It is the only new CC song that will wind up in my collection and no, I'm not paying for it.

Only amongst the debris of the tragicomedy that is Chris Cornell's current musical career could that song be considered worthy of note, but I suppose it is somewhat better than the other leaked tracks.

Your article is really good though. I very much enjoyed reading it. The whole "let's complain about how shit Cornell has been since he stopped making rock music (let's hope no one mentions that he's been shit for 10 years anyway)" thing has been done to death but your article was well-written and lacking the kind of hysteria that makes me sometimes think that some Cornell fans deserve his artistic mishaps :D

    Or, was it Eomer?

    Awesome reference and, sadly, true.
  • You fools. Cornell can, and will, make music how he wants too. He has never made the same album twice. Never will. He still is the greatest rock singer. Have you heard him live lately ?
  • Have you heard him live lately ?

No, not really, he's been lip synching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkJNBBBQHgs
“Life is life everywhere. Life is in ourselves and not outside us. There will be men beside me, and the important thing is to be a man among men and to remain a man always, whatever the misfortunes, not to despair and not to fall - that is the aim of life, that is its purpose.”

I hope youre right, then it wont follow the movies and do a Scream II.
  • ok i cant sit through that whole video to get to Cornell, how does it prove that he is lip synching ?

This song isnt bad either , real bluesy feel.

    I really hate timbaland.

That was completely listenable. So much so that I almost wish that the entirety of "Scream" would consist of music in a similar vein. I'd take a blues record over a vapid mesh of pseudo-hip hop and rock any day.

Anything would be better than "Long Gone", et al.

Nice work. That sums up everything that needs to be said. And I'll say again, "Two Drink Minimum" is the best song he has written since EM

Best since EM??? IDK, I'd have to think about that. Several AS songs were great works of rock, like #1 Zero, Getaway Car, Shadow on the Sun, and many more. Two Drink Minimum better than #1 Zero - I don't know about that.

Adding: it is a great song that gives us hope for future paths that Cornell may take.

The sad thing is that Long Gone is probably the "best" of the 5 full leaked songs i listened to the other night.

  • I thought his new album was going to be nothing but electronic pop? This song sounds pretty good.

Wow, I like this and hate everything else from the album [that I have heard]. Guess that's why it's a hidden track.
  • eyedclaareyedclaar Posts: 6,980
It might be the 1st album in history where 99% of the people prefer the hidden track over everything else...

  • lol. I can't believe a blogger called "Johnny Firecloud" is criticizing someone for being artistically illegit.

But anyhoots....the song sounds pretty good to me, and I haven't liked ANYTHING he's put out in a looooong time (and yea, that includes the Audioslave stuff!)

Thank you :) I shouldn't be this happy ... but ... he can still make songs I would want to listen to.

    Thank you!!!

It has guitar and everything :p
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

Hey champ, do me a favor and find me a single shred of proof that anything I've ever done hasn't been artistically legit. Here's a few places you can look:

Antiquiet.com - my music/new media site. pet project. interviews. reviews.
    CraveOnline.com - my day job
JohnnyFirecloud.com - my outlet for inspiration and aggravation.

    Dig away, fucker.

Your blog is dumb. I agree that the Scream/Timbaland songs are dissapointing, but to say that Two Drink Minimum is the best we've heard but "that isn't saying much" is stupid. I think Two Drink Minimum is absolutely amazing, especially considering it sounds like he put it together on a whim. It does make me sad that he is doing this Scream shit when he can probably come out with an equivalent to "Two Drink Minimum" on a daily basis, but that doesn't make me discount it.

And his site was shut down because it got reconstructed, not due to he "blizzard of unfavorable reception to the new material".

I've been as critical as CC as anyone, but I would have liked this thread to have been praise for how awesome Two Drink Minimum is and not another hate thread.

Yeah, because we all know that differing opinions are the greatest threats to society as we know it  People are entitled to express disappointment with Cornell's output if they wish. If you think Two Drink Mininum is "absolutely amazing", that's your opinion. The rest of us are allowed to make up out own minds, including the OP.

  • I think this "hidden song" is really great and the vocals are superb. I'm happy to see that there still may be hope for this man.

This song sounds like it was recorded after Timbaland had left for the day.....

This is s great song yet I can't help feeling a little sad when I listen to it

Thank you for articulating the denotation of the term "opinion". You could have saved some time, though, and just provided a link to Webster's dictionary or wikipedia.

My point was that probably 99.9% of people on this board would OPINE that the hidden track is a vast, vast improvement from his Timbaland collaborations. And so I don't see the need to try to turn this into another "CC hate thread" when those pop up probably twice a week.

The blog was just a bland summary of what you'd see in any anti-CC thread on this board. Mid life crisis, why doesn't he just buy a sports car, blah blah blah.

Of course, I don't mean to put any opinions in anybody's mouth.

Seemed like a pretty fair and balanced, not to mention well-written appraisal when I read it actually, and far from being as bland as the usual anti-Cornell crap posted around here, so I guess we have two differing takes on the matter. I'm pretty sure that's the basis of a message board. Thread sustained then, no?

I'm also just not getting these sort of statements. I mean as another guy mentioned there was a lot of great material from Audioslave that was not too disimiliar to music Soundgarden wrote. I also read in another thread someone saying that CC hadn't produced anything good since 1994?!!!! -that includes DOTU, Audioslave and EM.

These people seem to be either incredibly casual listners of CC's back catalogue or there is more motivating their Cornell bashing than simply the fact he released an album they don't approve of.
