i have to disagree, RHCP are one of the best acts around. I don't care much for dani california, but its too early to pas judgment on stadium arcadium. Flea=one of the best bass players ever
  • i agree with one of the earlier posters. their work in the 80's(mainly freaky styley and mother's milk) was amazing. they were very much underated then. after one hot minute and into califonication they started changing, but they still had some old sound in them. by the way sucked. it was nothing like the crazy metal-funk they used to play. i could listen to some songs but not with the same feeling and enthusiasm. dani california sounds a litle to fit the-mtv mold type, but i think they will bring more funk back into this album...hopefully
    im awesome

Exactly....sometimes music can just be about fun and thats what RHCP do. I don't like to analyze every lyric of every band I listen to because heaven forbid music can just be there to make you smile. John and Flea arent " pretty good"...they're incredible musicians who create an unmistakeable sound. RHCP have their own unique sound and have had it for years. As far as people who complain about them abandoning their early sound they just matured is all. I don't want to see guys in their late 30's early 40's now dressed up like lightbulbs and wearing socks on their cocks. Sir Psycho Sexy for example is a song they don't need to be writing anymore because it doesn't fit with where they're at. People often confuse maturity with "selling out" and if they're friendly with MTV I don't care. I don't even watch MTV so there image or whatever doesn't matter to me. And if you don't like them because they're too mainstream that is just absurd. Maybe they have a large fanbase because a lot of people just think they're good. That kind of pretentious thinking confuses me because I'm willing to bet if they were a band existing in obscurity they would get more love. Anyway 2 more weeks until Stadium comes out and I'll be buying it the first day.

Sorry, got throw in the disagreement here. They are certainly a different animal than pearl jam and appear to have fully embraced rockstardom, but they are a blast, and great at what they do. And I have loved their music since before Blood Sugar days. I like those wild dudes and their antics. I like Anthony jumping around like a maniac. I love watching John so engrossed in guitar. Flea is just cool organic Flea. And Chad Smith most certainly does not suck. And they are positive toward women in their songs - raunchy often, even elegantly so, but just about always positive. Fun concert too. Am eagerly awaiting their onsale dates coming very soon.

I couldn't pass this up....so that sounds pretty much like most people say about PJ? Just because RHCP has had a couple of less successful albums shouldn't mean much to a PJ fan???

  • California, California, California!! does this guy have nothing else to sing about. RHCP use to be awesome, different, original back in the 80's...long before "Under the Bridge" that was their turning point into suck bad.
looking up...wondering if there is anything that you cannot do....

They are over rated, I like their stuff but they are honestly not worth the massive hype they've received over the years. Anthony Keidis can't actually sing, so it's admirable that he's the front man of a band that's been so sucessful. A lot of bands are over rated though, such as Creed, Busted and other shit like that...

i wouldn't really say less sucessful. Musically they have peaked as far as there writing . IMO. After one hot minute there stuff has bored me.

I totally agree. Anthony K. really can't sing but the rest of the group is brilliant. I like them but I have no clue why everybody is raving about them. Dani California is just above average. I quite like it but it's surely far away from being really good.

Who else thinks this band is overated? I used to be fan but then I realized there was nothing that special about them. Flea is great at bass and john is pretty good on guitar but that is about it. They have some good songs but overall i think there sell outs and overated. P.S. Chad Smith sucks

what makes them overrated? im just curious. i mean, i like some of their music and i would probably go see them live. why overrated?

    Esther's here and she's sick?

OK when you go to a school where the whole in crowd loves a band that is not that good and you have to hear about them every single day and there the most popular thing at school YES i do hate them and dont want to hear anymore about them when kids whose favorite band is fall out boy and then they hear dani california and all of the sudden there the most amazing band. Then i see them on cd usa(sellouts) and mtv. That pisses me off

  • you do have a little of a point there.but just because they get a lot of attention doesnt mean they are sellouts or that they suck. the only album i didnt like was By The Way, which i agree with some people, strayed too far off their regular crazy funk or rock stuff. the old stuff from blood sugar sex magik and back is amazing. i like the new stuff, but i admit its mostly different from what they started out doing. anthony cant sing that great, but his voice is amazing. and i agree all the way with culot4 by saying that trends dont last for 20 years, since they started in 1983. another thing that bothers me is where i agree with you grunge. fucking dickwads that listen to "MTV" bands like hawthorn heights all of a sudden like RHCP when they come out with a new song, then forget it in a couple months. they know NOTHING of the bands earlier albums. i gave me friend mother's milk and freaky styley and he said he didnt like it all. that pisses me off. i kinda go in a lot of directions when i talk
    im awesome

  • I agree they are badly overated, this new single sounds like any other song they have put out. I think they are a classic case of a very good band fronted by a very ordinary singer.

Have we lost our hope to sorrow?

    Where did we go wrong?

well Anthony's not Ed, certainly, in terms of born vocal ability, but he is right for the RHCP; I'm used to that nasal voice singing Chili Pepper songs - it suits their band. And RHCP are a band that is definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

The guitarist of the band, JF, is one of the the best artist, guitarist, philosopher... I put him up there with Eddie...I think frusciante's solo work, all, of it speaks to people like no other music, his debut album, "niandrales and usually just a t-shirt" is one of the greatest ablums of all time... he did this when he was working on the RCHP's best album, blood sugar sex magic, but you can tell he was in such a different zone artistically, but at the same time he could kick out funky shit too... I guess when you listen to his solo stuff you can see why he started to hate anthony, and the chili pepper's style... but I love the RHCPs because they introduced the world to two amazing musicians, Flea and John Frusciante...
Do I eat them?.. raw or well done?...Do I trick them...? I don't think they're dumb...
