she never said the US government runs elections.Lerxst1992 said:PJ_Soul said:So the most logical solution would be to offer a piece of government ID, either at the state level or federal level, for free. For cases where there is literally no way to prove someone is who they say they are, well, that's just tough shit, no?? That would be SOOOOO much easier and cheaper than the BS going on now in the US. To allow someone to vote without any ID is absolute lunacy, so that's no solution. It's fucking ridiculous that the US government can't figure this out. And it can't just be blamed on the GOP. The Democrats have had opportunities in the past to make it work, and they never bothered. It’s incorrect to cite “the US government” as that entity does not run elections.
Voter IDs are typically used by republican states (edit, and swing states that are typically run by republican legislators) to make voting for poor people more difficult, since they are more often hourly workers that do not get paid for time outside work, and more likely to not have their own cars, making registration for accepted IDs more time consuming and difficult.
the R states take this much further at times, by allowing beneficial IDs such as military or gun registration and prohibiting items such as college IDs.
itd be nice to change this to operate more fairly, but Dems have been losing the majority of state and local elections for decades, because Dems only show up in numbers when Bill Clinton or Obama runs, outside of that one Biden win when they allowed many mail in ballots. Elections are state and local. Need to win those elections to make the rules.“ It's fucking ridiculous that the US government can't figure this out.”
seems clear what that’s saying. Feds try telling the states what to do lol, IF the dems ever get to run the senate the next twenty years, and if so, good luck getting this court to sign off. So states are running their own shows regarding elections.0 -
yeah, I know. no laws are federal, congress has no control over anything, and the courts NEVER reinterpret past rulings. /sYour boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0
-
Not sure what, if anything, that fantasy is supposed to mean. Elections have always been run by municipalities and states. So we’re shifting from the “feds figuring things out” to a conservative courts “interpretations” lol. This Court has been clear on its interpretation. So unless you have a Time Machine, or can find a hundred thousand democratic voters in five or six swing states…that fantasy ain’t happening0

Salt water laced with cancer-causing chemicals, a byproduct of oil and gas drilling, keeps shooting out of the ground in Oklahoma. Experts say it means even more wastewater is spreading underground, poisoning the state’s water supply.

What I do argue is when we strip mine a mountain and leave coal tailings and nothing grows on top of it after we are done.
When we clear cut a forest and no trees grow after we leave it.
When you dump so much plastic in the ocean you have it make small islands and fish have plastic particles in their stomachs.
When every fish has traces of mercury in them.
I also like to bring up acid rain and the ozone. 2 things we caused as humans and made go away or helped fix them.

Homes are collapsing in North Carolina. It could spell trouble for other coastal areas, too
When Stacy Morgan and her husband, Brandon Dodick, bought their beach house in Buxton, North Carolina, in May, they imagined one day spending their retirement there.
Five months later, the house was gone.
Theirs was one of 27 beachfront homes in Buxton and Rodanthe, two villages on Hatteras Island, part of North Carolina’s barrier islands, that have collapsedinto the ocean since 2020. Rising sea levels and relentless storms are erasing land faster than locals – or officials – can respond.
Many of the homes that have collapsed were hundreds of feet away from the ocean’s shoreline when they were initially built, said Reide Corbett, the dean of the Coastal Studies Institute at East Carolina University.
