If you look at the maps, Westwood Village (where the pre-party is) is right next to the UCLA campus. It's where students live and chill. Anyone can walk from the pre-party to the venue, back to the bar, etc.

Too bad the court where John Wooden created his legacy... where Lew Alcindor, Bill Walton, Gail Goodrich, Sydney Wickes and Walt Hazzard played... is going to be covered with seats and a stage. UCLA is a dry campus, so most events don't offer beer sales....even their football games at the rosebowl are dry, so they charge a lot for food to make up for the lost beer revenue.
I think the dry campus/no beer sales thing only applies to NCAA sporting events, they require that. So, hopefully with it being a completely unrelated event they will indeed sell beer. Someone in the office here swears they sell beer at non-NCAA events... of course, if they do -- how much it will cost is anyone's guess!
But $6 bucks for a pint is a good deal in LA... sad but true.
