RHCP @ the Grammys

  • I also liked how mike sneered when stone thanked dave a.
  • RHCP may have survived the 90's, but they are no longer a good band. The newer stuff is poppy, predictable and recycled. They used to be a serious band. I think "snow" is a decent song, but stuff like "Dani California" and "Tell Me Baby" all seem to sound alike and put me to sleep. They're running out of ideas and it's painfully obvious.

Dani California pretty much ripped off Mary Jane's Last Dance...I just dont think the stuff RHCP have done in recent years is all that good. Alot of the stuff off of By The Way and Stadium Arcadium is just so pop. I was surprised they played Snow last night, a very slow paced, boring closer. Flea was jumping up and down trying to get things going, but it never really happened. As to being as good as Pearl Jam, RHCP's earlier stuff was very good, and they are all talented musicians, but i think that for the most part Stadium Arcadium was boring, using alot of the same chord progressions, and not really challenging themselves. PJ = much better.

..thats why they're on the grammies, songs brought to you by corporate america, for the masses.

i'm just glad that PJ was nowhere to be found last night the farther the better, the grammy's are a bullet to any self caring band too bad for the PEPPERS to have chosen this path for their down ward spiral ......oh yeah fuck the POLICE .....
jesus greets me looks just like me ....

Why is there so much hate for the RHCP? They are one of the few good bands out there. Plus they are one of the few who survived the 90s.

i personally don't hate the chilis. actually like them, but imo i though they mailed in their performance except for flea (as per another member's post) and sure ed has his opinion of the grammy's as per his previous acceptance speech...but hey i'm just looking out for pj, i sincerely believe they deserve the recognition despite if they want it or not...

    cheers

At one point, a host or presenter, i cant remember, said "and later, the Red Hot Chili Peppers with a performance everyone will be talking about tomorrow." Yeah, talking about how boring. I remember seeing all that confetti thinking, wow, did RHCP switch the song they were supposed to play? How could the award show coordinators put that together knowing the song was so boring? I guess the confetti was in part because it was the end of the show and not how "great" that song was. BORING, thats all.
  • I liked the performance last night. I thought they were right on. They played the song as it should be. It's a rough crowd in here. Honestly do people think they sucked that bad? It wasn't bad at all, IMO. Would you had perferred Nickelback?

Thanks for the link to Ed and the boys, I remember that.....

I was fine with all the Mary J. songs and glad she won but I was all set with Carrie Underwood. Her first song was good but the rest was too much and then she won an award, just too much all at once. I got the impression that was her final award for winning American Idol. You know part of the overall package, 'here take the prime spot of the show and have 20+ minutes all on you'.....Then there was night long ass kissing to the Dixie Chicks.

I thought the RHCP performance lacked a lot of energy. Maybe it was the song selection. Maybe it was the length of the awards show. Maybe it was that they're not an elite live band. I'm not sure, but I thought their performance was anti-climactic whatever the cause.

As for kissing Dixie Chicks' ass, I thought their new album was one of the five best I listened to last year. Right up there with Modern Times and Pearl Jam. However, I think DCX were rewarded for having survived their rift with Nashville as much as for making a fantastic album. In a sense, I thought it was the Academy's way of validating DCX's politics.

Taking the Long Way is, as I said, a fantastic album. Kudos to the band, Dan Wilson, and Rick Rubin. They turned out some fine work.

For your consideration, thoughts and otherwise...

Grammys were a joke and so are the RHCP...sorry if this steps on anyones toes but they look like over the hill men trying to hold on to the pop world one to many California songs at a time

thank god PJ doesnt do this and stays true to themselves and us as fans...only thing i agree with is when they won their last award they told young kids to start rock bands because we need more of them

Dixie Chicks are overrated!!! and Natalie Maine needs a sausage permanently stuck in her mouth

have a great start to the week all!!!
  • the chili's were and are great. did you want to see more of t.i. and ludacris? fuck off.

I would have much rather seen T.I. do "What You Know" than the Chili Peppers. Or most of the other performances, for that matter.

also i thought the whole show was nothing but a bunch of promtional concerts. where were the awards? i like seeing who was nominated and their acceptance speech. its an award show. running a ticker at the bottom for who won is not the same.

Wow. I couldn't disagree more. The awards part is a bore. Why do I want to sit through people thanking a list of names filled with people I don't know. The performances is where it's at for me personally.

I thought most of the performers were REALLY strong last night...with the exception RHCP. Wow. Was that dull. Like someone said, the confetti was the most exciting part. What's that say about a performance? After all the good performances last night (Mary J can pretty much do whatever she wants at this point & she'll rock my world) I couldn't believe THAT was the finale.

I can't agree more. I've been riding high all day. I love this album. I love Dan Wilson. I'm seeing him in a sold out solo show on Valentine's day and I can't wait. yay minnesota!
We're still making records for people who listen to it all the way through, eyes closed, in that space.

    this heart's on fire
  • I like RHCP, but I totally need to get Stadium Arcadim, it's been out for almost a year. Doh! But no, they are not "better" than Pearl Jam, just different.

They are more radio friendly and have no shame in promoting themselves in a way that PJ just don't want to do. And RHCP have been rewarded for their proactive PR.

I actually thought the chili peppers were pretty fucking great when I saw them back in January. I think Stadium Arcadium is a great album too, but they picked the most poppy tracks for radio hits. I liked their perfiormance last night, though there are much better songs on Stadium Arcadium.

  • Stadium Arcadium is a great album. Anyone who says it is boring or "pop" obviously hasn't listened to it or is just drinking "hater" kool aid. They definitely haven't listened heard songs like Charlie, Hump De Bump, She's Only 18, Torture Me, Warlocks, Especially In Michigan, 21st Century, Readymade, So Much I, Storm In a Teacup, and Turn It Again. Those aren't the only good songs by any means, but all those songs either rock hard, or are very funky.

I thought their performance last night was fine, but I would have preferred if they played a more energetic song. Readymade could have really brought the house down.

that show makes me puke, no disrespect to the chili's ( i love that snow song)

but every year it's the same...

live performance by band X (crowd cheers) next award for such and such category winner band x who were just on stage!!! so stupid

I definitely found myself wondering why on Earth PJ wasn't there, when the Pussycat Dolls were, and My Humps won a Grammy, but I thought it was cool to see a rock band on the show after all the rest of that..stuff...

They should've done Dani CA though. Anthony still sounds and looks fantastic and Flea is awesome.

That show is entirely too long though..3 hrs is sufficient. And the camera work is dreadful, it's like it was done by drunk amateurs

and it was just <SHOCKING> that they won their Grammy too, not an original choice at all.

It was cool about the Dixie Chicks though....

Maybe but their big upset was when they beat Metallica's Black Album back in the early 90's.
  • Anthony still sounds great, but John Frusciante is the reason that album is as good as it is. His guitar playing and vocals.
