    Most of us only buy this stuff because we feel like we will miss out or regret it later.  If there was no danger of it selling out people would have less fomo and would buy less.  

    They are trying to thread a needle between creating a demand by making stuff limited and still selling a ton of merch.

But while I was waiting next in line to go up, a guy  (who had already purchased his merch) came back in line. The lady who's register I was at told another clerk, "Yeah, he was with me, he can go ahead and go". I don't know what happened with his original transaction that he was able to go right back up (maybe they were temporarily out of license plates, and then got some?). Anyway, he asked if there was a limit on the license plates.  The clerk said, "no". He said, "I'll take 5".

    Wow!
