On the one hand, 80% of Pearl Jam is still Pearl Jam ... on the other hand, I miss the extra 20% particularly when 7 of the 24 songs are the same new ones each night.  This confirms where I need to keep my expectations for the Wrigley shows ... still gonna be a great time
Seen them 30 times. Got 6 shows coming up. Went crazy chasing certain songs for many years. I’m now so ready to hear the new album and the hits and just enjoy myself.
I think this is where you should be at, especially at this point in the band’s career. They’re still out there playing and doing it well. You might not get Whale Song or Angel played at a show but you will get a great mix of new stuff, old stuff, and maybe a little played song mixed in here and there. I can’t imagine we have too many big tours left out of this band and I am here for enjoying what we get!
agreed...exactly where I'm at. I'll hear repeats of the new stuff but that's fine. I still have Wrigley x 2 and Ohana x 2 to see Won't Tell, Got to Give, Stevie, Something Special and the album will be complete for me. That's my only goal this tour (of which I have no control)
Would love to get the whole album over 2 nights at Wrigley ... 7 a night with 3 repeats would be ideal but it might take 8 a night with 5 repeats

I would replace Lightning Bolt with Jeremy or Better Man in that encore slot.  Crowd would much favor the hits, and LB likely doesn’t do much for the hardcore fan.
Or small town... My daughter really wanted to hear that at her first show
I'm surprised they didn't play that one since they were in a "smaller" town than they normally play.

Lightning Bolt and DTE were the highlights. For me. Then Baba made for a great “ending.” To complain about the overall performance last night is silly, it’s 2024 people. Enjoy yourself

It was the weakest show I’ve seen to date. Doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy myself. I had a great time.

The shows are turning into Springsteen type shows, minus the length of course.  Everyone is happy.  They play a higher % of the hits.  It is like a party.  They aren’t challenging the audience with deep cuts.  For a period of time it felt like the politics and social issues were driving the show and Ed’s demeanor and performance. Now, There are still obligatory speeches about social issues, and they are genuine, but everyone turns happy again.

It is different.  I am glad they are happy.  Glad the shows are fun.   But these shows, while the songs aren’t all the same, are no longer unique.

Had a proper laugh out of this post on the plane. Maybe this band in 2024 is just…not for you?

Playing seven to eight songs from your new album when you're an act that has been around for over 30 years represents more challenging of the audience than nearly every other similar artist even approaches. Fortunately, that album is great and those songs were the highlights of the May shows for me.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

I saw Bruce last week. They played like, one song from the new album? If that. I imagine when it’s not the Dark Matter your anymore they’ll play more deep trax and such.

Bruce's last album was a covers album and it's almost two years old, and his last album of originals is four years old, so you're probably right about that (although I don't think he ever did more than a few songs from the covers album even when that album was new).

He did 'Nightshift' & 'Don't Play That Song' at my stop. I love Nightshift, but the perfect version already exists 😂

I’m trying to say Pearl Jam shows are not like Springsteen shows. Not that that would be so bad. PJ made an incredible album this year. Probably a good 15-20 years since the last worthwhile Bruce album depending on your opinion.

I wasn't disagreeing with you-- I was saying that you're right to note the difference between when a band is touring a new album and when it isn't. But now I will disagree with you: I think Letter to You was really good, and Western Stars was great. Honestly, I've loved all of Bruce's stuff in the past 20 years except Devils & Dust and Only the Strong Survive.

  • 2023 shows were a year ago. They had some of the best setlists we’ve seen in a long time. I expect that to happen again in 2025 whether it’s the Sphere or another 8-10 show run in the states. South America will probably get the same setlists we are seeing now.

I can’t imagine they won’t go deep into the catalog if everyone is traveling to Vegas for a mini-residency. However I’d prefer a Buffalo-Pitt-Cleveland-Detroit-Atlanta-Florida run

Exactly.  I was there.  I had a blast.  The crowd was great.  The venue and staff were amazing.   Sure, we all would love deeper cut tracks, and perhaps less DM material, but I'll take what we got.   It's better than sitting home and being FOMA.   My 0.0005 cents.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.
