I fucking laughed my ass off watching the female reporter interviewing him. She obviously didn't like his message. The very end cracks me up. I cant wait to hear this album.

Yeah she didn't seem to want to do the interview at first, but I kinda think she warmed up to him after he explained his thoughts. He is very well spoken, I was impressed with what he said. Not that I agree with the impeachment bit, bwtf.

All this about him being Canadian is insulting. If he has lived here for 40 years he has a right to say whatever he wants. Canada and the US are the same country anyway.

Yeah, this sounds great. The chorus is really well done, doesn't cover Neil up at all, but totally emphasizes the message. It seems to be only the one song now though, it goes silent for me after the song is over.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

living with war came up for me right after "after the garden"...you can still only click for song lyrics...hoping they do the same thing they did with prairie wind, where you could listen to any tune by clicking on it...wow, i really can't get over how nice it is to hear something like this...
  • track # 7 - Let's Impeach the President

Let’s impeach the president for lying
And leading our country into war
Abusing all the power that we gave him
And shipping all our money out the door

He’s the man who hired all the criminals
The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors
And bend the facts to fit with their new stories
Of why we have to send our men to war

Let’s impeach the president for spying
On citizens inside their own homes
Breaking every law in the country
By tapping our computers and telephones

What if Al Qaeda blew up the levees
Would New Orleans have been safer that way
    Sheltered by our government’s protection
Or was someone just not home that day?

    Let’s impeach the president
For hijacking our religion and using it to get elected
    Dividing our country into colors
And still leaving black people neglected

Thank god he’s cracking down on steroids
Since he sold his old baseball team
There’s lot of people looking at big trouble
But of course the president is clean

    Thank God

It looks like it was a Mac issue. The Safari browser I was using would only play the first track. Tried it with Internet Explorer, and I'm now grooving on Living With War. That guitar lead tied in with the trumpet is really cool.

The lyrics on their own were heavy enough, but the album itself, man...

It's working for me in Safari. But I have to have two windows open, rather than two tabs. I couldn't tab out to the lyrics and leave the stream playing.

Man, the two songs I have listened to so far are amazing. I am so proud of Neil Young right now. We need him. And we need others like him. We need Worldwide Suicide. With these, we have hope.
I MET SIR MIKE F'N McCREADY!!!!!!!!

same feeling here...read the lyrics before and liked them, but put to music...proud of neil is a good way to put it!
  • "the restless consumer" will take a couple of listens for me to get into it i think...but still - so raw, raunchy, rockin'!

    don't need...don't need...don't need...don't need no more lies!
  • shock and awe listening to "shock and awe"...this is pure neil...raunchy, raunchy guitar!

    fuckin' rockin' tune!!!

Shock & Awe is my favorite so far, although I'm only up to Let's Impeach the President (which is fantastic, and including the quotes from Bush is brilliant). I really should be going to bed, but theres only 3 more tracks left...

I learned about the Kent State shooting after hearing "Ohio." I wondered what that song was about, and my folks filled me in. I later worked at the newspaper where the photographers who took the famous photo from that day were from at the time.

I can't help but feel like these songs are going to make a difference. If not tomorrow, or next Tuesday, then 10 years from now when a kid eager to learn about the transgressions of the past ventures beyond those guitar riffs and lyrics that pulled him or her in.

I've read about people crying the first time they heard "Ohio." I can understand that now.

This work from Neil is going to be important. His calling and purpose is awesome. He's our voice when we need him. And we need him now more than ever.

    peace

Lookin' for a Leader has a great groove too. This whole album is classic Neil, and to think that we weren't even aware of it two weeks ago.

  • yeah, i like it all so far...shock and awe stands out, as does after the garden and living with war...

families is short and sweet, but a good tune...

flags of freedom could easily be something neil wrote in the sixties...what a tune. i love it!

this record is so far removed from anti-american...it's passionate and you can feel the caring for the troops and the american people. the epitome of an anthem for free speech and true freedom.
