Yeah, but they would ensure everyone got one and at no cost. The whole point of requiring ID is to dissuade people from voting, by pricing them out, or by inconveniencing them out. The whole point is to chase inaction.FiveBelow said:Only 46 of the 47 countries that make up Europe require photo ID to vote.Post edited by Tim Simmons on0 -
But if you want us to be more like Europe, I’m fine with that.0

I’m sure we could pull some scratch from our never ending supply of war, homelessness, and drug addiction enabling funds to help people obtain an ID. Just need the party to start talking about a solution, instead of making excuses. We are required to show ID for a multitude of reasons, it’s not like this is a new concept. Embrace it and call their bluff if you feel this is solely meant to deter voters.Tim Simmons said:

As people say that Voter ID corrects a problem that is statistically so small of an issue...etc etc etc..Go Beavers said:
It’s estimated 20 million people don’t have one.hunterh75 said:What's so god damn hard about showing an ID?? JFC. Some of y'all need to hop on the Freedom Flotilla and help Greta and her lil dutch boy haircut deliver aid to the Oct 7 terrorists.
I do wonder how many of those 20 million (I am just assuming you are correct) have voted in the last 20 years? Did where you got your information from have that data? Cause why not do a pretty common sense thing (Prove ID to vote) if it really isn't effecting anyone?
The poll tax argument is the one that I do struggle with...and I am not sure how to do it effectively cause to prove your identity to get an ID certainly costs $ and you have to have a way to prove your identity to begin with. Otherwise I'd say use mobile vans to go into communities and offer free IDs (paid for by taxpayers) and then enforce a Voter ID law.hippiemom = goodness0 -
In Indiana...you can obtain a free voter ID card with the BMV.
That's nice but it is still a step that a lot of people might have an issue with (i.e. elderly, disabled, etc). It certainly does prevent some people from voting...no doubt about it. And the people it targets are going to be lower income people that rely on public transportation who won't have any other form of picture ID.

but also, what do we show IDs for enshrined constitutional rights? If I decided I wanted to exercise my right to bear arms, I’d have to show my ID to purchase a gun in most circumstances. If I found myself accused of a crime, my identity would have to be established at some point prior to my right of a trial by jury. If most other democracies figured it out, I’m sure we could too. Excuses aren’t the solution.0 -
Figure what out? There isn’t a real problem. This is an invented issue meant to marginalize. When fraud happens it gets caught. It isn’t widespread and is statistically irrelevant. It was propagated because some dude was butthurt because he couldn’t self reflect enough that maybe not everybody doesn’t like him.Post edited by Tim Simmons on0

according to republicans the bill of rights are god given rights with no stipulations. you want a gun? we want everyone to be able to vote without any bullshit roadblocks."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

so what do you guys think trump's "exciting" announcement is going to be today?
will probably put a 3 hole golf course on the white house grounds or something stupid like that."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

I’d be fine with it if it was free, easy to get and everyone in the country who is eligible is automatically registered. Basically creation no barriers. That’s figuring it out.0
