All 3 are amazing bands, but in my opinion the best out of the 3 is Soundgarden.

Love all three bands, and Nirvana was probably what I was most into back when it was all happening in late '91, but Soundgarden was always my favorite, if only because of Cornell's awesome voice, and the fact the Badmotorfinger just fuckin' blew me outta the water (got the cassette of that AND Nevermind on the same day in Nov. '91- what a fuckin 1-2 punch that was to the senses)... AIC always rocked too, matter of fact I got Facelift in my CD player here at work as we speak, er ah, type. Just picked it up at Best Buy this weekend, along with the '96 self titled CD (with the 3 legged dog on it)... Haven't had either one of those in a few years (all my CD's got ripped off in 2003, haven't replaced all of 'em yet)... Facelift is easily my fav AIC album, just fucking awesome music going all over the place... Ultimately it's extremely difficult to pick who's my fave of the three, but looking back now, 15 years later, I'd have to go with: 1) Soundgarden, 2) AIC, and 3) Nirvana.. But hell, that could change next week..

I choose all three. I wouldn't want to just take one and not have the other two, but if I did have to choose only one it would be Nirvana.

Gotta be Alice, all the way. I find the early Soundgarden records a bit hard to listen to, Nirvana i've always found to be highly overrated. Loving the new Alice stuff too so they'll get my vote here. :)

Soundgarden are easily my favourite of the three, then AIC, then Nirvana last.

All 3 are way behind Screaming Trees though, and nowhere near PJ!

Probably Alice In Chains. Soundgarden never did it for me, and Nirvana was always too punk for my liking. I've always loved AIC a lot.

Although, lately, I've been listening to a lot of Nirvana. Nevermind might be one of those albums that is as good as it is made out to be...it's been playing constantly for a week or two.

  • I would have to go with Soundgarden, if you're only referencing the "Big 4." However, the fact that the Screaming Trees are often overlooked should be punishable by law. ;)
  • Soundgarden

Although Alice In Chains makes it hard to pick against them with songs like "Don't Follow" and "Got me Wrong"

    Both bands kick major ass.
  • I started this thread over 3 years ago. I'm still going with Nirvana as my favorite. But I've gotten way into Soundgarden over the past few years and I totally dig them more than Alice in Chains anymore.

  • Its gotta be Alice in Chains. Judging on what Ive heard from the new album, it wont be a dissapointment at all. They had such a great sound. Layne on vocals and just that dark and heavy sound, nothing can compare.

Tough call, as I really like all 3 of them. Based on the fact that I absolutely love CC's voice, I'm gonna have have to go with Soundgarden though. Between AIC and Nirvana, I'm probably gonna say AIC, but then again it really only depends on what mood I'm in.

Edit: Just noticed that this thread is more than 3 years old... Way to go!

Soundgarden for me...Badmotorfinger still rocks me to my bones everytime I listen to it. It's such a raw and powerful record. They truly captured a certain sound on that album.

true, but I think aic edges them out for me. maybe it's because aic was my first love before pearl jam. screaming trees are probably second, with nirvana a close third. i never was huge on soundgarden.

AIC. Nirvana are great, especially In Utero, but a lot of their stuff has been overplayed. Alice are just right though. So many classics and I love the new songs that have been released. Have no time for Soundgarden. Cornell really grates on my ears. I know that will be seen as satan talking here, but it's just my opinion
