    Back in my youth in the 80’s, I always envisioned 2025 as some futuristic utopia where people weren’t so fucking stupid as to be fooled by fascists anymore. And that we could move forward as a species instead of arguing over the shape of the planet.

    As heartless and mean as these people are, I honestly think it’s the incompetence that made this escalate this quickly. I have a generally believe they tripped over their own feet and causing this much pain as quickly.

    That all said the intentional part is having Trump do illegal things that the courts will back him for because they are loyal to him and his party. Checks and balances are done. It’s over.

    To me trump is the strongest argument for term limits. We're in this situation where his party has collapsed in fealty because they are too worried about getting primaried and losing their cushy gov't salary/benefits. 

    Imagine how different things would be if a Senator could only serve one term. No need to bow to a moron like trump if you don't have to worry about fundraising or winning your seat again.

    Good point. As much as this whole disaster is a GOP creation, if you didn’t have some feckless opposition party pushing centrist legacies into perpetual roles in Congress, people might actually get a chance to select some folks that would take on what’s happening with the attention it deserves. And, as you point out, they wouldn’t be doing it for a cushy government job for life. It’s probably too late now, but it does seem to be something that people from all over the spectrum agree upon… Lifetime appointments in Congress are not good.

    With trump shutting down all these agencies and freezing funding all down the line, which I believe is the beginning of his effort to consolidate his power, I’m starting to wonder if the end game here is to basically strong arm 2/3 of congress into overturning the 22nd amendment. “You vote my way, you get (insert resource)”.
