    Been wondering this myself a lot lately.  I think they are stepping back to let the people speak.  It's the people who need to make this change, it needs to happen as organically as possible.  Trump can mock and denigrate Schumer, Jeffries, et al., but he cannot do the same to the American people individually.  

    Now, whether the American people are willing and able to speak is another matter entirely.

    Being a long-time native of California, I can tell you this is not a perfect place, and certainly not the dazzling Hollywood glitz that it is reputed to be by some (it's a huge state with very diverse populations, climates, and bio-regions and L.A. is but one facet of the state), and it is a mere shadow of the beautiful place it was when I was born, but I must say, I feel extremely fortunate to live in one of the few states with a governor willing to stand up to fascism and authoritarian rule.  (Kudos to Illinois and their governor Pritzker for that as well!)
    I am also encouraged whenever I hear about MAGA and hard right people who get fed up with "Newscum" and "radical left wing California" and leave the state.  Good riddance!  And as much as it concerns me that my state's population has nearly quadrupled in my life time (!), I welcome newcomers who move here because they favor this state's diversity and relatively progressive population (rural and semi-rural areas like where I live often being the exception).  
    Tired of your right wing state?   Move to California.  You are welcome here!
