My favorite female artist was and always will be the late Mia Zapata, lead singer of The Gits. I had the great fortune to see The Gits live in 91 at The Off Ramp. She absolutely commanded the stage. I couldn't believe the shy , quiet woman I talked with for a few seconds after the show was the same person I'd just seen absofuckinglutely going off on stage. What a voice!
You can hear The Gits and Mia on Frenching The Bully, a compilation of great N.W. punk bands called Bobbing for Pavement, and the posthumous releases Enter The Conquering Chicken ( The Gits were working on this album when, on 7/7/93, Mia was murdered), Seafish Louisville, and Kings and Queens.
The Gits documentary was finally picked up for wide release and and is scheduled to show in Seattle around July 7 ,according to an e-mail I received from the producer and director through the Gits movie my space page.
P.S. Listen to Mia Zapata singing Bessie Smith's "Graveyard Blues". If it doesn't make your hair stand up or give you chills, check your pulse for signs of life. Unbelieveable.

Cat Power isn't actually her band name, it's her stage name so it is accurate to call HER Cat Power

yeah, errr, fuck yeah! She has that kinda Morticia from the Addams Family look which I've always been stung by, dark, mysterious, the come-to-bed eyes, dearie me! Saying that, the voice would be enough.

Fuck no  Morticia might be attractive in a scary way. Hope is just beautiful and her voice... jesus. I agree that it would be enough Let's just say Fade Into You does funny things to me

Hell yeah! Skunk Anansie were awesome, and Skin is just about the best live vocalist I've ever seen.
