Anyone else think Into The Wild is a far better record than Avocado?

Eddie's voice has so much more warmth and clarity on Into The Wild.....

I don't find it to be a fair comparison.
And no, I don't think it is a better album.
And Ed's voice on Pearl Jam is not meant to exude warmth. It is a pissed off album and when he is singing, he is pissed. (for the most part)
It is a social commentary. And it isn't looking good, dig?

Vedder's songwriting went up for a few notches for Into The Wild...I know for Pearl Jam its gotta be more aggressive in some ways, but I think we'll see Vedder at the top of his game for the next album. Like when he was penning such classics as..Corduroy, Off He Goes, MFC, Wishlist, I Am Mine, Insignificance, RVM etc etc.

As for ITW being a better album, you can't really compare, but got to say S/T has really not aged that well...

Just annoying that for a social commentary its hard to hear what he's actually saying...

not at all, both great albums in their own right,

ones a rock album by a group

    the other is a solo

if you asked which one is enjoyed more fair comment but better.....nope both awesome for me....

Personally, I enjoy Avocado much more. I do like ITW very much, especially Setting Forth, No Ceiling, Guaranteed, Hard Sun..

Totally different emotions going on in each, though

I can't even imagine anyone comparing the two...

Just isn't possible, like others have stated, its PJ vs. a solo album....

    This is borderline crazy talk...

You can like one more than the other, but comparing them is just silly : )

Not sure why, but I haven't listened to ITW more than 3 times through, where as I've listened to Avacado DOZENS of times...

It almost sounds like Ed smoked 6 packs of butts, consecutively, before he recorded the album...

You guys need to take it easy on Avacado, its much better than most of you give it credit for...

That's really funny, cause I thought the same exact thing when I first listened to that record. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, but Ed definatly wasn't stretching the vocals far on that one...though I do believe that may have been very intentional on his part.

    Yes, I agree 100%.

It is also better than Binnaural and Riot Act.
  • I think ITW is way better. I have both albums in my car. I try and listen to Avocado but I can never get through the whole cd bc I think its terrible. I give a try a couple times a week but I can't get into it...so then I pop ITW in until the next try.

It isn't a fair comparison because Eddie didn't have a band on Into the Wild. At least Avocado had the entire band, and some definite rockers. On the other hand, Eddie's singing and writing on Into the Wild is the strongest it's been on an album since Binaural if not Yield. I thought he underperformed on most songs on Riot Act (especially Thumbing My Way where he sounded half asleep) and on Avocado I thought he sounded strained, but maybe that's what he was going for on that album. For Into the Wild, his lyrics were inspiring and his voice sounded passionate and PRETTY. Ed's voice is the most major instrument in Pearl Jam. He let it shine on Into the Wild throughout the album, and I hope he continues to let it shine on the new record.

NO..they both are great for different reasons. You can't compare ITW to Avocado since the band didn't play on ITW. AVOCADO kicked some serious ass.

The two works are as different as night and day- how can you possibly rate them against each other?

Lame thread. How can you compare these two albums? Two completely different pieces of work.

we shall duel to the death to defend thy honor that is binaural and Riot Act, and considering u spelt it wrong, i dont believe you have properly given Binaural a chance ;) ..I really like Into the Wild... but its also a bit sad. Its a very adult side of vedward. It is very intimate and alot of it reminds me of being older and eds extremely raspy vocals sets that very tone for the entire album. I almost believe its an album ahead of his "time".

Why can't you compare? They are both music albums. Just because one is harder than the other doesn't matter. When you select a favourite album of the year do you only compare it to other albums of the same sort?

They are comprable and ITW is far, far better. Avacado is a redundant and predictable album.

I don't even class Into The Wild as an album - it's more a collection of demo's and ideas that don't quite work without the images to back them up. I loved the movie and the songs fit the scenes like old shoes but no songs come close to Army Reserve or Marker In The Sand for sounding like, well, proper songs (apart from maybe Society which wasn't penned by Ed)

I know it's not cool around these parts to say but I think Pearl Jam is a better album than Riot Act and even maybe Binaural (although the latter has some exceptional songs, it also had some real low points too)
