well they used to be a little better than StAnger....

    Metallica have gone seriously downhill.

    ehh

They're lyrics have always been really I don't how to put it-- grammatically tortured(???) Like they were written someone who spoke english as a second language. Off the top of my head I wanna say that this was much less of a problem of St. Anger.

They are working with Rick Ruben on the album coming out this year and it is supposed to be the come back album.

I do find it annoying when bands take 5 years to put out a band. hopefully pj will come out with a new one sooner then it took for "pearl jam" to come out.

Lol...AC/DC just finished recording their first album in 8 years!! Incidentally, the album is being produced by Brendan O'Brian. I'm interested to hear how it turns out.

  • Hopefully the new CD (St. Angrier?) will be a return to form for Metallica. I can't take another Load, Re-Load era.

I've heard that the album has a sound that's more similar to the 80's style Metallica. Rick Rubin asked them to try to get thier heads into a similar space that they were in during Master of Puppets and Justice for All. According to Kirk Hammet, there are LOTS of guitar solos. He said that one song has so many time changes that it sounds like one long solo.

Metallica is absolutely fantastic live. Be prepared for a severe rocking. When they play For Whom the Bell Tolls, you can feel it in your bones.

Wherever I May Roam and Sad But True are also fucking incredible live along with One and the above mentioned, it was 1999 when I saw them and I remember these performances as if it were yesterday.:)

no offense, but anybody that says "And Justice For All" kinda sucks should really not be taken seriously in a discussion about Metallica. the black album was great. and the high points on "Master of Puppets" were equal to "..Justice", but there were some dead spots. "Load" and "Re-Load" by some unknown band would've been good. but coming from Metallica, they were sacreligious. "St Anger" was flat out unlistenable.

but seriously, there's not one dead spot or filler song on Justice. one the greatest albums ever made, by far......

ps. yes, Lars is a douche. but the above are 7 of the greatest songs ever recorded.
  • I have a good feeling that the new Metallica album will be amazing, due to the fact they have a bassist 50x better then Jason Newsted. And theyre working with Rick Rubin.
    6/22/08 DC
  • wouldn't bother me. They ran out of ways to go chu-chu-chu years ago. The last album was sad. Especially how Lars kept using that one stupid drum - bonnnng.

  • Just noticing some of the arguments in the RHCP thread and thought alot of them could easily apply to Metallica....

The Black album was released in 1991, they havent done much of any worth since....

To think Pearl Jam have had their whole career in that time too.....

load and relaod were very successfull, I dont like them but pertaining to this conversation those albums were on par for just about every pj album after vs.
So done is a stretch, they have a whole album done now.
Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.

There are plenty of weak spots on Justice. Shortest Straw, Blackened, One, and are couple others are good. The instrumental is terrible and the rest are forgettable. The album is just a weaker version of Ride /Puppets. No wonder they felt they had to overhaul their sound.

I agree, anything after 'Load' is shite and that was tenuous....

I agree. They have fucked up everything ever since and their egos suck big balls as well.

I loved *JUSCTICE* and my favorite had to be *Eye Of The Beholder* then *Shortest Straw* then *ONE*. Those were the days headbanging with a stiff neck. A very underated album due to the poor recording of that record.

fucking awesome is how they are live. Those songs are just..... Metalica. They will always be good live. The show I saw is the only one I ever snuck into. Cool experience, sneaking into the arena. And Metalica was Metalica, so it rocked. I'm sure you won't be dissappointed.

I guess I don't see how St. Anger is that bad. I mean it's no masterpiece, but it's miles a head of the Loads.

Difference is, this album will be a return to their 1980s sound. They didn't say that about St. Anger.

They sure as shit did. They declared the St Anger album a return to their roots....I heard Lars say that himself during an interview before it was released.

  • They have been done for a long time now.

Couldn't agree more... I have tix for Pinkpop in The Netherlands, where M. will perform : I think I check out the way cool bands that play at the exact time they perform - I hope it will be a nice atmosphere there.

I remember Kirk saying that the band would be going in a "new direction" on St. Anger, but he never said that there would be a return to form. I must not have read the interview that you read because all I read was that the band was supposedly "progressing" when in reality they were regressing.

Sorry if this post was a little incoherent.........I'm on my seventh bottle right about now.

cross between the 2, they said they were going back to their angry heavy writing, which they did, they than said their chords and sound were going to differ.
the album failed becasue it was produced horribly and james has been fucked up since the fire.
    The band is not done.

  • Honestly by the standards in this thread, every band in the world except for the bands that open for pj are done. Its like every band should quit becasue they are not pj, and do not stand for the same thing.Well when reading this thread everyone in here hates every band that trys to be like pj and look up to them. They hate every metal band becasxue the singers are abusive, they hate pop music, they hate old classic singers that are washed up. Dave mathews sucks, their fans suck, i hear people slicing up the chilli pepers, ripping neil young.

So where exactly do pj fit in. These are their peers, its the bussinness they choose to operate in. Do you really think they hate these bands. No fucking way, its called balance. Without metal bands and pop bands pj would get stale.
I would take metalica anyday over creed, or posers that try to be pj. At least these bands keep pumping out music to compare to whether you like tghe music or not it sets the standard for what we like as individuals.

You need individualism in music, like it or not.

okay enlightener we are so retarted that we are coming out of left field
    what was st anger
    pop
even with load they used metal chords. it was more balance rock but is stil metal, whe you got to a concert they play heavy metal, christ they toured master of pupets for like 40 dates last year
its amazing how people write their own stories to these endings

    and decades would be 2
so lets go 20 years back to 1988, gee they were touring and justice for all, prob the greatest metal album ever, than they toured black for 4 years
I guess dont tread on me is classic rock.

Now call me stupid and dumb and wrong like everyone else in this part of the forum.

It seems like in this other music forum we fake music, we make everyhting revolve around pearl jam.

I just dont get it, I dont even listen to much metalica, but it was a big part of my youth and a big band in philly, I cant forget their history just to patronize pearl jam.

btw, this is supposedly one of the new songs.....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pS5rODQ2ao&feature=related

I like it. Hetfield's vocals have gone down, but that is probably something that can be fixed in the studio for the album at least. imo, it is a lot better than anything off Load/ReLoad/St Anger. doubt I would put it on the same level as anything on Puppets/Justice/Black Album though, but there is some killer riffing in there. I'm not a fan of that "machine gun" double bass drum death metal drumming that douchebag is doing though.

I HATED St Anger. I could not listen to it all the way through. and the thing is, the songs may actually have been good, but the production is awful. I don't know anything about drumming, but there is definitely something wrong with the drums on the St Anger album.

I'd say Master is the better Metal album than Justice.

Black album isn't metal IMO, more like hard rock, which is how I'd classify all their albums after Justice.

the Black Album is absolutely "metal" in every sense of the word. it is just not "thrash metal" as their previous albums had been. but since they pretty much invented "thrash metal", I could it would be if that's what they called it.
