Does anyone mind posting the bonus tracks for the album? I received my copy in the mail today (pre-order through newburycomics.com), but I guess the U.S. release does not get any bonus tracks. Anyway, appreciate it if someone can help me out.

You said the new ones lack quality and depth.........maybe you are right, but I think he is only treating his life at the moment, what he is feeling, he do express it in his songs! Now he is maybe happy and he make the lyrics to this, its the story to his life now!! In the past he was down and addictive and he wrote dark lyrics!!!

But he isn't singing about himself is he? He's singing about women leaving their husbands for other women, and "no such thing as nothing" and other such insightful gems. He's always had such a good way of painting images with his words, and a lot of the new songs don't do that at all.

This is probably the biggest problem with the album for me. I like most of the songs, but there's nothing as vivid as Limo Wreck or Burden in My Hand on there. Or, for that matter, anything as visceral as Let Me Drown or No Attention.

(I still like the album though.:D)

Yeah, I mean it's perfectly listenable, but dammit, I want an album that's gonna fucking slay me. Any band can write catchy songs, it's that gritty edge that I love about him, and it's just not shining through on Carry On.
  • yay I'm getting this album tomorrow!! :D

I can't wait to hear Finally Forever. I'm hearing that song is amazing.

I'm listening to Chris on Rockline right now and he said he sang it for his wife at their wedding...and I think they've been married 3-4 years now (awww).

And it´s trough him I found Pearl Jam. I noticed that he had done some project called Temple of the Dog and here I am. I´m a new one here and I admit that I haven´t got so much time to comment these topics. This one pulled my interest. I think it´s really mean to attack on Mo. I don´t think that she means any harm, she is just entousiastic like I am too.

And about the album... it´s awesome. The first time I listened to it, I didn´t understand all the songs, but that´s Cornell´s music. You have to give time. Every song gets better and now I love them all. The album is hot. I love it. It´s different from his previous work but I don´t mind; I like the experimenting.

So let´s not argue here because of some missunderstandings and beliefs. Please!

Okay, I sincerely apologize in advance for the following outburst, but it needs to be said:

I looked at your profile. Every single one of your posts on this board have been about Chris Cornell and his new album. Seriously, enough already. We don't need people from the CC Street Team coming in here and hyping the album up to be the greatest thing since sliced bread to get us to listen to it. The Chris Cornell fans on here were listening to Carry On anyway, and the non-Chris Cornell fans will never listen to it because of the constant talk about him on this board, which they find heavily annoying.

What I'm saying is, if you're going to be active in threads other than those with Chris Cornell in them, then by all means stay and have fun. But no one is benefiting from the spam from you and your friends on the damn street team.

And stop with the damn exclamation points already. All your posts are pretty much like this: "OMG Chris Cornell is the greatest person who ever lived on the planet and Carry On is the best album ever produced by anyone in the universe!! Hey everyone buy Chris Cornell's new record because maybe if I post enough spam in enough places I might have the slightest chance of POSSIBLY shaking the hand of CHRIS CORNELL!! Then my life would be complete and I'd go home and listen to Dandelion over and over and over again!!"

Damn. If I were any lesser of a Chris Cornell fan I would totally hate the man by now.

I dont know whats your problem!!

If you are so clever like you do and have a look at my profile, then you have to noticed that I´m new here on the board and I only have 23 posts here, so I dont know how you suggest that I´m a street team member?? Far from it!!

I give you the advice to have a look to this thread, this one gives me the impression that this is mass advertising:

    http://forums.pearljam.com/showthread.php?t=246023&page=2

    but not what I do!!

I really like PJ too, thats why I´m here, but this was the first thread that jumped in my eye and I had an interesting conversation with facepollution!! If there is a new entry I only have to give an answer to this, this is what I call a disscussion or a conversation, but this is not to advertise somebody!! This is a wide difference for me!

I´ll also go to other threads, but this one was interesting, so I stucked here!! Plus, that I´m still enthusiastic after a really brilliant show I´ve seen of him, and I only wanna talk about my impressions after that!

But I dont think that I have to justify myself, thats what threads are for, to talk to other people!

Welcome back to another episode of the long-running series Chris Cornell: What Happened? Last time, we learned that it took only one Rage Against the Machine reunion gig to turn Audioslave's whole existence into a Van Hagar joke. Now, we tune in to the tasteful pop songs Cornell is singing (and of course songwriting) on Carry On. Shrieking to Kim Thayil's guitar, Cornell was an instrument of awesome. (Listened to Superunknown lately? Even better than you remember. "My Wave," holy crap.) But his talent is for mindless wailing, hitting money notes in the high-grunge style, and he has no knack at all for the subtle sound he's trying now. Groaning "Billie Jean" or ponderous originals like "Scar on the Sky," he's nothing without the dumb grunge overkill he's been trying to put behind him since Soundgarden broke up. Hair? Short. Shirt? On. What happened?
    NERDS!
  • 1. The whole street team thing is silly, he has sold over 20million records, its not like he needs one.
    2. People are stuck in the past. Its not Soundgarden, totd or Audioslave, or even EM. Its a NEW record.
    3. A lot of musicians in his position would rehash and cheapen their past achievements, Cornell has not done so (yet)
    4. If you dont like carry on, dont listen to it.
5.If you do like carry on, accept that other people might not.

I like carry on, I think there are a lot of good songs and a few great songs on there..there are some songs im not overly keen on, big deal. (though i have to confess they are growing on me)

Lyrically, I think he's less oblique because hes off drugs, in interviews he's been talking about how sobriety on stage has enabled him to connect to the songs and is consequently singing them better live, new or old. If he's connecting to the new material more, it would make sense that it was written from a sober standpoint, explaining why songs like 4th of July would never happen again. And they shouldnt have to because its already happened. Carry on...he's moving on. And for the record, Disappearing act is beautiful lyrically, as is killing birds.

i have to say though, whatever you think of the new record, still see him live, man's in form of his life right now.

You´re so right. Why would he do the same kind of music all the time. Thinking is allowed. If you don´t like his new album, ok, if you like Soundgarden, listen to that then. People like different kind of things.

Yeah, I've got the UK version... It's pretty good. The worst CD of his career but hey I wasn't expecting much. That said, it IS better than I had expected.

    *waves* Hi Mike!! :D

Trust you to say that ;)

I've not heard anything from it yet actually, am hoping to get the CD for my birthday.

Why do people always assume that if you don't like 'Carry On,' it must mean you wish he was back to doing his heavy Soundgarden stuff?
  • Just got the CD today, though I've been listening to the tracks online for a couple days now. I like the CD. I think there are some great songs, and others I don't like as much. I tend to like his slower songs, especially the bluesy ones and I don't agree with the Rolling Stone post that said he's got no knack for those kinds of songs. Anyway, as some people have said already some people will love it, some people will hate it, some people will be somewhere in between and some people won't care. I'm glad I got it and I'm sure at least a few songs will remain in my regular playlist after the newness fades.

because the criticism of carry on tends to be in most instances summed up by: its not as good as em, its a little bit better than audioslave but not as good as whne he was in soundgarden.

and quite frankly, thats a pointless road to go down. Chris is somewhat burdened by his legacy in the respect that he has a lot to live up to. the thing is, i dont see it like that anymore coz neither does he.

With this new cd CC wouldn´t have won American Idol
    You can´t trust a vegetarian.
  • sorry.

what the fuck are you on about?

american idol? cornell? no connection there. he'd outsing all the fuckers on it and writes all his own material.

people are getting ridiculous now. if you dont like carry on, fair enough, why bother insulting the guy?

I don't get all the Chris bashing on this thread.
I agree with Argeliz. Mo seems very enthusiastic for Chris. She's not hurting anyone. She's participating in a topic about Chris' new album. We shouldn't attack her. After all, she's not going off topic.
She also admitted she had trouble expressing herself because of her language. I have parents that were born in Europe. English is a hard language to learn and write (in their minds). They've always asked me for help in spelling and how to say a word or phrase correctly.

Anyway, to add my two cents about "Carry On"..
I've been anxiously awaiting Chris' new album since I heard about it a few months ago. I do love the song "You Know My Name". It really sounds great in the movie "Casino Royale". I love how they introduced the song after that kick ass chase scene. Killer! It didn't matter to me if this song was or was not added to the new album because I bought the single last year.

I pre-ordered the UK version of "Carry On" so I could get the 2 bonus tracks. It does take a few listens to get use to the new sound but I still like it.
I like a few new songs that I heard live in concert this past Memorial day weekend. In particular, I like "Scar on the Sky" on acoustic better than the studio cut. I also was very skeptical about his remake of MJ's "Billie Jean". I was blown away by the live performance. I literally got chills. Pretty spooky. Chris never gave me chills before (never from a Soundgarden or EM tour). Pleasantly surprised. lol

If you listen to every Soundgarden album, each is very different than the next. And I did skip over some songs that I didn't like. It didn't happen too often, but I admit I did do this.
I like the musicians he's touring with. It would be interesting to hear them go into the studio with Chris when he's ready to write and record his next album.
I'll stick around..... regardless what everyone says about his new album.
I do not think Chris is god. Never did. He is a human being just like the rest of us.
I do recommend fans should see him live in concert. He totally comes alive and his voice sounds amazing.

being a devoted fan of the man I always enjoy reading others positive opinions of CC. Yeah, see him with this amazing band LIVE and HOPE he records his next album WITH them!!! They have gelled so well and have such fun performing......
3 weeks from today will be my 2nd (and hopefully NOT last) time seeing him on this tour......and I hear you about him giving chills. He also makes my eyes fill up man, he NEVER did that to me before.........to me, to see someone who was close to the brink of NOT being anything anymore, well, it's just amazing to see what sheer will and determination will do for you. What it did for him...........what it can do for any of us........in that, he's inspiring.....
