I'm horrible at having a constant top band list, as it is ever-changing. Plus it's too easy to pick the obvious heavy-hitters such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, etc.
So for right now, barring those obvious top bands and strictly sticking with only bands (not solo artists), here it is, in no order:
Pinback
Mastodon
The Black Heart Procession
Wilco
Ween
My Morning Jacket
"I wanna believe in the mercy of the world again."
1. Guns N' Roses
2. Pearl Jam
3. Ben Harper
4. Mike Patton ( kinda cheating but I like way too much of his stuff to list one band)
5. Neil Young
6. Will Haven
1. Pearl Jam
2. foo Fighters
3. Radiohead
4. Stone Temple pilots
5. Soundgarden, Alice in chain, Blind Melon, The pixies, nirvana, primus, R.E.M, Smashing Pumpkins, Pink Floyd, Weezer!!
LED ZEPPELIN-BEST BAND EVER
JIMI HENDRIX-BEST GUITARIST EVER
PEARL JAM-BEST LIVE BAND I'VE EVER SEEN
THE WHO-2ND BEST LIVE BAND I'VE SEEN
YES-NOT MANNY LIKE THEM
ROLLING STONES-ANOTHER GREAT LIVE BAND
U 2-JUST A GREAT ORIGINAL BAND
Some others i like :
ALIC IN CHAINS-NEVER GOT TO SEE THEM WITH LAYNE, BUT ARE STILL GOOD
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS-THIS BAND SHOULD'VE NEVER BROKE UP
LIVE-JUST A SOLID ROCK BAND
