Only with our eyes closed can we truly see

That is a technical term, for those who were wondering.

There are a lot of 1/2-back and 3/4-back 1x12" cabs, too... didn't see any Theile cabs, but there were a bunch last week. Keep watching. Might be harder to find something in Canada...
I still put a good word in for the Peavey 1x12" cabs with the closed-back and the Sheffield speaker.
I miss you already, I miss you all day
No, it affects the electrical efficiency of the system. If you match the resistance (measured in ohms) of the amp AND cabinet, you have ideal efficiency. If the cab has more resistance than the amp (higher ohms) then the amp will have to work harder, but will be okay (unless you are really cranking it up). If the speaker cab is lower resistance than the amp, then it's like putting water in a bucket with a buncha holes... the amp can't keep up with what the cabinet is drawing, and *poof!* black smoke... RIP, Mr. Amp.
Some folks out there will tell you there is a minimal tonal difference between the same speakers of different ohmages... but it's hardly worth thinking about. Negligable. I've heard that some Celestions are made differently, like the 8-ohm versions are made in Britain, but the 16-ohm versions are made in Asia, but I'm not really clear on that... those might make a difference in tone, though.
it might even be worth looking at traynors new stuff. their amps are tanks so i'd imagine the cabinets are pretty good too. speaker upgrades can always be made.
it might be more cost-effective.

you want closed for your sound. more focused, tighter sound. Go with a closed back if you only have one option.

go to the link and scroll down the amplifier demo's until you can see the sample of the music clips with the Shiva head and five different speaker types....the sound difference between cabs is unbelievably noticable. I gotta say from these that I like the greenback sound the best....you?
probably the first speaker I fell in love with.
Greenbacks are a very low-wattage speaker, and tend to distort easily (called "break-up" in speaker terms). A lot of people really like it when the speaker starts flubbing a little, gives a fuzzy, round edge to the distortion. They're built like a tank, so you don't really have to worry about damaging them, but they won't last as long as a higher-wattage speaker if you're pushing it all the time. Still, they've got at least 8-10 years worth of playing the ever-loving crap out of 'em.
I personally prefer to get power-amp overdrive, so I need a good, clean, high-wattage speaker to give me the clearest version of what the power tubes are putting out. Other people prefer preamp overdrive/distortion, and who knows what kind of speakers are right for them.
It all comes down to preference... the next step up in wattage from a Greenback is a Vintage 30, which still exhibits some break-up, but will be cleaner than a Greenback. If you really like a Greenback, then Mesa probably isn't your flavor... they have really high-wattage speakers (70-100 watts apiece) that are really clean and clear.
Weber has a lot of great speakers, and their site is fun to surf through (if you wanna learn about speakers)...
