1. U2- Molson Centre, Montreal, 2001
The most mind-blowing concert experience of my life. I had been a huge U2 fan since the early 80s and this was my first time seeing them live. The energy in the building was electric, the crowd was insanely LOUD, and the band just flat out rocked.

2. The Tragically Hip- Sasquatch Festival, The Gorge, 2006
Quite simply one of the most brilliant performances I've ever witnessed. These guys made the majority of bands on that bill look like amateurs (with the exception of Gomez and Mr. Ben Harper), and lead singer Gord Downie demonstrated why he's still the best frontman in the biz with his crazy spasmodic dancing and cryptic mid-song monologues. The Shins had the misfortune of having to go on after the Hip, and I kinda felt sorry for them. I don't think any band on earth could have followed that.

3. Rheostatics- Roza Centre, University of Calgary, 1997
These legendary Canadian art-rockers are easily one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time. Their live shows were always brilliant, and this show was no exception. They ended the show by unplugging from their amps, jumping off stage and walking through the crowd singing fan favorite "Legal Age Life at Variety Store". As the song finished, they strolled up the centre aisle and disappeared out the main doors of the theatre. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen a band do. As an added bonus, another one of all-time favorite bands, The Weakerthans, opened the show (they were virtually unknown at the time). So not only did the Rheostatics kick ass, but they also introduced me to some of my future musical obsessions. Sadly they broke up earlier this year with a final gig at Massey Hall in Toronto. Wish I could've been there.

4. Midnight Oil- Race City Speedway, Calgary, 1993
Arguably the most powerful live act of their time. They had a reputation for giving it all and going balls-out every single night, and I was lucky enough to witness it first hand. This particular show was about as close to a life-altering experience as you can get with music. I miss them dearly. Here's hoping for a reunion sometime in the near future. Rock n' roll needs these guys.

5. Wilco- MacEwan Hall, Calgary, 2006.
Is there a better rock band in America right now than Wilco? Many people on this forum would obviously say Pearl Jam, but I wouldn't be surprised if the PJ guys are hangin' out in Seattle as I type this, having a few beers and talking about how fucking incredible Wilco is.

My first time checking out neil and that is really what puts it up there. First time hearing powderfinger and so many other great songs live. not to mention WALK ON i never saw that one coming. then finishing off with mellow my mind. I was so damn happy.

The Mars Volta Tabernacle Atlanta GA 05 (Frances the mute tour)
Holy shit the place was insane. So much energy i loved it. I left soaked with sweat and happiness. They played for two hours straight non stop melting their songs together. (note i've seen them open for RHCP and SOAD and they were no where near as good as on this headlining tour that i saw)

Arcade Fire Variety Playhouse Atlanta GA Jan 05 (funeral tour)
I was amazed how good they were. When they came out in the crowd and played their last song standing right in front of me it was a musical high. The whole band went crazy all night long i loved it.

They played unsung and everybody in the place lost their mind it was so much fun. Not to mention King Buzz throwing down. This was a great show.

I'm surprised to see the White Stripes listed on here and not The Black Keys. I find the Keys to be much more interesting to watch and with a lot more power than the stripes. Just my two cents.
