I just want to say for my first post in this thread that Insomnia is a fucking amazing song."I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0

Loel was a fucking MONSTER on the drums.. half the time I was like 'How the fuck is he doing that??? And why can't I???' Amazing.'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

You're not wrong my friend. Now go and get familiar with the rest of the catalogue.
Oh yeah... and where were you tonight? SIX QUID!!
Set list:
Miasmal Smoke and the Yellow-Bellied Freaks
Archaeologist
Dead Letter and the Infinite Yes
Weighty Ghost
Murderer
Search Party
Encyclopedia
Oblivion
*
Danse Macabre
The crowd were there to see Wintersleep, which was fantastic; I wasn't sure if they had fans over here, turns out they have quite the following. And they were pretty surprised themselves. They fed off it. One of the most energetic bands I have ever seen, perhaps the most, despite having a tiny stage.
Sarah and I came through the disabled access doors to find ourselves on the front row.Which means that we were able to heckle the guys (in a good way) and secure our first place in the queue for signing cds and shaking hands with Paul, the lead singer.
They were such awesome, unassuming and humble people; they make music because they love it and I heard it straight from the horse's mouth, they're not into being famous: they're 'quite happy as they are'.
By the way, they really, really, really played the fuck out of the songs. I mean really. Intense.'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

yes, i think restlesssoul posted a link to our little thread over on the Wintersleep board.
I'm not sure if the boys have read it... i kinda hope that they haven't, because i think at one point way back in the beginning i posted a review where I said i wanted to "eat Paul Murphy for breakfast"...
i'm sure he knows i meant that in a completely platonic way...
ps. welcome back mookie.it's good to have our official halifax "insider" back!

Fucking Hell..... What A GIG!
The guys were really tight, and amazingly intense and OMG did they ROCK!!
They were completely overwhelmed and more than a little surprised at the love in the room
When they came back on for the encore, we asked them for songs off the other albums and Paul was genuinely amazed that there were 'fans' in the audience.
They rocked the place hard and the songs were all so much harder and grittier than the album versions.
I got the chance to meet the guys after the gig and met Paul and got my cd signed *swoon*I was completely starstruck, but they were so easy to talk to and so unassuming and friendly, they made it easy.
We asked him when they were gonna release 'Night Sky' over here and hit the big time and he said 'Well, y'know we kinda like it the way it is'.
I hope we made enough of an impression on them to bring them back round these parts soon
p.s. It was great to meet you CarrieA human being that was given to fly.

I watch this message board like a hawk because it has led me to so many new bands, and Wintersleep seems to be a name that gets tossed around a lot here. I've listened to some of their songs on Myspace and they sound pretty amazing.
I understand they've released three albums so far? Age old question, which album should I get first?0 -

My girlfriend and I are both obsessed with them. We went to see them last night in London and they were touring their latest, Welcome to the Night Sky; that's her favourite. My personal favourite is the second one, Untitled. They're all brilliant though, you'll not be disappointed by any of them. Perhaps you could get Welcome to the Night Sky and work backwards?'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. i don't know how much of an "insider" i am anymore...they are all over the world now! at least i will always have my memories of a dark and dank hailfax bar and the sounds of the infant wintersleep filling up "months of mondays".
...imagine "orca" or "caliber" being cranked out on a tiny stage with about 20 people in your basement...adding some cement floors, smoke, a bar, and some dank (you have to have the dank!) for ambience. that'll rustle up the neighbours.

Insanely short set, but the guys hanging around afterwards more than made up for that.
Loel is a genius, Paul was amazing and the rest of the guys just rocked out.
Btw, this is completely irrelevant, but Paul is sooo much taller and much better looking in real life. And such a genuinely nice guy.
And you don't get to be jealous just yetWe need them to come back a few times first.

you've convinced me...
i'm going to rip up the subfloor in my basement, not run the dehumidifier all summer, buy a pack of smokes and a few cases of beer, and invite Wintersleep over.
you have to come and tend bar.~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~0
