I just didn't put him on a list as I never saw him live, and didn't want to judge based on video and history, only what my own eyes and ears have told me.
Agreed it should be based on front men you have actually seen live.Anything else is speculation based on history.Alter thread a bit?
Top 5 frontmen I have seen live.
Eddie Vedder
Maynard James Keenan
Jack White
Bono
Beck
Top 5 Frontmen/women that I think would have been "tops"
Freddie Mercury
Robert Plant (saw him solo but don't feel that counts )
Jimi Hendrix
Ronnie Van Sant
Janice Joplin
“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”
Fair enough. I have him as number one because, by my logic, if a performer who I've only seen on tv can appear better than all the performers I've seen in person, it's probably a good bet that it would have been Far better if I had actually seen him in person.
Fair comment
“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”
but...based on only concerts i've seen, if i had to pick four more, i'd say:
cornell
iggy pop
dave grohl
billie joe armstrong (go ahead, make fun all you want... )
i've seen jagger and bono, but i'm not putting them on the list. bono irritated me with his blindfold dramatics and well i was too far away to appreciate mick, i guess, since i didn't want to pay $300 for tickets.
1. Gord Downie
2. Jeff Tweedy
3. The Boss
4. Eddie Vedder
5. Bono
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden, Solo)...this guy is so underrated
I couldn't agree more!
I'd say:
1. Neil Young (Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Solo)
2. Zack De La Rocha (Rage Against The Machine)
3. Roger Waters/David Gilmour (Pink Floyd, Solo)
4. Jimi Hendrix
5. Eddie Vedder (yes only on the fifth place)
I don't want to be the fool that's behind me but I am...
wilco is the one band that i LOVE that i haven't seen live. *sigh*
The thing I love about Tweedy is that it's not about being a showman with him. It's more his witty and hilarious stage banter that makes him such a great lead singer/frontman. He'll tell a little story or anecdote in between songs and he really gets the audience in the palm of his hand. It's amazing to watch. He's also the king of shouting down hecklers.

that I have seen in concert:
Eddie Vedder
Bob Dylan
guy from Incubus
guy from Our Lady Peace
guy from Cowboy Mouth
(I don't go to a lot of concerts since it means having to drive a fair distance )
that I think would be best in all of rock history:
Jim Morrison
Eddie Vedder
Robert Plant
Elvis Pressley
Freddie Mercury
I have been reading wondering if/when anyone would say Freddie!
He was the best frontman ever and his voice just can't be described. Really one of the best singers ever.

I've never really seen Hoon live, but I definitely think I would still like the five that I listed better. I don't love Blind Melon as much as you'd think the name suggests, I mainly like the name... it's a really cool name, but the band is also good, so it's like a twofer.

Robert Plant
Eddie Vedder
then there would be so many to name, but here's a couple of my favs that come to mind quickly:
Thom Yorke
Neil Young
He's a brilliant singer and i love Radiohead, but i dont think he has the stage presence as a lot of my other favourite singers.
