  • ok, ok, since i totally fucked up the poll here are the options:

    1. ice cube
    2. queen latifah
    3. gwen stefani
    4. mark mcgrath
    5. other

by sellout i mean at some point the artist had some artistic credability. . .that excludes the brittany spears, madonna's, etc. of the world. . .i realize mark mcgrath is a stretch in that regard

Pretty sure Mark McGrath has absolutely no credibility, should stick to his host job on that Hollywood show.

Anyways, I would have to go with other because there are musicians that I once loved that just really went downhill.

Mark McGrath was a sellout from the beginning..... altho, I do remember being amazed by his musical knowledge on some celebrity edition of Jeopardy. The other two contestants (Edwin McCain was one) had no freakin' chance!!

not bad. . .even the sold out version of aerosmith to me isnt horrible. . .its just not classic aerosmith. . .plus i guess when you get old the urge to stay relevant pulls you towards the mainstream. . .the other artists i listed did so while still young making them more guilty in my book

I don't agree with this I mean sure he is in the political mainstream now and his voice is somewhat smothered by the party line but still he is in a better position than ever to speak out about what he strongly believes in.

But he always sucked and his rediculous dressing up and wearing the make up like he did...... he's always been a sell out, more along the lines of a Brittney Spears than an artist that was at one time valid.

That's ok, I didn't expect that people would agree with me. :)

When you support someone and their ideologies for over 20 years, vote for them when they stand as an independent on a green platform, buy their music, donate to the organizations they support both with time and money, support them and the organizations they stand for, listen to what they have to say, admire them for their activism and support it, it's a pretty big kick in the teeth to have them then completely change their minds and go with a party simply because they think it will get them further, particularly when you know that their choice has effectively silenced them and got them toeing the party line. Try to think how you'd feel if after all this time Eddie joined the Republicans? I think that would probably cover it for me. :)

The only problem with that Zoso, is that apparently what he 'strongly' believes in, is different to what it was when he first became so outspoken on enviromental matters. As the frontman of the Oil's he was well known for his political views. He took on the establishment in a loud and public manner. He was very outspoken on environmental matters; definite in his desire to see a world rid of nuclear armaments. He was loudly critical of US foreign and military policies, even protesting at Pine Gap against the presence of US military operations on Australian soil. He was respected for the message he took to the world.

    Then he crossed the streams.

He joined the establishment he so publicly denounced, became a member of the ALP, was elected to Parliament and yippee now he's the Shadow (Opposition) Minister for Climate Change, Environment & Heritage, Arts.

Soon after, the ALP announces their support of the establishment of a new US military communications installation in Western Australia. Isn't that against everything what he stood for?

How can he abandon, with little compunction, the issues that truly matter to him? Yes, people change their minds, mould and reshape their thinking as they grow older and their role in the world changes, but very rarely do they completely disavow everything they once held to be true.

Unless, of course, they are politicians....

I disagree with Metallica being a sellout, yes they made a mistake with going after Napster and have made some shitty albums of late.
