why do people try to force things on themselves? I dont like sushi, I knew the first time i tried it and starting dry-heaving that i didnt like it, but i dont keep going back to the don's sushi hut.0 -
bdgavin wrote:It isn't a fair comparison because Eddie didn't have a band on Into the Wild. At least Avocado had the entire band, and some definite rockers. On the other hand, Eddie's singing and writing on Into the Wild is the strongest it's been on an album since Binaural if not Yield. I thought he underperformed on most songs on Riot Act (especially Thumbing My Way where he sounded half asleep) and on Avocado I thought he sounded strained, but maybe that's what he was going for on that album. For Into the Wild, his lyrics were inspiring and his voice sounded passionate and PRETTY. Ed's voice is the most major instrument in Pearl Jam. He let it shine on Into the Wild throughout the album, and I hope he continues to let it shine on the new record.
I totally agree on everything you said.0 -
Lame thread. How can you compare these two albums? Two completely different pieces of work.
:rolleyes:I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.0 -
yahamita wrote:NO..they both are great for different reasons. You can't compare ITW to Avocado since the band didn't play on ITW. AVOCADO kicked some serious ass.
I agree with this.
The comparison is silly. Apples and Oranges.########################

It is also better than Binnaural and Riot Act.
we shall duel to the death to defend thy honor that is binaural and Riot Act, and considering u spelt it wrong, i dont believe you have properly given Binaural a chance
..I really like Into the Wild... but its also a bit sad. Its a very adult side of vedward. It is very intimate and alot of it reminds me of being older and eds extremely raspy vocals sets that very tone for the entire album. I almost believe its an album ahead of his "time". 0 -
I can't compare!!"You're the eve of my destruction in the garden of fears"0

Why can't you compare? They are both music albums. Just because one is harder than the other doesn't matter. When you select a favourite album of the year do you only compare it to other albums of the same sort?
They are comprable and ITW is far, far better. Avacado is a redundant and predictable album.0 -
No.I can get you a toe by three o'clock...0

I don't even class Into The Wild as an album - it's more a collection of demo's and ideas that don't quite work without the images to back them up. I loved the movie and the songs fit the scenes like old shoes but no songs come close to Army Reserve or Marker In The Sand for sounding like, well, proper songs (apart from maybe Society which wasn't penned by Ed)
I know it's not cool around these parts to say but I think Pearl Jam is a better album than Riot Act and even maybe Binaural (although the latter has some exceptional songs, it also had some real low points too)0 -

I couldn't have put it better myself...you've hit it on the head sir...
I really can't see how anyone can look at ITW as anything but exactly how you decribed it....

I like both albums, but they aren't really comparable. One's hard rock, the other's basically folk oriented. You may prefer one type of music to the other, but that doesn't make one type of music better than the other. There are times when separate, but basically equal does work.0
