I found that article to be a huge waste of time. There’s a lot of stupid in the States’ culture and society, starting with leadership on down. Shocker. People value sensationalism over truthfulness - shocker. AI will be used in place of people utilizing their brains - shocker.

What was I supposed to get out of this?
The point of using AI is to challenge it to give better responses. Sometimes poor questions lead to poor answers. So continue the dialogue and see how it can think. It’ll give far more intelligent replies when challenged than most of what’s on the internet.

Its miles and miles ahead of social media and anecdotal one sided opinion stories, which is bombarded on this forum regularly, while no one else questions the value of that.

AI is going to be even worse for society than social media has been.
I’ve said often that unfortunately I’m done with first year of a complex injury rehab and overall doing ok but recently had a setback. The concise and detailed medical information, the way I can pinpoint Gemini to focus on specifics and a back and forth, covering SCORES of detailed and specific questions that pertain only to me, simply was not available even three years ago, when the first hint arrived I’d need to be doing a lot of medical research. Although, thankfully not life threatening at all, my case may be one of the most complex ones to exist. AI has been incredible in its focused information, getting it to focus on my specifics, that was not available three years ago.

It’s a shame people don’t realize AIs potential, and are unwilling to consider change, which was something Dems were supposed to champion, at least in 2008. Oh well

plus for the advanced financial calculations, calculating a net present value on two different interest rate mortgage cash flows , and then discounting backward  forty years so we could attempt to have an intelligent dialogue at how bad current housing is in real terms to back when Ten was dominating rock radio, can now be done in seconds. On a phone. This was impossible three years ago

i challenge any commenter that the ai data Copied onto this forum is far more informative and exponentially less biased than the social media crap and anecdotal opinion pieces that the far left posts here regularly
This is now way off-topic. You should re-post this in the AI discussion.
Hal posted an article that LLMs are “ comically stupid when stretched beyond them” because they can’t explain idioms. That’s not what I’d use LLMs for. Obviously there are far better uses.

I was the one commenter that treated the article as a reasonable opener for attempting an intelligent dialogue. As I’ve been using ai to try to specifically calculate why mamdaniomnics is dangerous for nyc and better wealth building tools and tax advantages are currently available to New Yorkers, it fits fine as a rebuttal to the article they posted,

and of course it’s always the centrist that gets told it’s off topic? Gonna pretend there’s no bias in that ;)
I finished reading your post after the ones before it, you had the most recent post, and I responded to it. I don't really care what you identify as. You sure do a lot of jumping to conclusions. Being the stickler for rules that you are, I thought you'd appreciate the help.

how is ai specific to your specific condition? if it is that rare, is ai speculating now? or are there other documented just as rare, just as complex, case studies it is referencing?

i am in the medical field and i would honestly like to know.
It's the type of thing where very very experienced Hospital doctors look at my scans with complete amazement and comment that they only see stuff like this in textbooks. I'm able to have a back and forth with AI and have a discussion about the recent bumps in the road I've encountered. I know to be very cautious with what it tells me, especially because I'm too cheap to pay 20 bucks a month for the pro version. In the end a Simple Solution like a new heating pad help me get back on the right path. Was too rough shape Friday to go to PT but will be there today

US spirits exports tumble as drinkers shun American brands, industry warns

    Summary

U.S. exports to Canada drop 85% in Q2

Other key markets like EU and Japan also see steep declines

DISCUS worries consumers choosing non-U.S. brands

Consumer companies broadly note anti-American sentiment

Exports of U.S. spirits fell 9% in the second quarter, according to a report by the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States published on Monday, which warned that trade tensions were hitting demand in key markets.

The decline marked a sharp reversal from 2024's strong export performance, with steep drops across major markets including the European Union, Canada, Britain and Japan, which together represent 70% of total exports by value, DISCUS said. The trade association represents top spirits makers, including Jameson Irish whiskey maker Pernod Ricard (PERP.PA) and Brown-Forman (BFb.N), which produces Jack Daniel's.

Canada saw the most dramatic fall, with U.S. spirits exports plummeting 85% to below $10 million in the second quarter. The majority of Canadian provinces continue to ban American spirits from their shelves in response to U.S. tariffs targeting Canada, although the country removed retaliatory tariffs in September.

Exports to the EU, the industry's largest market, dropped 12% to $290.3 million, while shipments to Britain fell 29% to $26.9 million and those to Japan decreased 23% to $21.4 million, with DISCUS also citing trade tensions.

"There's a growing concern that our international consumers are increasingly opting for domestically produced spirits or imports from countries other than the U.S., signaling a shift away from our great American spirits brands," said DISCUS President Chris Swonger.

Other consumer goods industries have warned about rising anti-American sentiment following the sweeping tariff regime and other policies pursued by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Denim maker Levi Strauss (LEVI.N) warned in August that it faced risks of "rising anti-Americanism" as a consequence and that some consumers could shift away from U.S. products. McDonald's (MCD.N) CEO Chris Kempczinski told investors in May that the company had also observed an uptick in such sentiment, particularly in Northern Europe and Canada.

The export slump comes as American whiskey producers contend with slowing domestic sales and record-high inventory levels, DISCUS said.

Swonger said that the spirits sector is deeply interconnected, meaning U.S. tariffs hit the industry as a whole. He urged the Trump administration to work toward restoring zero-for-zero tariffs with trading partners.

    yes, me too.

just be careful you do not follow the wrong ai advice. webmd, thought not ai, is notorious for that.

my dad is in the hospital right now and i was talking with a couple of the nurses and they said that a lot of times patients will tell them that something was going on that was urgent and ai would tell them to wait to see someone. at this stage in the ai lifetime, i still believe it is better to at least call the office and ask questions before following any medical advice from ai. i don't want people to waste time when in most cases treatment is more successful with earlier intervention.

Coal’s going to be king again. In about two weeks. We have some very smart people working on it. Very smart. Some of the smartest. Look, nobody knows more about coal than me and lots of people are saying, lots of smart people, mind you, it’ll be king again. I think in about two weeks but maybe not that long. We’ll see but two weeks seems about right. You’ll thank me when coal is king again because it’ll be so clean. Never cleaner. I call it Kleen King Koal or KKK for short.

Global renewable energy generation surpasses coal for first time

Record solar expansion and steady wind growth driving world’s shift away from fossil fuels in 2025, report finds

The world’s wind and solar farms have generated more electricity than coal plants for the first time this year, marking a turning point for the global power system, according to research.

A report by the climate thinktank Ember found that in the first six months of 2025, renewable energy outpaced the world’s growing appetite for electricity, leading to a small decline in coal and gas use.

The world generated almost a third more solar power in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2024, meeting 83% of the global increase in electricity demand. Wind power grew by just over 7%, allowing renewables to displace fossil fuels for the first time.

The milestone represents “a crucial turning point”, according to Małgorzata Wiatros-Motyka, a senior electricity analyst at Ember and the author of the report.

She said: “Solar and wind are now growing fast enough to meet the world’s growing appetite for electricity. This marks the beginning of a shift where clean power is keeping pace with demand growth.”

China and India were largely responsible for the surge in renewables, according to the Ember report, in contrast with the US and Europe, which relied more heavily on fossil fuels.

A separate report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) found that global renewables could more than double by the end of the decade, with 80% of new clean energy capacity expected to come from solar power.

Fatih Birol, the IEA’s executive director, said: “The growth in global renewable capacity in the coming years will be dominated by solar PV – but with wind, hydropower, bioenergy and geothermal all contributing, too.”

The IEA said China would remain the world’s biggest growth market for renewables, with India emerging as the second largest over the rest of the decade.

“In addition to growth in established markets, solar is set to surge in economies such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and several south-east Asian countries,” Birol added.

China added more renewable energy generation than the rest of the world combined, leading to a 2% drop in its use of fossil fuels in the first half of the year compared with the same months in 2024, Ember found.

Over the same period India grew its renewable energy by more than three times its electricity demand – which was significantly weaker this year – causing its coal and gas use to fall by 3.1% and 34% respectively.

By contrast, demand for electricity in the US outpaced its growing renewables sector, leading to a 17% increase in coal generation in the first half of the year.

In the EU, demand showed only modest growth compared with the first half of last year, but a weather-related slump in wind and hydro power meant even fast-rising solar power could not prevent gas and coal generation increasing by 14% and 1.1% respectively.
