He was probably thinking of summer of 2022, so he was off by a year. And I think it was $5, not 6. But still was a record high that year, higher than the average today, which was his point.

But I still agree this war is pointless and has caused gas to go up by $1.50 in 2 months.
I’ve never seen gas prices up above or nearing 6$ even in 2022 at least not here in NY
Today the national average is $4.30. The California average is $6.01

Well the California avg is always way higher due to taxes and environmental surcharges.... ;)

I find it funny how everyone argues over gas prices...then say the president has no control...then blame the other president...

It is 100% clear that presidential policies CAN lead to an increase at the pump.  Both wars like today and environmental policies...though more prevalent at the state level.  But on 1 thing I would agree with trump on, the price at the pump doesn't determine if the policy is good or bad alone.  There are many reasons the Iran War is bad and the price at the pump is low on the list.
That was my whole point...and I don't mean to suggest that Biden was perfect but gas was high globally under Biden and related more to a hot economy then what we are seeing now.

So for magats to make that comparison is ridiculous. trump is responsible for this bullshit.

Most likely due to the resurgence of people coming out of Covid creating a high demand.

Current average cost in California today is $6.01. Thanks Obama.

Is someone trying to say that trump and his stupid war in Iran is not responsible for high gas prices today, or am I misreading?  Because the price at the pump globally currently is directly due to trump and his military actions.

I don't think anyone is saying that. Although not directly stated, it seemed implied that gas prices have never been higher, I was just pointing out that they have.

This is what AI had to say about gas prices in 2022:

Key Factors for 2022 Gas Price Surge:
    • Russia-Ukraine War: The invasion caused severe disruptions and market uncertainty. The subsequent embargo of Russian oil, which notes happened when prices were already rising, contributed to the spike.
    • Rapid Demand Rebound: As pandemic restrictions lifted, fuel demand skyrocketed, faster than energy producers could increase output.
    • Underinvestment and Supply Chains: Oil producers were reluctant or unable to quickly increase supply, partly due to labor shortages and underinvestment in prior years.
    • Low Refinery Capacity: Refineries had decreased output to low levels during the pandemic, and they did not have the capacity to quickly meet the sudden surge in demand.
Given that the war started in February, and the price surge really took off in the summer and fell a few months later, I tend to think it was more the covid related issues. People were really traveling for the first time in 2 years, there was a huge demand and low reserves.

remember during covid a barrel of oil was worth negative dollars? nobody was buying because nobody was driving.

mace had ai answer what i was asking. the invasion of ukraine and the rebound demand coming out of covid were the two reasons i was looking for.

anybody remember how high gas was during the invasion of iraq in 2003? i know it was over $5 here in missouri, and that is the most expensive gas i have ever paid for in my life. i assume this trump iran war bullshit will have it over $5 here any day now. it was $4.90 today.

has trump dove into our strategic reserves yet? if not, why hasn't he? isn't that supposed to reduce prices here?

if he has, imagine how high gas would be right now.

Key Details of the Action (March 2026):
    • Amount: 172 million barrels.
    • Timeline: Deliveries began in late March 2026 and are scheduled over 120 days.
    • Context: This move is part of a coordinated release of 400 million barrels by the 32 member nations of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

I know it was high in late spring and summer of '22 but I don't remember it being well above $6.01.  And I only use Chevron, so I'm sure the average was less than what I paid.

In any case, the difference between then and now is that in 2022, the price was driven up by the Russian-Ukraine war.  Today, it's being driving up by idiots in the current admin.  Big diff!

Oh, and earlier today, I paid $5.75 per gallon at a Chevron station.  If I had had enough cash and paid with cash, it would have been $5.65.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I have seen anything connected to Trump that didn't piss me off, and maybe could even be good, which has me suspicious, lol. I don't know much about this stuff in the US, and obviously have dubious feelings about anything the freak does, so am not sure if I'm missing any major downsides. If anyone with insight can comment, that would be cool. If this is actually a positive thing, colour me shocked, but I am happy to give credit where it's due.

As usual, devil is in the details. From the link:

It’s not yet clear just how how many of the more than 50 million people who are eligible to use TrumpIRA.gov will do so.

Further, while offering the “match”, it represents 5% of contributory income for an individual making $27,500 or less, no mention of what happens when you can’t maintain over time. Money grab?

But hey! Gubmint can subsidize “retirement” but not healthcare?  Sounds like CCOOTWHtire. It’s for suckers.

After all that we know, everything that has transpired, everything, from “Mexico will pay for the wall”, to those “dividend” checks or “tariff” payments, to “Iran’s nuclear dust is obliterated” to the ballroom will cost “$350M”, “paid for by private donations” while legislation is introduced for taxpayers to pay $400M, AND EVERYTHING In between AND AROUND, and there’s even a smidgen of “belief” or “faith” from anyone, particularly outside of the U-S-A, is particularly troubling. Good fucking luck.

Good lord, how far, how very far we have fallen.

    Trust your instincts.

Do the research.. BIDEN passed this on 2022 to be implemented now. All fuckhead is doing is starting a site where you can SEARCH OPTIONS FOR RETIREMENT SAVINGS.

Just like his stupid trumpRX it really doesn't give you anything
