NIN - seen them a few different times.. all amazing

Tool - same as NIN.. though i think i prefer the Lateralous Tour @ MSG

Les Claypool - LIVING LEGEND! unbelievable what he can do with a bass

    Radiohead - WOW

Chris Cornell - another living legend. totally amazing show at the Beacon Theater. if he had only played Jesus Christ Pose for the entire show, i still would believe i got my money's worth.

Aerosmith - Ottawa 2005. Holy shit, these guys bring it. Opened with Helter Skelter, totally suprised me, wow.
The White Stripes - Ottawa 2007. LOTS of energy, just awesome.
Eric Clapton - Ottawa 2006. With Derek Trucks, he is the man.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Ottawa 2006. Definitley an ON night, as they are inconsistant. Played amazingly though.
Metric - Ottawa 2007- Didn't know a song of theirs before hand, but man, they brought it. Can't WAIT to see them again soon.

    Honourable Mention:
Bob Dylan - Expected it to suck. It didn't. Masters Of War was played. I lost it.
Robert Cray - Saw him open for Clapton, didn't dig him. Saw him at bluesfest and he was brilliant.
Velvet Revolver - First REAL rock show, still the most rowdy.
Australian Pink Floyd Show - I've also seen Roger Waters. These guys did Floyd better than he did.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

The first is absolutely the best, after that order doesn't matter:

    1. AIC - 10/24/89 - opening for a couple of hair bands at the Seattle Paramount Theatre

Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison - 1998 @ the Gorge - had 11th row seats and was high on mushrooms; it was beautiful.

Bruce Springsteen, REM and Bright Eyes - 2004 in Cleveland for VFC

Skid Row - 1991 @ the Tacoma Dome - They were opening for G'n'R and most definitely upstaged them.

Cinderella - 1986 @ Seattle Center Colliseum opening for David Lee Roth - It was my first concert and was one week after my 12th b-day. My best friend and I got right up front against the rail. It was a great introduction to rock concerts.
Walking can be a real trip

    tool - san diego

    rammstein - barcelona

seether - glasgow (very fun night\morning!!)

    creed - D.C.

    metallica - milwaukee
  • Biffy Clyro - My friends lounge in Glasgow - 7th December 2004

They only played for 25 minutes before the Police broke down the door but the intensity of having your one of our favourite bands mere feet away from us as we all sat on sofas, smoked, drank and called out request which were then duly played was such a feeling of intense happiness :)

    Oasis - Manchester Academy - 18th December 1994

Way before they ever set foot in a stadium, this was the end of the Definitely Maybe tour and they were scarily good.

Rage Against The Machine - Glastonbury Festival 1994

They kept us waiting and when they finally arrived wasted no time in laying waste to a field in Somerset. Zack De La Rocha was the ultimate larger than life frontman, guest spots from Tool and L7. I've never feared for my life in a crowd so much and felt utterly exhilerated at the same time.

Manic Street Preachers - Manchester Academy - 27th May 1996

One of the last great Manics shows before they dissapeared into their mediocre maintsream days.

The Flaming Lips - Edinburgh Usher Hall - 9th November 2003

If you see a Flaming Lips show and don't leave feeling that your life is just that bit better then there really is no hope for you.

Top five: Nas, Clutch, The Sword, Sevendust and Black Label Society.

Honourable mention: Chris Cornell, Alice in Chains, Pharoahe Monch, Outkast and Shinedown (the third time I saw them, which was much better than the first two)

Tool did nothing for me. Predictable setlist, boring, and very impersonal.

That very show is on my list too....see three posts above!

Wasn't it absolutely amazing?! We were front row centre on the balcony and the spectacle with all the balloons and everything was incredible :):) A really special night

1 Ocean Colour Scene 17 March Saint Patrick's Day 2001 Olypima Dublin
It was St. Patricks day and I had a few beers before I started to queue. STarted a bit of sing song and got chatting to a few girls. Pulling one of them inside and the band where on top form.

2 Oasis Pairc Ui Chaoimh 1996 Cork
It was the first gig I ever attended . I was fourteen at the time. Oasis were the biggest band in the world and at that time everyone had the Oasis haircut. Bootleg beatles in support and they came on to finish with "I am the walrus".

3 Arctic Monkeys OXegen Festival Kildare 2006
I never seen such a buzz when a band played. the weather was atrocious but the songs and atmosphere sure made up for it.

4 Paul McCartney RDS Dublin I think it was 2004
Not many changes to see my ulimate hero but he put on a great show

5 The Who Cork Showgrounds 2007

The ultimate live band who put on one hell of show. Pity the crowd was that bit old

And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,

    Other than pj:
    In no particular order:
Foo fighters (Buzzfest 98, they headlined and it was amazing. Miss the songs from the first record so much)
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (August 06, He brought Stevie Nicks with him too, GREAT SET!)
The Burden Brothers (Seen them multiple times, but Granada theater in Dallas 2007 is the best. Always been a big fan of Todd Lewis since the Toadies days and Taz Bentley in Rev Horton heat. They git together and jammed, and a kick ass band was born. (They have occasionally played "I come from the water as a treat).
The Moody Blues (Saw these guys at age 12 back in May 96 with the entire Houston Symphony backing them. Absolutely Epic)
The who ( November 2006, Great show, Amazing crowd. I had so much fun watching Pete Play guitar; He was really having a blast).
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Honorable mention: Eric Clapton Feb 2007 (Derreck Trucks rocked on guitar too... I want to see his band now because he was so bad ass!
Peter Frampton- This guy always puts on an amazing show. Seen him twice, just amazing.
Toadies- Saw the reunion shows in both 2006-2007 and it was sooo great to finally hear all those songs live and in fine form.
    PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14
    EV Solo: 7/11/11 11/12/12 11/13/12
  • Great thread! And a tough one.

    Let's see:

--Pete Yorn April 2007 -- anniversary show at White Plains, N.Y. was standing three or four feet away from him
--Aimee Mann & Michael Penn February 2000 -- went on a road trip with a friend for my birthday and got to play roadie for them in Providence, R.I.
--Elliott Smith June 2000 -- amazing show at the Showbox in Seattle
--Squeeze August 2007 -- totally knocked out at the Beacon in NYC

And one of the following but I can't decide which!
Black Crowes at CW Post (March 1993); front row at the Beacon for Richard Thompson (April 1994); Glenn Tilbrook and a guitar for three hours in 2006; another road trip to see and meet Suzanne Vega at the Knitting Factory in L.A. in March 2001; two Soundgarden shows in the overheated NYC Armory (June 1994); seeing Buddy Guy knock my bro's socks off with an ultimate solo right in front of him at Skipper's Smokehouse in Florida (1988); road trip to Jacksonville to see Tori Amos (1998); Foo Fighters at the Fifth annual Buzz Bake Sale and I don't even know which Clapton show to pick from because I've seen him 10 times and he's such a master in-the-moment that they were all spectacular.
  • Well, i never got to see so many of the bands that i would probably be listing here if i had a chance (soundgarden, nirvana, jane's addiction, guns n roses, x, the who in their prime etc...) but these are the ones i have seen and absolutely felt rapture at their shows:

    1. Nine Inch Nails \ Marilyn Manson - Fayetville, NC 1994

when you're 14, young, powerless, and angsty, and you win tickets off the radio, and it's your first rock concert ever ... i wish i had been old enough to really even absorb it all proper, but then it wouldn't have been so magical. both bands were absolutely at the top of their game (yeah, i only like manson's first album. sue me) ... :D

    2. The Meat Puppets @ The Windjammer, Charleston SC 2007

The sheer energy these brothers put out, and the joy that is Cris Kirkwoods recovery and rejuvinated spirit (and bass skills, oh man, what a fucking animal!) - the tiny tiny shithole of a bar that is the windjammer ... the first night, very much a warmup gig, one month before the next date , and yet still on fire. the intimacy, the beer. the laughs. twisting Curt Kirkwoods nipple. ;)

    3. The Pixies @ Meriweather Post Pavillion, Virginia 2005

probably not the greatest Pixies moment, and definately not the greatest seats (hey, i didn't even know they were on tour for fucks sake!) but the overwhelming joy of even getting to see this band on stage, and being able to share with them the awe of having received a gold (yes ONLY gold) record for Surfer Rosa an incredible SEVENTEEN years after its release (holy shit!), and simply getting to watch Charles, Kim, Joey, and Dave do what they do best - crank out infectious song after infectious song ... well, it made my year.

    4. The Kings Of Leon - Rock Werchter - 2007
Stoned on superdank amsterdam herb, drunk on piss stella artois, having fun with the beligian, thanking god we got in to the show having lost my tickets (but getting replacements from the nice ladies at the front gate), ready to finally appreciate this amazing band after being late to join the KoL bandwagon (even having seen them several times open for PJ before this) ... rocking out upfront with a crowd that probably didn't even know what they were saying ... watching eddie do Slow Night, So Long with them ... seriously amazing stuff.

    5. Porno For Pyros - The Masquerade in Atlanta, 1996

So much amazing about this. The people i got to hang out with before hand (who took me to their house and showed me an amazing time, even though i was underage and a silly boy), the always intense perry farrell, getting to meet Steve Perkins and see his smoking hot then-girlfriend, watching perry smoke a joint in the hall backstage but being too much of a puss to say anything, watching with awe as Martina Topley Bird (who i loved for her work with tricky - hear "she makes me wanna die") took the stage for a duet on several songs ... watching Mike Watt absolutely rip up the bass... wow!

well, those are the top 5 ... there are probably a few shows i am totally forgetting about that should make this list, but i'd say that is damn respectable right there.

If i could add an honorable mention it would be:

    6. Dubtribe Sound System - Eleven 50, Atlanta GA - Haloween 2005

Not my first dubtribe show, and not my last (saw them once more at their "final" show @ Cielo, NYC Dec 31 2005 - new years eve) but probably my most memorable from a musical standpoint ... the vibe was incredible, everyone was super "up", no one was trashed on pills, just good love and a little booze ... so many people in amazing costumes for haloween, a sound system that rocked the house, and a "band" that just knows how to make you shake your ass and give in to house and love ... yeah, even my sad ass ... that night i was feeling it so much more than ever. dubtribe always plays "on the floor" on a "stage" about 1 foot off the ground and so we surrounded them dancing and grooving, and even my trick legs seemed to work that night ... getting to hug them both when it ended ...i didn't want it to end, and i am still sad that it has ended. :(
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

yeah it's too bad things ended up as they did i hate to think of all the good music that might have been. funny thing i wasn't even there to see blind melon. i only knew the song no rain and hadn't really listened to the rest of that album. there was so much new good music out that year. but was totally blown away by their live show and went home and wore the hell out of that cd.

I was at the Arcade Fire and Mars Volta shows at the Greek. The Arcade Fire shows there are both in my top 5. That Mars Volta show could easily have been in it. I wish Jon Theodore hadn't left.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Top 5 Aussie acts in no particular order.

STOP THE DROP - Myer Music Bowl Melbourne February 1983 Midnight Oil & INXS headliners. Also included Goanna and Redgum in the line up. Seen Oils hoards of times but this was my first and the most memorable! And of course there was INXS too!

george ~ The Forum, Melbourne August 2002. Got out of hospital on a leave pass for the night to see this concert and had to go in the bloody wheelchair and even with all that going on have to say twas an awesome concert, but when Deborah Conway joined the band and she and Katie sang Man Overboard together :D MY GOD! Was one of THE BEST things I think I've ever seen!

silverchair ~ Fall's Festival December 2000. silverchair, returned to headline Falls after a five year hiatus from the festival and the band had not performed for the entire year during 2000. The line up also included Reef, Calipunks, The Vandals (most notable for the singer getting butt naked and leaping off the stage and running around the audience! :D ) Killing Heidi, The Superjesus, The Avalanches, Magic Dirt, John Butler Trio, Bodyjar, Skulker, Pre_Shrunk, Sunk Loto, 78 Saab, Rocket Science, The Waifs, George, Nitocris, Dallas Crane, Nokturnl and Machine Gun Fellatio. silverchair went off and it was so good to see Daniel well and in top form with the boys! Seen silverchair many, many times but this would have to be my favorite.

john butler trio ~ Big Day Out January 2001. One of the best sets I've seen of a band anywhere! The atmosphere was electric! We were all packed into one of the smaller staging areas and the crowd just went off! The vibe was truly amazing! You could feel the love in the air!

tism ~ Big Day Out January 1999. These guys are just so brilliant and at BDO 99 they showed us just how brilliant! Loved it!

Honorable mentions to Machine Gun Fellatio and Grinspoon as the warm up acts for KISS May 2004. That was certainly worth the ticket price to see all three of them in one night! :D And MGF and the Grinners were awesome!

Top 5 International acts in no particular order.

Marilyn Manson ~ Big Day Out January 1999. Just rocked the joint! First time I'd seen them and it was just amazing!

tool ~ Melbourne RLA July 2001. Was quite the experience and exceeded my wildest expectations and more besides! I'd waited such a long time to see them and they didn't disappoint!

Soundgarden ~ Big Day Out January 1997 What's to say? I got to see them live once in my life and I can die happy knowing that now!

    U2 ~ Under Australian Skies Tour September 1984 S & E Centre.
My first time seeing an International act! And one of my greatest concert experiences ever!!! I've seen them since but that first concert.......:)

Glen Campbell ~ December 1989 Melbourne Concert Hall. Yeah, I know it looks odd amongst this other lot but this was a free ticket I got and went on the spur of the moment with a friend. Grew up with Glen Campbell on in the house all the time and was just thinking it was a good opportunity for a bit of a night out. He was fabulous! The consumate showman! Loved him and was particularly thrilled when he pulled out all The Beach Boys numbers!

And of course all of these concerts pale in comparison to PJ. :)
    NOPE!!!

    *~You're IT Bert!~*

    Hold on to the thread
    The currents will shift
  • Add 311 to my list tonight in Irvine....that show was just insane. I love when people get that into an act. 311 definately has some hardcore PJ-ish fans. I love that. This might be my new #2 live act right now.
