jam were indeed very talented and credible artists.

Back on the subject of Hole and Courtney Love, she is a very underrated lyricist and if people could get past the weird and shocking behaviour they might be quite surprised.
  • I agree with facepollution. Courtney's an underrated lyricist. Hole rocks. I miss
    her anger and honesty. Angst!

Already addressed a few posts above.

P.s If you actually listened to any of Hole's music it's quite clear that Courtney wrote the lyrics, and musically the similarity to Nirvana is well....not there at all.

Hole was one of my favorites - pre-celebrity skin. Haven't listened to it much in the past few years, but actually have a few songs on my ipod for the gym - it keeps you going. I actually preferred Courtney before she glammed up her image. Not as a person, but a musician. The music was raw & not so commercial. Would look forward to hearing that from her again.

    I'm a big Courtney/Hole fan

I been kinda excited about her new album but I'm scared she's overthinking it and its gonna go the same way as Chinese Democracy. She needs to trust her instincts more but then I guess it must be hard when you are absolutely vilified.

Its kinda interesting that when most people criticise Courtney it seems to come accross as nothing more articulate than illeducated, vile misogyny

i never really heard any of the hole albums, it may have to do with the fact that courtney is a witch, but i always did like they're cover of 'gold dust woman'.

I just love the way everybody seems to know Courtney better than they do any other celebrity. Also the complete faith these people have in tabloid media, what trusting people they are.......

Anyway, since this thread is supposed to be for fans of Hole, here's one of my favourites from Celebrity Skin:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=mUu_cY8TM5Q

    Dying

    You see the cripple dance
    Pay your money, baby
    Now's your chance
    Eyes like cyanide

    I am so dumb
    Just beam me up
    I've had it all forever
    I've had enough

    Remember, you promised me
    I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
    Under your skin

    Our love is quicksand
    So easy to drown
    They steal the gravity, yeah
    From moving ground

    Remember, you promised me
    I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
    Under your skin

    And now I understand
    You leave with everything
You leave with everything I am
    Withering

And now I know that love is dead
    You've come to bury me
There's nothing left here to pretend
    Anything

    Remember, you promised me
    I'm dying, I'm dying, please
I want to, I need to be
    Under your skin

    I'm dying, I'm dying, please (3 x's)
    Under your skin

    Under your skin

'live through this' was an amazing album only because kurt cobain wrote all the songs. regardless of what you think of him he was an amazing song writer.

What on earth makes you think he wrote all the songs? They don't sound like Nirvana, and you know there were actually other people in the band?

i liked them before but now are they still around ? i do not think so...

the big deal? he would have killed himself before he ever let his name be used to sell merchandise for some corporation, even if he wore said merchandise.

personally i wouldnt care if it were me, but if i had a wife who hated the whole commercialism thing and I knew without a doubt that she would never want her name to appear on a shoe made by 12 year olds in Vietnam, i sure as hell wouldnt spit on her grave by pimping her name out to make a quick buck.
