Black Crowes

Anyone dig 'em? I saw them at the H.O.R.D.E tour ages ago, great show. They are playing at the Landmark here in Syracuse in September and I'm trying to decide whether or not to go. It's a mid week show, so it will disrupt my sleep schedule (yes, I'm a creature of habit). My hubby won't go with me, he's not too much into the concert scene - even PJ! I can round up a few friends but I'm still uncertain....

Do I or don't I? Not too many good bands come to the 'Cuse. I do enjoy the Black Crowes, they put on a kick ass show and the music is great IMO.

I think Blues Travelers should bring back H.O.R.D.E! What fun!

    i just saw them live and they were good, but last year i saw them at a smaller, more intimate venue and it was amazing. so i felt dissapointed yet still liked the show. if you like their rare songs definitly go because they play a couple a nite.

    "She Talks to Angels" is a classic.

    I like them as they do have a very "stonesy" sound to them. But their live show drags to me at times because I just cannot get into the extended jams watching Robinson jump around like a dental patient just coming out of anesthesia from impacted wisdom teeth removal.
    There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.

    haha...I was feeling pretty drunk when I had that done.

    had to sit down and take it easy for ten minutes after stumbling out of the office.

    I did go to see the Drive-By Truckers open for these guys in Saratoga...
    Didn't stay for their whole set - my sister had to go to work the next day.

    BC are a damn good rock band, and if you love a good rock show, go. It's worth it - to get that feeling whenever you can.

    Saw them many moons ago...

    On the first UK tour in a small venue, then opening at Donington and then on the Southern Harmony tour in Newcastle, great band!! ;):D

    Would love to see them again, are they playing UK?

    I just saw them a few weeks ago at a relatively small venue and it was awesome. I highly reccommend seeing them. It is a long show though, they played almost three hours. I personally think thats a good thing, but since it's a week night, it might be an issue.

    One of my favorite bands. I had Lions, By Your Side, and Shake Your Moneymaker on repeat yesterday. I finally saw them this summer. It was in what you could tell a "stop-over" venue (they had a couple of big shows at the Fillmore I believe the next day) so you could tell they were kinda on autopilot. It was still a really awesome show though. They did so many of my favorites I couldn't believe it. Rich even sang a version of "Hide Your Love Away." I couldn't believe how good of a voice he has! They also threw in an awesome new song they haven't been playing that much. Probably as a thank you for those of us who made it to the concert at venue out in the middle of fucking nowhere.

    Anyway, if you like them but haven't heard Lions, you should check it out. Everyone talks about them being Stonesy (while you can hear the influence, I never though they were THAT Stonesy), this album sounds differnet. It is full of Led Zeppelin! A lot of Jimmy Page style riffs.

    I have seen them 3 times in the last year. I saw them open for Petty last July I believe, then at the Ryman here in Nashville, and about a month ago. The Ryman show was one of the best rock shows I have ever seen. The Ryman is a great venue to see a show. That tour they were playing 2 sets and playing for 3 hours. This past tour they are playing 2 hours and jamming on alot of songs. Very different shows but both were great. I recommend going and seeing them.
    I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room.

    So I'm definately going to go. The Landmark is a small venue so it should be a kickass show. From what I can tell, there is no opening act. Looking forward to it!

    I've seen them twice, both times in smaller venues.

    first time was in Salina, KS on the southern harmony tour which I believe was fall of '92. The Jayhawks opened up. Small arena (about 6k seats). We sat on folding chairs on the floor. Actually we stood on the chairs and fell off a couple of times dancing around. Still the best show I've ever been to by any band. I was still just in high school, but I remember being floored by that show. The stage setting was very low key - just a bunch of rugs and a curtain made up of white Xmas lights. A lot of bands do that low key type of thing now, but back then it was something very different.

    Second time was in St. Louis, MO in an old relatively small theater downtown somewhere. I believe it was called the American theatre. Anyone here know it? Great venue. Just a beautiful old theater. This was right after By Your Side came out, so what was that... '99 or so? Sat in the front row of the balcony. Not quite as good as that first show but they were still great.

    Wish I could have seen one of the acoustic shows Chris & Rich did together this past year. I did get my fix watching the Fillmore show on one of the HD networks. Pissed my wife off turning it up so loud. That was a hell of show in and of itself.

    If there isn`t an opening act scheduled....................you should be in for a real treat................"An Evening With The Black Crowes"...........late last year & all of this year`s shows without opening acts have been 3 hours..........too bad more people don`t know about thise awesome band, them & Pearl jam are the best live bands going.

    Snagged a copy of Lost Crowes before recalled from stores due to artwork/labelling defects. Pretty damn sweet especially the Tall sessions!!

    Just to let anyone who didn't know, wierd old Ed is no longer in the band, they are having a replacement keyboardist for the upcoming tour. They are saying health/personal reasons are why he is out.

    Just saw them last month. They are awesome live! The first 2 times I had seen them, it was in a small venue and they just tore it up. The show this year I saw was at a bigger place and was very good. They sound great. Dont expect a greatest hits show, because you wont get it. The show I just saw was 14 songs stretched over 2 hrs. A lot of jamming and 3 covers. They play different set lists every night.
    I was very lucky and had a chance to meet the band briefly before the show. See my sig. :)

    never seen em' live but I dig em'. always liked Hard to Handle and She Talks to Angels. sadly, those are the only two I know.

    I heard they rock out live, but they charge waaaaaaaaaay too much for their tickets. $43 + all the bullshit fees? Are you kidding me?

    I paid $28 (lawn seats) at an amphitheater and around $30 to $40 in the past for intimate club shows. Seems pretty reasonable to me for a band that puts on as good a show as they do. Arent PJ tix for this tour in the $50 range?

    ^^^ Lawn seats for this summer's Black Crowes, Robert Randolph, Drive-By Truckers concert were only $18. But alas, that show was cancelled and I was only refunded for the ticket price (and not the additional fees, which were almost as much). That definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.

    $43 is a bit out of my price range (even for the Black Crowes in an "intimate" setting); there is only one band I would pay more than $40 to see, and I'll let you guess who that is. :) It'll be interesting to see how many people do shell out $50 (including misc. fees) for this one, and what % of the 1,700-seat auditorium is filled. The Darien Lake show (along with three others) was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, even though the band attributed it to "technical issues."

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my brother, who attends the university at which the concert will be held, can secure free (or reduced-price) tix.

    the crowes are one of the best live acts out there right now. as mentioned before, they change the setlists every night. a wide variety of originals and covers. lead guitarist, Marc Ford fucking smokes. very underrated. the band is as tight as ever. i've been a fan since the very beginning,probably attended about 30 shows, and i've never seen em better than they are right now.
    the "LOST CROWES" comes out 9/26. two previously unreleased albums that are truly outstanding. in addition, a dvd, "WHO KILLED THAT BIRD ON YOUR WINDOW SILL" will be released. BUY THESE DISCS !!!!!

    I think H.O.R.D.E festival should come back too!!!

    As for the Black Crowes I just saw them a month ago and back in May and I really had a good time! They are still great live and do a good mix of covers too! I say go the seats are pretty cheap and it'll be a great show!

    I think I saw them about 10 years ago. That was in Paradiso Amsterdam. Great show and atmosphere. The bass player almost finished a hole botlle of "Jack Daniels" and lots of coke. Still don't understand how he made till the end of the show.

    I saw them a couple years back at the Tabernacle here in Atlanta, it was amazing.

    Always a great show. Four or five times seen them over the years. One of my favorite all time shows was them with Jimmy Page at Milwaukee Summerfest.
