Willie Nelson is such a bad-ass on guitar! He gets a lot of respect as a country music legend, but I feel he never gets his due as an amazing guitarist. He has his own, unique style and feel. The man transcends musical genres. He's almost his own genre. As a guitar player, he is one of my very, very favorites.

Also, I feel you never hear enough about Brian Setzer. He is so good, and has been for a while.

I don't think Robby Kreiger gets enough respect either.

    I second Alain Johannes.

Alex Lifeson is usually overshadowed by Lee and Peart.

Al Jourgenson is better than many people think.

    Doug Martsch is awesome.

    Adam Jones.

Mick Mars is better than people give him credit for.

Not really a lead guitar player but really created his own lane when he played - Michael Hedges. I saw him live about 10 times -- the consummate musician and entertainer. Listen to his version of Zappa's Sofa No. 1...or just about anything else he ever recorded.

    Adrian Belew!
One of the best, and you've heard him and maybe not have known it.

    He played with Frank Zappa,
Talking Heads, "Remain in Light" and on tour with them,
    David Bowie, Peter Gabriel etc

    Lately, NIN Downward spiral.

He and Robert Fripp playing together in King Crimson are out of this world!

A busy man he is: http://www.adrianbelew.net/discografy.html#producer/performer

    Also,
Pat Martino is an amazing jazz guitarist. Also John Scofield. They're two more of my favorites

I've always really loved Ross Childress from Collective Soul. When he was their lead he always played with so much energy and his style is AWESOME!!! Their new lead guitarist Joel Kosche is pretty good too. He has some really good slide work on their new album.

And yes, I second Alex Lifeson!!! Next to Mike McCready I'd say he's the best guitar player around.

    Some very wiggy Guitar performances.

    David Torn
    - with Bill Bruford, Mick Karn and Mark Isham, Chico State late '80s

    Al Dimeola
    - when he found a midi guitar, best "trumpet" solo I've ever heard

    Robert Fripp
    - Sure King Crimson, but with David Sylvian, sheee-it -- and his League of Crafty Guitarist (?) wiggy show

    Alex Lifeson
    - who cares about the guitar in La Via Strangiato, HIS RANTS!!!!! WHOA!

    Leo Kottke
    - each and every time, he blows me away

    Ace Frehley
-prior to his short reunion, wanna say mid-90s, saw him in a 300 person club in Sacto (Boardwalk) after 4 opening acts, he came out at about 12:30 a.m. to Detroit Rock City -- loudest freakin thing I've EVER witnessed.

    Jerry Garcia
    -c'mon

Ya ya, Iommi, Blackmore, Gilmore, Van Halen, Townsend, Page, Clapton, Beck, BB King, JT, MSG, SMB, uh Hendrix?

One of my fav guitar songs is still Funk #49 -- James Gang.
i wanna hear McCready/PJ do dat soooo bad.
New Favs - John Butler Trio, Jack Johnson, Damien Rice

and in case there's any doubt about their cred, give another listen to The Beatles "Hey Bulldog" and "She Said"
    [sic] happens

    Larry LaLonde - Primus

As a guitar player Billy Corgan is so fucking criminally underated.

He has a big ego for a reason - heis very very talented, you dont even have to like any of his stuff to appreciate how musically gifted this man is.

I was listening to welcome to sky valley the other day and god those riffs are massive.

The one that comes in and the lead singer starts out with "Don't try to take me AWAY"
It might be gardenia or super scoop not sure i get the names confused, but that riff just kicks my ass every time.
