I don't even class Into The Wild as an album - it's more a collection of demo's and ideas that don't quite work without the images to back them up. I loved the movie and the songs fit the scenes like old shoes but no songs come close to Army Reserve or Marker In The Sand for sounding like, well, proper songs (apart from maybe Society which wasn't penned by Ed)
I know it's not cool around these parts to say but I think Pearl Jam is a better album than Riot Act and even maybe Binaural (although the latter has some exceptional songs, it also had some real low points too)

I really can't see how anyone can look at ITW as anything but exactly how you decribed it....
I like both albums, but they aren't really comparable. One's hard rock, the other's basically folk oriented. You may prefer one type of music to the other, but that doesn't make one type of music better than the other. There are times when separate, but basically equal does work.
