Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly appointed tenant advocate called to “seize private property” and blasted homeownership as a “weapon of white supremacy” in a series of pro-Communist social media posts.

Cea Weaver, Mamdani’s new director of the city Office to Protect Tenants, made the statements and urged her followers to elect more Communists in several lecturing posts on her now-deleted X account that were unearthed by internet sleuths.

“Seize private property!” she said on June 13, 2018.

She later doubled down on that in a mini-manifesto in August 2019.

“Private property including any kind of ESPECIALLY homeownership is a weapon of white supremacy,” she said then.

Weaver also pushed to “Elect more communists” in December 2017 — when a Harlem street corner was being renamed in honor of former Manhattan Rep. Vito Marcantonio, who was a Communist.

Can’t wait! Internet sleuths and the big reveal! Geraldo is that you? Oh wait, it can’t be, you’ve been deported! Hahahahahaha!

Do let us know when private property is seized, will ya? Because right now? People are being seized, including 2 and 5 year olds, but you’re not bothered in the least, you dem, you.

Oh, be a love, and do check in when NYC collapses like Seattle, will ya?

jist as I see it, private citizen makes statements on sm.

then is hired in a city admin. one theory says ,  said citizen will work to implement the executives policies with legislative buy in of course.

another says mayor and staff rule by fiat.

Oh, the outrage! Impeach him now!

For a New Winter Coat, New York’s Mayor Consulted His Wife

As he dealt with a major snowstorm, Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared in a personalized Carhartt jacket designed with help from the first lady.

As the first major snowstorm of his administration approached New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani needed to coordinate a citywide agency response.

He also wanted to find a new coat — one that was unassuming and modest, but still able to distinguish him while he addressed New Yorkers during the storm.

As married men dressing for important occasions often do, Mr. Mamdani sought the help of his wife, and of her staff. They chose the coat — a jet-black quilted “Full Swing Caldwell” jacket from the American workwear brand Carhartt — and tapped a local embroiderer to personalize it with a throwback city logo, said Noah Neary, a senior adviser to the first lady, Rama Duwaji.

“The mayor is hoping to chart a new course,” Mr. Neary, 36, said in an interview. “I think he felt that it also made sense to speak a visual language that felt slightly new.”

It calls into question the mental health of Joe Biden and reminds us of the national turmoil around Obama's tan suit.

There’s no truth to the rumour that all calls to city hall will be answered by AI and you’ll be put on hold and have to listen to “thinking” repeated until you’re given an answer.

Mamdani Hires Groundbreaking Computer Scientist as Chief Tech Officer

Lisa Gelobter, whose work helped shape the modern web, was also on the launch team at Hulu.

During his rapid rise, Mayor Zohran Mamdani showcased his mastery of social media, turning the medium into a political agent of mass reach and vowing to use technology to fuel his plans for New York City.

On Tuesday, the mayor will announce that he has lured someone with far more technological heft to join his administration: Lisa Gelobter, a computer scientist who helped shape the modern web by leading the team that developed the animation technology used to create GIFs.

Ms. Gelobter, an entrepreneur, was also on the launch team for the streaming service Hulu and founded tEQuitable, a company that uses technology to make workplaces more equitable.

As the chief technology officer and commissioner of the Office of Technology and Innovation, she will oversee cybersecurity, data management and the city’s technology infrastructure, and she will aim to improve digital access to essential services for New Yorkers.

“I’m deeply honored to be appointed by Mayor Mamdani at a moment when technology is reshaping nearly every aspect of civic life,” Ms. Gelobter said in a statement. “Technology impacts how people experience government every day, from accessing services to trusting that systems work fairly and responsibly.”

At 34 years old, Mr. Mamdani is New York City’s first digitally native mayor, and he has continued to embrace social media to communicate with the public.

The appointment of Ms. Gelobter adds to Mr. Mamdani’s short but growing list of marquee hires, which includes Lina Khan, the former head of the Federal Trade Commission, to lead his transition; Jessica Tisch, whom he retained as police commissioner; and Julie Su, a former acting labor secretary in the Biden administration, as the first deputy mayor for economic justice.

“Lisa Gelobter’s decades-long career as a computer scientist, innovator, and entrepreneur has been defined by her commitment to leveraging technology for the public good,” Mr. Mamdani said in a statement. “I am honored that she will bring that same vision and leadership to City Hall.”

Ms. Gelobter, who also served as the chief digital service officer at the U.S. Department of Education for the Obama administration, is viewed as one of the most prominent Black women in the technology world. Her appointment could appease some Black leaders who have criticized Mr. Mamdani for not appointing a Black deputy mayor for the first time in decades.

Ms. Gelobter was the director of program management at Macromedia where she helped develop Shockwave into a web plug-in that allowed for video games and animation on the web, turning still images into moving GIFs — animated images known as a graphics interchange format.

In 2021, Ms. Gelobter told Forbesthat the Shockwave plug-in helped “set the foundation” for the modern web. “It was the thing that made the web move and had the most significant impact in the U.S. from a technological perspective,” she told the magazine.

At the U.S. Department of Education, Ms. Gelobter created College Scorecard, a web app that helps students and their families evaluate prospective colleges. John B. King, Jr., the chancellor of the State University of New York, worked with Ms. Gelobter at the Education Department and praised her hire.

“No matter where she works,” Mr. King said in a statement, “Lisa brings a relentless belief in the ability of technology to uplift and empower people, to create a country where every person can access and afford an education, to create a tech industry where every person can deepen their skills and find a job, to create programs where every person can participate and get ahead.”

Is this "groundbreaking computer scientist" someone he grew fond of watching TV news? If not, he's no leader.

    OK latest Mamdani news.

He has a deficit, not a surplus so far they found. There is reserves but he's trying not to tap into those just yet.

He is not hiring 3000 or so more cops but will keep it where it is.  NYC is having a hard time finding recruitments.  Thats fair considering not too long ago the whole country went anti cop.

He wants to increase the property tax which isn't the best idea.  The lower incomes already burden that already.  NYC has some whacky tax laws regarding rental properties.

This may also be a bad idea because the added costs will go directly to the renter and bypass the owners. Even rent protected properties.

He wants to tax the rich.  I know Cuomo did this already.  Not sure what else they can do on this but they are working on it. Hocul doesn't want to do it.

Lets see if those free bus and rental freezes come to fruition.

He's trying.  Lets see what he and his admin can do.

He's trying.  Let’s see what he and his admin can do.
Who left the deficit for him?
So obviously Adams did.  One thing I can't find is if his promotion of free buses is getting covered under the proposed deficit?

He knocked it down to 5 billion from 12 billion. He found a way to get rid of 7 bill so far.

Even rent protected properties.

yeah all the wannabe cops joined ice, with predictable results.

nobody wants to be a cop because the make shit money and risk their lives. but they do get to gang up and beat people's asses whenever they want though, so some people might find that worthwhile.

he should tax the rich and call their bluff. if they are mad enough they will move.

Nice putting all the cops in one bunch.

You say they risk their lives one sentence then they like beating people in another...

You think they became Ice agents so they could be harassed even more?

Also he can't tax the rich without Holculs blessing.

no they joined ice for the 100k salary and sign on bonus. they had no background check to pass. they took the money because they could get paid 35% more than your average cop. if a city wants more cops, they need to pay them and take care of them.

but yes, i do not like cops because they kill people for no reason. they purposely escalate situations, and they shoot first and ask questions later. they have hair triggers. i have friends that are cops and i refuse to go to the bar with them because they are always wanting to fight. you have to have a certain personality to be a cop. the good ones go make more money elsewhere. same job, same risks, but if you are of that personality type, why not join ice for the money, the immunity, and the carte blanche?
