Wow. Has Eddie ever played RVM without guitar? Strange.
I'm thinking he's starting to have Josh play some stuff because Eddie has tendonitis, according to him just recently, and giving up some of his guitar bits is to save him from making it worse. Pure speculation of course, but EV is definitely playing less, and since he claimed tendonitis is an ongoing/permanent problem, I feel like there is likely a connection. I'm sure the fact that Josh's playing is awesome also plays a part in it of course.
I think this was just because Watt was joining them. Watt played in place of Eddie on "Rearviewmirror," not Josh. Eddie does the intro bit in "Upper Hand," which seems like it would be difficult with tendinitis, so I don't think we should read too much into that comment. I think he was saying that sometimes he can have a tendinitis flareup, not that it's a chronic problem. He's still playing plenty of guitar at these shows.

I thought the set list was great: In My Tree, Leash, Off He Goes are favorites of mine, and Rearviewmirror is my favorite song, period, and I was glad they (finally!?!) brought it out last night.
Beyond that, seeing someone's 83yo dad in the pit was awesome; we know some people that age who rock harder than we do and go to Ohana, etc., and they're inspiring.
Not much more to say right now. The evening was dampened significantly for me by non-PJ things (big problem unearthed during a remodel, that was sent to me during RVM, and figure out my treatment options for cancer, yay), but the concert itself was a treat.

Gotta give Josh a ton of credit too. He is back there with a guitar in hand, while playing percussion and singing great backgrounds that were missing in past years.
One of the best In My Trees I have heard since the early days.
Lots of big songs I expect to see tonight but hope for some rarities again.
Opener has to be Release or Can't Keep
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

Wow. Has Eddie ever played RVM without guitar? Strange.
Only once that I know of — in about 1993. There's video out there but can't find it now. He seemed to get an electric shock or something, threw a tantrum and threw away the guitar, and just ripped into the lyrics. It was also the only time when he sang the "rearviewmirror" bits of the outro live.

To me, personally, this setlist felt like a San Diego gig, but just played up the 5 freeway a bit. It just had a San Diego vibe to me. I had a great time, saw a few faces I only see at gigs and spent time with my tribe. I thought the evening was great and loved hearing the ‘Dark Matter’ songs played live for the first time. Anyway, I had a great time and am going again, tonight. Maybe we’ll cross paths.

As a Chicago Bears fan I appreciated this look tonight...I still remember the horror at Milwaukee 2014 in that damn Packers jersey. It was a really good show but there were several songs I could of done without...
Enjoyed the show very much. Great crowd! I liked the setlist and dark matter tunes sounded good. Esp running & react respond. Eddie sounded so good on just breath. Leash, RVM, in my tree, etc. Cant wait for more hijinx tonight. On Mike side. Low side stage. LFG!!

Nice. I can see myself very fired up in this photo. Of course, the guy who left the rail with three songs left to go get in line for tonight also looks pretty fired up in this photo.
And, very appropriately, I can't see the face of the guy in front of me who watched the entire show from second off the rail through his phone, but I can see his phone clearly! He never put that phone down even when we ended up on the rail with Eddie making direct personal contact. I swear I don't think that guy saw one second of the show without the filter of the phone.
What a fantastic show last night. Took my 18 son. His first show. Unfortunately the kid just in front of him got a tambourine from Ed but he was super excited and we were happy for him.
Off He Goes is my favorite PJ song and I was thrilled to hear it. Live it was so touching and emotional. They play the hell out of every song. Couldn’t hold back the tears. The energy at the forum was intense!

What an opening night in the Forum! the LA crowds have a bad reputation and i was nervous about that heading in since the '22 shows werent really spectacular, but everyone showed pumped up and ready to sing!
a fantastic, emotional start by the band with Oceans - Come Back - Off He Goes - then everyone went crazy during Why Go.
In My Tree, Save You, an awesome version of RVM with Andrew Watt and of course a touching Faithfull really elevated the night. Cant emphasize enough how great Upper Hand/Stevie/Dark Matter are live, put them in the middle of the set any show for me.
SOLAT and Leash in the encore were nice surprises and the roof was going to blow off with Alive into Baba. You can tell Ed felt the energy and the rest of the band fed off it too. After 28 shows I'm not sure if i've seen a better stretch from Mike, he's playing out of his mind these last 3 shows. And even though we know it's coming Setting Sun with those visuals is a very cool way to wrap up shows.
They brought it in night 1 and im expecting it to be topped tonight for show 2.

Amazing pics @Charlie_mod I see myself in the fifth picture down. What an incredible night. Took my 14 year old son and we were on the floor near the rail by Mike. Ed gave my son a tambourine!
I figured I’d ask here; did anyone take pictures of Ed giving out the two tambourines last night? If so, would you mind sharing?
First time seeing PJ last night (used to be a music journalist so have seen 100s of shows) and they have definitely still got it! Pretty nice to get to hear my namesake song too. I don't particularly love the production on DM, but it was a lot of fun watching Andrew Watt rock out like a 15yr old on stage with the band.
The performance was really strong - I was nervous about Eddie's voice reading some of the comments here, but he sounded good for 90% of the show and was only fading a bit by the very end of Leash/Alive but the crowd more than filled in. Mike was in amazing form and the most energetic member of the band, running across the stage and out into the crowd near the end too. Eddie seemed genuinely touched to be playing the Forum - told a story about sitting in the nosebleeds with his dad as a kid, and then brought a father and son down from that section to the pit), his friend forgetting tickets to a Pink Floyd song and having to sit in the parking lot outside the venue and listen to The Wall from outside, and had a nice interaction with a woman in the pit who had brought her 83yr old dad who was also in the pit.
For me personally the setlist was pretty mixed - some all time highs (RVM, Save You, State of Love and Trust, seeing Daughter/In My Tree, Leash, Evenflow live) and then some songs I'm a bit meh on (Come Back, Oceans). I thought the pacing of back to back Dark Matter/latter era songs killed the overall energy a few times - particularly the Scared of Fear through Got Some portion of the set.
My main takeaway is I'd love to see them again and hope for more from Binaural, Yield, Riot Act, and No Code - but that may be the total opposite of other people! I would have loved Elderly Woman, Low Light, Better Man, Leatheman, Hail Hail, or Corduroy but that just happens to be my favorite era of the band.
The crowd energy was strong for a relatively vertical arena vibe, and I was in 134 with most people standing the whole time. I got aisle seats through TC and the view was amazing regardless of what anyone else around us was doing. Hope folks have a great night at LA2!

I had forgotten about that until you mentioned it. Scoured my '93 boots and found it. Here's the video. I think it was his mic that shocked him.
