Who are your top 5 singers/frontmen in rock history?
For me, a great frontman not only has an awsome and powerful voice, but he can also write songs, good songs, and play something... Or many things. A singer that just sings, and nothing else just doesn't do it for me.

Here we go...

Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave, Solo)
Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Co., The Firm, The Law, Queen, Solo)
John Fogerty (Creedence, Solo)
Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees, Shaw-Blades, Solo)
Pat Monahan (Train)

Finally someone said Morrison! Thank you! But Eddie should be at the top with Jim- if not over him.

Frontman and singer should kind of be 2 separate categories, cause someone like David Lee Roth was (and hopefully will be this fall) a great front man, but will never be accused of being a great "singer". Jagger is the ultimate frontman, a good singer, but not top 5 in terms of vocal capabilities, but clearly at the top when it comes to commanding a stage.

So with that in mind, basing it strictly on performers I've seen live (which eliminates the likes of Morrison, Mercury and other):

    Frontman:
    Jagger
    Springsteen
    Hewson
    Roth
    Daltrey

    Singer:
    Plant
    Meine
    Cornell
    Cherone
    Gillan

    Finally someone who remembers Patton.

    1. Patton
    2. Vedder
    3. De La Rocha
    4. Arno (belgian singer for TC Matic)
    5. Barman (another belgian singer for DEUS)

  • Good joke. Every single list on here should have Jim Morrison.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed with Jim. The part that I liked about the Doors was the musicians. Robby Krieger was my favorite songwriter in the band. I'll give Jim a lot of credit... He wronte some of the most memorable lyrics in rock history, but I just wasn't a big fan.
Nothing against him at all, just not my style.

I just didn't put him on a list as I never saw him live, and didn't want to judge based on video and history, only what my own eyes and ears have told me.

Fair enough. I have him as number one because, by my logic, if a performer who I've only seen on tv can appear better than all the performers I've seen in person, it's probably a good bet that it would have been Far better if I had actually seen him in person.
