Anyone see me get an elbow to the face at the second night in LA?

AB4076AB4076 Posts: 13
While PJ and friends were performing Rockin' in the Free World security was escorting out someone from the first row of section D who did not have a ticket to be there. Section D is the section behind the pit back barricade on Stone's side.  Well, this guy was not happy about this and swung his elbow into my face with me in the second row.  I told security that I wanted to file a report against him and security took me out to meet with the house manager.  I asked him to bring the police because I wanted to file a report against this guy.  The house manager firstly tried to talk me out of filing a report with the police. He also told me that the guy who hit me claimed that I had also hit him and that the police would just dismiss everything.  I turned to one of the security employees who had witnessed what had happened and asked him if I had swung or ever tried to hit the guy who hit me.  He told the house manager that no I had just been hit.  At this point the house manager changed his tune and started to say the police were very busy since the concert was over and that we would have to wait awhile before I could make a report to them and was I sure I wanted to wait.  The people sitting next to me who i thought had also been hit came over to me a few minutes later and asked me if the house manager had tried to talk us out of bringing in the police.

Long story short.  When this case goes to trial, I will have to fly back to LA as will the couple I was sitting next to so that we can go to court.
I honestly do not know why he swung at me unless he thought I had asked security to move him out of where he was sitting.  The guy who I went to the show said he turned to us and said he would kill us.  I do not speak Spanish so I do not know what he said.
The swelling has gone down in my lip and my tooth does not hurt a few days later but it really was a bummer this happen to me or anyone. I was never mad when I was kicked in the head while someone body surfed in the pit at previous PJ shows back in the day. This really caused me to lose some faith in fans.

If anyone saw this happen at the end of the show please let me know.  I want this guy to know that his actions have ramifications and to make sure we can keep the safety high at PJ concerts.

Thanks

Oh, one more thing.  The Forum is going to review the videos of the crowd to validate how I remember what happened.  The knew my seat location and will see that the videos shows.  I kind of lucked out that the house lights were up since this all happened near the end of the show.

Sorry your were assaulted. That sucks. Things have gotten bad in LA. Police don’t even pick up the phone when people call for 30-40 minutes. During Covid station’s lobbies were closed. The courts are so lenient police feel like many disputes aren’t worth their time to file a report. It’s the wild west out here again. Homeless can live in bus stops for months or in front of businesses and police won’t remove them. People can steal up to $950 and realistically not be charged with a misdemeanor. Jail overcrowding means people serve usually less than 10% of the sentence. We have  lot of problems out here now. So before flying back hoping for justice, don’t get your hopes up.

I once had a similar situation at a Soundgarden gig. I had to deal with the guy myself

You remind me of something that happened a couple of years ago. I was walking in my neighborhood when I came across a guy who was knocking on doors for Rick Caruso in the mayoral election. Caruso had lost a lot of credibility in my eyes when he said in a debate that "everyone in L.A. is afraid to leave their house." It was such shameless fearmongering, and utterly untrue. I grew up riding the subway in New York City when crime levels were exponentially higher than they are now in the late '80s and early '90s. I wasn't afraid then, and I'm certainly not afraid now when things are much, much safer. Anyway, I got to talking with the Caruso volunteer about this, and pointed out that Caruso obviously didn't believe his own rhetoric or he wouldn't in good conscience have sent people out into L.A. neighborhoods to knock on strangers' doors. He told me I made a great point.

L.A. is not "the wild west." The city is safe. I navigate it every day without any issues, and I don't avoid places because of hysterical news coverage (e.g., the subway) or stereotypes. Just this week, I walked close to a mile to and from the Forum through the streets of Inglewood from my car, which I parked on the street without incident as I always do when attending shows there, without even encountering a mean look.

Anyway, I'm sorry for what happened to the original poster, and I hope you find the responsible party and bring him to justice. But don't blame it on L.A. My brother is retired NYPD and now a judge and he makes the same complaints as PJammer4life about New York. It's almost all hyperbole.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

To clarify, my  “it’s the Wild West” comment refers to how you’re on your own when danger comes your way. I have friends who are cops who recommend me to be armed because the cops won’t be there to help in an emergency. I walk every night near my home and am not scared.  But due to slow response times cops aren’t going to be there to save you, even in your home. People post on Nextdoor that they reported trespassing on their property and cops never even showed up. “Wild West” is you need to carry a gun and protect yourself. Sometimes that’s all criminals understand.

Carry a gun to protect yourself and the most likely person to be injured by that gun is you, statistically. We don't need to be strapping in the streets because the streets are, by and large, quite safe.

Take what your cop friends tell you with a grain of salt. There's some truth to it, but there's also a lot of political posturing often underlying what they say. And delete Nextdoor. The people on that app are ridiculous. I was on it briefly in 2020 helping a neighbor search for a lost pet, and every day there would be people claiming they heard gunshots in our neighborhood the night before. It was the week before the Fourth of July. They were hearing fireworks. And it was weird how a lot of these people had a very specific idea of "suspicious" people in the neighborhood, i.e., there weren't any light-skinned "suspicious" people being reported on the app.

  • Sorry that happened to the OP. See what they give you with the footage, but I’d probably just let it be. It is the Wild West in LA. I can’t believe how much the Valley changed in the past 5 years! The laws are a joke. The D.A. Is a joke as well as our Governor.

Sorry this happened! not legal advice, but I think at minimum you need to decide whether you’re seeking damages (civil) or that criminal charges are brought. If it’s the former, you should document the heck out of everything, get a lawyer, and seek a settlement. If the latter, I don’t think it would be worth the physical and emotional toll to pursue.

Thanks for making a great reply. It's funny how the Fox News crowd love to compare different big cities to being the "wild west" and just like to talk trash about them, which has a lot to do with being afraid of "certain types of people". Nextdoor is nothing but a fearmongering site for nosy neighbors. I was on it and it was sickening to read. It really poisoned my view of my awesome and diverse neighborhood.

May want to leave that one to an atty. In Washington assault doesn't have to result un damages, but rather defined as physical contact that would be deemed unwanted by reasonable person.

Assault does not require physical contact. That is battery. No damages means no civil recovery. And this was Cali, not Washington. Anyhoo........

To me it sounds like the dude who was unhappy about getting escorted away from seat swung elbow randomly? Not purposely hitting oP? How is this a crime? And no damages... let's move on. Shit happens... no one hurt... it sucked but if he was swinging elbow because OP just in wrong place how is that battery?

Ah yes, the guy was just minding his business throwing elbows like any of us do when we go out in public places and then stating he will kill somebody.  Let it go.

Sure, if I wasn't hurt I may just let it go because I want to move on with my life.  Others may not feel that way and want to press charges.

Sorry that dude shouldn't do that. Punched in the jaw in a mosh pit. Ok. Minding my business. Not ok.
