let me tell u a little story about tool.

they booked a show at an arena in a city in the upper midwest. the venue only held about 8000. it sold out in about 4 hours. every single music fan in the area was excited and anticipated an awesome show. Well, about a month before the show, tool cancelled. Not because of illness or anything like that, they got offered more MONEY to play a festival in toronto on the same day.

Whether tool was in good taste or not (and they werent) by doing, i just thought id let you in on this story about how they really appreciate their fans.

Fuck, the show was in IA, where maynards from

    Ouch....when was this?
I may have been at that show?...lol...if it was the same one we are both talking about...great show !...lol
sucks for the people there in IA though...

I actually love it when a band is capable of performing their music live like they recorded it. Don't really care if they jump around the stage like crazy f++kers or hide in the dark! Some people need to stand still to be able to master their instrument and don't feel the need to point out people in the audience or make jokes between songs to feel better.

Anyway if you want to see a good rock concert go to see a band like Tool or another band that matches your musical taste. If you want to be entertained go to a Comedy Club or go see a Blockbuster Movie.
  • come on you hate tool thats fine, but sit here and dismantle what makes them, than they would need a new name.
Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.

yeah but some have it mastered while flying around like a harmless little fuck. who should we respect more? someone who stands in the dark and sings songs he rehearsed for 3 months before a tour, or the guy who stands proud with his band willing to play/sing anything in the catalogue. Not to mention, Maynard cant even play the guitar. What a rock star.. Maynards my hero. i wish i could be just like him. ......................................im gonna puke

yeah i read it and i dont care. listen to the song. listen to the words.

ive been listening to TOOL for so many years and i never attribute high ideals to them, not when to comes to commercialism and selling out. that way im never disappointed. i mean jesus can you imagine having to try and second guess the thoughts and logic behind a band's decisions? that shit could drive you nuts. you can sit there ansd say they based a decision based on economics but you dont know cause you weren't there. you werent the decision. to me TOOL can never sell out.

we respect what means the most to us. be that a guy who stands in the shadows and lets the music speak for itself or the guy who gets the crowd off with ripping solos in the spotlight. who gives a shit, so long as the music is top notch? :)

playful fashion? if its the video i remember its not playful. the one im refering to, maynard takes the advantage of the oppurtunity to whoop one of the "tools" at his concert.

whether you like tool or not, i like ur sense of humor. i dont mean to come off as douche bag. i just think tool gets too much credit. i can understand why people like them but personally i have a problem with there ethics. more so than there music.

I guess when u compare everything to pearl jam, ethicly anyway, its hard for anyone to compete.\\

Another thing is, Ed never joined another band. Maynard has proven he lacks loyalty. TO his band and his fans

    what
so the same could be said for gossard and ament

the problem with these arguments is you either like them or you dont, tool is talented, they have a sound, they have shown longevity and are good live.

the difference is stone and jeff's other band werent famous before they ever released a tune. Maynard joined a superband which was APC. tell me again who was in it? Oh yeah, two people from Nine inch nail, someone from the pumpkins and someone who played with Marylin Manson. Jeff and Stones situations with there bands aren't even comparable.

oh man you just don't get it.
APC is billy howerdel's band. they wanted a chick singer. they couldnt find one that satisfied them so they got maynard. it has nothing whatsoever to do with loyalty. do you think adam jones lacks loyalty cause he does other shit. or even danny carey cause he's in pigmy love circus? i dont even know what justin gets up to in his down time. oh thats right i think i read somewhere he has a bookshop, somehwere. this focus on maynard is not fair.
the fault lies with you for comparing everything to pearl jam. and thinking you are in total understanding of the various members ethics. you are putting pearl jam on an impossible pedestal.
who cares if TOOL get too much credit. what the fuck does that mean anyway? i listen to bands cause i like what im hearing and for no other reason.
and sure i admit not everyone gets TOOL and that's okay. all i care about is that i get them.

    why?

    cuz im bored.

the resination of my beef is unclear to me, however, i can speculate.

i am a diehard pj fan. half of my friends are just like me. We deify them.

The other half of my friends deify Tool. THere is a constant friendly rivalry between us about the bands we claim loyalty to.

Despite the battle, we respect eachothers music tastes.

The only things is, the "tools" keep paying to see pj, but the "jammers" know better than to pay to see tool again.

whether u listen to other's opinions on tunes or not, you have to respect others opinions. I started this thread as a discussion about tool. I dont mind it turning into a comparison of the two bands. We're both on this forum and thread so obviously we have common ground in the notion that we both can appreciate PJ. Also, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that I atleast respect Tool enough to start a fucking thread about them.

Not to sound like im complimenting Tool, but there are few other bands whose fans can keep up an argument comparing their faithful to PJ.

the guy jumped on stage and wanted to give him a hug, thats wierd. Did it ever occur to you he PUSHED the fan during the song PUSHIT? Im sure that had something to do with it. Its not like eddie is an angel either. cough cough mosquito bites...cough. Sure eddie probably would hug a guy if he jumped on stage, i mean he lets the fans drink his own wine, but he is an asshole sometimes.

  • Umm......no. Pearl Jam concerts are about diversity, a connection with the fans, and just hearing a flat out real american rock band give it their all every night. hmm lets see what PJ would be like live if they listened to tool...

    tonights setlist:

    Alive
    Evenflow
    Daughter
    Betterman
    Corduroy
    (skips no code)
    DTE
(skips riot act and binaural but plays a shitload off their new album)
    Life wasted
    WWS
    Severed Hand
    Comatose
    Gone

    Encore
    LAST KISS!!!!!!!!!!

    BRAVO! great show folks!

Way to twist what I was saying..

Never did I say that Pearl Jam should learn from Tool's show. Both of them are at the top of their game.

2 Different monsters. Can't be compared. Only thing they have in common is they are both music.

Tool and Pearl Jam are my 2 favorite bands, side by side to eachother. Yet they are 2 seperate entities entirely. They both touch me in different ways.

With that said, there is nothing in the world like a Pearl Jam show.

I said Pearl Jam should take a lesson from Tool on what a WORLD TOUR is. Pearl Jam did a half-assed North American tour in 06, a few weeks in Europe, and a quick jaunt through Austrailia.

First off, i think the band would be a lot better off w/o Maynard.
Nah. Let's see... Maynard is the lyricist and singer for a band whose most common complaint made against them is that their music is boring. Take away the vocals and what do you have? An 8 minute riff that you could have sworn you'd heard before.

Tool haters are worse than the fans that they despise so much. You don't like them. Big deal. Why would you need to post a thread about it?

Do you like Tool? Just interested. :)

Yep. Don't listen to them much these days but they were my favourite band a couple of years ago :) I used to be MASSIVELY into them.
