Which Concert(s) Are You Most Grateful You Attended?

I was asked in the thread about concert regrets, which shows I'm most grateful I attended, and figured I would start an inverse of that thread. Off the top of my head, @brianlux, here's a few:

U2 - Foxboro, MA 1992 - Zoo TV tour, Primus opened - I've never seen U2 since, and kind of don't want to, I can't imagine it would ever top that night.

Nirvana - Springfield, MA, 1993

Faith No More, Avalon, Boston, 1995

Queens of the Stone Age, Boston, 2002 - Nick Oliveri / Dave Grohl / Mark Lanegan lineup. SFTD hadn't come out yet, so I was unfamiliar w/ the material, but you just knew you were witnessing something special. It was at the Paradise which only holds 930 some odd people... met DG afterwards as he was breaking down his own kit... was even nicer in person then he comes across in interviews

Pearl Jam, Hartford & Boston, 2010 - I had only seen them once since 2000, and these two shows reminded me how amazing they were; that night in Boston I told myself I had to see them as much as possible before they quit... it's been an awesome 15 years since then.

Them Crooked Vultures, House of Blues, Boston (2010 I think?) - JPJ / Hommes / Grohl / Johannes... what more can you say?

Tool, Monster Mash Festival, Tempe, AZ 2015 - Halloween night, Tool came out dressed as Led Zeppelin and opened w/ No Quarter. Also debuted a new song and the new trippy version of Opiate... amazing night.

Temple of the Dog - Philly N1

PJ - N1 Milwaukee 95, Maybe the 2016 Wrigley shows as well - first show (ever) and a capstone for the best Cubs season ever
Daft Punk - 2007 Lolla - probably the greatest concert I've ever witnessed
LCD Soundsystem - 2010 Pitchfork Music Fest - probably the peak moment of The Pitchfork hipster aughts Indie era when the whole park was singing All My Friends

White Stripes - 2007 Hyde Park - epic

The Verve - The Riv 1997 - other worldly
The National - Double Door 2006 - the first of what because my most seen band
My Bloody Valentine Aragon 2008 - the volume

There have been so many!  I'll go with my top six here (and then later maybe wish I had including some others, lol):

Pearl Jam was a huge one for me, for sure.  I am forever grateful for former poster here, DS, who arranged to get me a ticket to see the band in MIssoula in 2012.  That was a classic Pearl Jam show and one of my top favorites, others being...

1968, WInterland, The Jimi Hendrix Experience.  An unforgettable concert experience.

Also unforgettable, 1968, San Jose Civic Auditorium, The Who and Blue Cheer.  That one all started when a friend in high school came up to me and said, "Hey Brian, guess Who is coming to do a concert in San Jose?"  Wow!

1970, The Planetarium in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, Sun Ra and Arkestra.  An out-of-this-world experience!

1982, San Francisco Civic Auditorium, The Clash and the English Beat.  Joe Strummer was in fine fiery form!

1983, S.F. Civic, U2 and The Alarm, the War Tour.  Incredible!

Very envious of your Clash show. I don't know why I never made it to one of their shows.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2
    2024 Sacramento, CA

Concerning U2 you should have tried for the Sphere that was the best concert I’ve ever experienced! No other concerts that I’ve attended can compare to that show

I would have loved to be at the one where they played Achtung Baby front to back.

I'm not actively avoiding U2, the stars just haven't been in alignment for me to see them again.

Okay! It's old man story time.

1991 Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Alice in Chains, Spinal Tap - Hollywood Palladium. To say this show was insane is an understatement. It was rumored that Metallica was going to be a surprise guest, but it ended up being TOTD, which was much better. A lot of the crowd hadn't heard of/didn't care about this new band called Pearl Jam. I watched so many people walk out to the lobby area and not come back for their set. They were obviously stupid.

1983 David Bowie, Madness, Go-Go's for Bowie's Serious Moonlight Tour in Anaheim, CA. My buddies and I spent the night in the parking lot to buy tickets. It proved to be pointless, since they did a wristband lottery in the morning. We did have a great time partying with 100+ other dummies, and my buddy and I got interviewed for the local newspaper.

Year? Tin Machine at Hollywood Palladium(I think). There was some problem and they started early, so the crowd was light. I was right in front. I remember thinking that it's so bizarre standing here so close and watching Bowie playing rhythm guitar on the song(s) where one of the Sales brothers sang.

1986 Cheap Trick and Guns n Roses at Fender's Ballroom, Long Beach, CA. I couldn't believe that Cheap Trick were going to play at this little punk rock/metal venue in Long Beach. On top of that, I'd been wanting to check out this new band called Guns n Roses that were getting some local love. I was front row. GnR came out and I could smell their junkie B.O. I was right in front of Slash and his amp was loud. They threw out vinyl copies of their newly pressed EP called Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide. And then, CHEAP TRICK! Rick was getting pissed at the rowdy crowd, but we all had fun.

1990 Social Distortion and Cadillac Tramps at some Irish Pub in Fullerton, CA. This was a secret show where they played a lot of their songs off their soon to be released, and long awaited, second album. The pub was tiny. There was maybe 50 people there and I caught a cassette of the new album that they threw out to the crowd. This was the best show I've seen with both of these legendary bands.

So many more. That's it for now. Gotta go take my Geritol.

Some awesome, jealousy inducing responses here, keep 'em coming.

Another one that popped into my mind is Iggy Pop on the Post Pop Depression tour in 2016. My interest in the album and tour stemmed from the backing band (Josh Hommes, Dean Fertita, Troy Van Leeuwen & Matt Helders) but seeing Iggy live is something to behold... the dude had the crowd in the palm of his hand the whole night... he was amazing.

Tragically Hip. Aug 5/16. The Hip's final tour after Gord's diagnosis. Was lucky to get tickets. Sold out instantly. Was emotional AF.

It was an amazing show.   One thing happened at that show that I probably didn't fully understand at the time.  About half way through the show, Joe Strummer walked up to the mic and mumbled something that wasn't clear and then, shoving his middle finger in the air, he screamed "Fuck you all!"  The crowd response, figuring this was just a really cool Joe punk rock thing, was to go nuts, cheering and hollering for joy, followed by Strummer slamming into the next number with an intense vengeance.
In retrospect, have read up a lot more about Strummer and the band, this was around the time that Joe was beginning to feel disillusioned with how punk was being viewed and perceived by the then widening acceptance and adoption by many of punk rock.  Strummer was adamant about his political and social views and wanted his music to reflect his feelings and beliefs.  He felt that, by then, most audience members viewed punk as a fashion statement or something trendy, and the last thing he wanted was to be all about something merely trendy.  Quite interesting music history in retrospect.

seems history repeated itself with Corduroy by PJ and In Bloom by Nirvana. And Ed's freak out on stage when a girl shouted she loved him and he lost his mind.

Whoa!  Any footage on that incident?  Never heard of it before.

Merkin Baller and I have been following each other around for 25 years and had no idea. Ditto the TCV and Post Pop Depression shows. A few that come to mind....

    Tool @ Hammerstein Ballroom
Living Colour @ Johnny D's in Somerville
Roger Waters w/ My Morning Jacket @ Newport Folk Fest
Pearl Jam @ Nassau Coliseum - truly the weirdest vibes ever
    Velvet Revolver @ Avalon
    1st One Big Holiday
    System/Incubus/Mr. Bungle @ Lupo's
    David Gilmour @ Radio City
Tool at Hammerstein is in my ‘regrets’ pile… we were in line at the Filene’s ticket kiosk at the Chestnut Hill Mall the second it went on sale and missed them by a fraction.

Good call on System / Incubus / Bungle - I caught that show at Avalon and it was a great one.

You jogged my memory about the first Mr Bungle show I saw in '95 (Avalon, again)... that one I'm particularly grateful I went to... none of my friends wanted to go, but I didn't let that deter me.... going alone that night opened the door to so many other fantastic shows that I might not have gone to otherwise if I wasn't comfortable flying solo... trying for single tickets landed me in the 2nd row at the Orpheum for Primus when they played Sailing the Seas of Cheese & in the 1st ten rows for some other great acts including Tool & APC.

While on the subject of A Perfect Circle, IIRC they kicked off their first headlining tour at Avalon in 2000, another concert I'm  grateful I was able to see.

It's no small coincidence that some of my favorite shows were at Avalon, that place was the shit. I was heartbroken when they tore that & Axis down to build the HOB.

Ha! My buddy and I were at some little record store in downtown Springfield like 3rd in line. 1 minute before the onsale 2 guys show up and the owner lets them in first saying "they were here way before you guys they just went to get coffee." Starts getting a little chippy. My buddy and I each got a pair and they told the guy behind us it was sold out. People were getting HOT as we walked out.

Oh man yeah those old APC shows. I get chills thinking about them. The first one I saw was when they opened for NIN in Hartford before the album came out. That Avalon show with Diary of a Lovesong was insane.

It really was... then they came back around & played Brandeis in Waltham of all places. At that show they covered Ashes to Ashes by Bowie... one of the greatest covers I've seen in my life. That original lineup was easily their best. (Paz in her miniskirts helped exponentially 😍)

Re: Snocore at Lupo’s… was that at the old Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel, or at the Strand Theater that Lupo’s eventually took over? Both are nice small venues, but Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel was significantly smaller.

Yeah. Joe did have a lot of struggles with the effects of fame and popularity. At the same time they did things like play that residency in NY and released "Rock the Casbah". Though that was probably more Mick. If I were in his position I would have gone through the same conundrum of wanting as many people to hear my message, but at the same time questioning myself if I sold out. I'd have lost my mind. Fame can seem great, but it is also a pathway to anxiety and depression. I'm sure we can all name so many artists who have succumbed to that avalanche of pressure.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2
    2024 Sacramento, CA
