If you're not in Los Angeles, and you're watching the news somewhere else in the USA (or overseas), let me clarify a few things about what you're seeing.
1. No, Los Angeles is not under siege. 99.99% of Los Angeles is fine, calm and peaceful. It's a city with nearly 8 million people in the metropolitan area, and things are going on pretty much as usual, except for a small area downtown. Once again, Trump is lying and bullshitting you, trying to yank your chain. It's what he does.
2. Everything was fine here in Los Angeles until a whole bunch of ICE agents showed up in plain clothes, no identification, no proper uniforms, wearing masks, and started dragging people off the street into unmarked cars. For god's sake--even if you think ICE should be pulling random brown people off the street (I don't— how many of you know that immigration violations are civil violations, NOT criminal violations? And yet we are allowing these people to literally kidnap people off the streets… For civil violations?), this new tactic of what appear to be anonymous, deputized Proud Boys and weirdo militia guys into new ICE agents who are given free reign to terrorize people is complete nonsense and bullshit. Remember all the "Don't Tread On Me" flags and the Constitution and all the Federalist papers written by the founding fathers to shield the United States from tyranny? Well, guess what: this is tyranny, plain and simple. To quote W. West Allen: "History teaches that tyranny can be its worst when exercised in the name of the sovereignty of the people. Freedom exists only when there is no abuse of power, regardless of the form of government. We have learned by sad experience that every person invested with power is apt to abuse it and carry that authority as far as it will go." Again, this is what Trump does. He abuses power. It doesn't matter if you personally like what he is doing. He is abusing his power and this is tyranny.
3. Naturally, people were upset when anonymous, plainclothes ICE agents kidnapped people off the streets (these were folks working their jobs, celebrating children's birthday parties, even waiting in line to finalize their LEGAL immigration paperwork--NOT drug dealers and dangerous criminals), and so there were peaceful protests. This is important for the old folks in Iowa and Alabama to understand: there is a huge, enormous difference between "peaceful protest" and "rioting." There are so many people I talk to who literally think they are the same thing. Los Angeles had peaceful protesters (protected by the constitution's first amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."). This is the important distinction: will there always be some bad players who come in and only want chaos and trouble? Of course. There were peaceful protests followed by people setting cars on fire and breaking stuff and throwing stuff at the police. These were not peaceful protestors. These people should obviously be jailed and prosecuted. But it's important to understand that what you're seeing on TV (especially Fox News and Newsmax, who go out of their way to push a far-right agenda and obscure the truth) is basically political theater to agitate and upset you. It's a very small percentage of what is happening, and the peaceful protestors are NOT the same people who are "rioting." There is a constitutional right to protest. There is no constitutional right to burn cars and loot 7-11's. Know the difference. Trump and Fox News will have you believe that there is no difference and that all protestors should be jailed, but there is a huge difference. Again, Trump constantly lies and is completely full of shit on this issue.
4. Trump is doing illegal things right now. By sending in the National Guard and now the Marines, he is breaking the law that says that the state government must ask for Federal help. The governor, the mayor of Los Angeles, and the chief of the LAPD have all said they don't want the National Guard or the Marines coming in. Do you "patriots" remember freaking out a few years ago over a thing called "state's rights?" yes, another one of the ways that the founding fathers devised to keep tyranny out of our government--Trump is using this as an excuse to blast away those rules and laws and norms and become an all-powerful dictator and authoritarian leader. The nonsense he's saying about how he has to send these military forces in because the state government won't do it? Complete nonsense. He's doing it to make a TV production for Fox News and Newsmax. He's doing it to pit his radical authoritarian ideology against the blue states who he views as the enemy. No other reason. He envisions himself as a strongman, even though he is pathetically, almost comically weak; so he is doing stuff like this to prop up his image with the people who support him. It is bullshit, like everything else that Trump does.
5: This should scare the crap out of you: yesterday, helicopters over the protests announced over their loudspeakers that they had "identified protesters and would be coming to their houses to arrest them." Hey conservatives, remember all your fears about surveillance and your constitutional rights being denied and government overreach and tyranny and all that stuff? How about the police using facial recognition technology to identify you on the street and then coming to your home to arrest you? Seriously, if there was ever a moment to stand up to tyranny, this...would...be...that...time. Are you a Patriot? Or are you in a cult of personality worshipping Donald Trump? Once again, it's bullshit, just like everything else that Trump does. He talks about freedom and liberty, but enables tyranny. I call bullshit.
Lastly, it should be pointed out that Obama deported 3 million illegal immigrants during his 8 years as president, and Biden deported 4.4 million illegal immigrants during his four years as president. Neither one of these presidents had to call in the National Guard, send Marines, disperse tear gas and smoke bombs, or try to create "shock TV" stories for their favorite news network. Think about that for a minute. Trump is doing ALL of this as political theater, just for your benefit. He doesn't have to do any of this. It's all bullshit and nonsense, just like everything he does. Don't believe the fake narrative he constantly tries to get you to believe.
But yeah, Los Angeles? We're fine. We're going to be fine. We've survived earthquakes, fires, floods--no two-bit television reality show star is going to break the spirit of this city. Don't believe what you see on the news. It's bullshit

I mean, you could have said the same thing about 9/11. Size on a map isn’t really a defense.
A map of Washington, D.C. Near the area labeled “Washington” on the map is a red dot. That represents the area where a violent insurrection occurred and that was shown on TV. The dot, like on the Los Angeles map, is easily noticeable and doesn't require an arrow drawn towards it. Looting consisted of a lectern.

This red dot did over $2.7 million of damages to federal property, which is a US offence with up to ten years' prison sentences, and up to $250,000 fine (USC 1361 - which I can't find a detailed current version on the DOJ site - if anyone can help, please do). Trump pardoned all of the people who were responsible for that - shouldn't he treat red dots equally?
It’s amazing to me that certain posters are all in on US citizens being arrested and detained without warrants or charges. They’re only crime? Being “the other.” And some even believe that their white privilege will spare them. Why? Because they fear elimination of the white race and believe all “others” are here illegally and are criminals. Nice to be this guy, eh?
Actually no. I believe in enforcing immigration but not scared of being eliminated... It's ok to be pro enforcement and not be a racist/biggot, add word here.
Arresting people for probable cause is admitted without a warrant. I remember Joe Arpajo doing that and it not working out for him though.
How do you enforce immigration if you don't arrest and deport people?

The way Obama and Brandon did it. And you seem okay with US citizens being arrested and detained without charge as nary a condemnation of the event that I posted. He was arrested and held for hours because he was the “other” working construction.

The riots/protest in LA are likely going to cause much more in damages than that, including to local government buildings. Im not defending 1/6. I think the pardons were wrong. But if you’re going to bring up cost, the LA riots are likely much higher. I also think all rioters should be treated equally, those burning down police cars and buildings should be treated the same as 1/6 rioters, and face similar consequences.
You think insurrectionists should be treated the same as common thugs? Hard disagree. They should be prosecuted to the extent of the law, which would be damage to property. J6ers tried to overthrow the government FFS

You throw bricks and Molotov cocktails at cops, burn police cars, that should have severe consequences too.

It should, but the offences aren’t “equal”. In some cases, they might be worse. Not sure why you think J6 and LA should be treated the same when they aren’t.

Im not defending 1/6. I think the pardons were wrong. But if you’re going to bring up cost, the LA riots are likely much higher. I also think all rioters should be treated equally, those burning down police cars and buildings should be treated the same as 1/6 rioters, and face similar consequences.
