Best versions ever?

As I reflect on 2 incredible shows in Vegas, it got me thinking.   What are the best versions of each song ever performed?  Ie do the evolution in South America, breathe at msg, red mosquito in San Diego with Ben Harper are some of my top versions.     Is there a list of these somewhere?  If not do we create it via a poll or something?  Just a thought.

This task is impossible. There is no way the fanbase are able to gather around one particular version, except for a few exceptions perhaps.
All the songs you mention here, I prefer different versions :)

Also, there are so many versions to choose from. You are bound to miss many good ones doing a poll.

Totally get it.  Just wonder if maybe there’s a “top 5” poll?   Impossible to pick one but the cream will rise through the subjective top?  Thought it might be fun to curate such list.   Love to hear your preferences so I can have a listen!

There are two song performances that I've heard in which I'm comfortable declaring them as the best ever versions.

Black - the Spectrum 2003 Philadelphia
    Crazy Mary - Cincinnati 2006

The best version of every song is the one that wasn't played that time Eddie audibled and skipped it on the set list.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Top 5 Immortality (yeah, not played in Vegas) performances…

    1. Toronto 2000
    2. Berlin 1996
    3. Melbourne 1998
    4. Oslo 2012
    5. Hartford 2013

There are a few 2006 performances (Cleveland and Adelaide come to mind) that deserve mention.

Nice.  How about rats?  Atlanta 94 was pretty good.   Best superblood wolfmoon was Ohana 10/2 imo.

    A couple easy ones:
People Have the Power - Buffalo 2003
    Daughter / It's OK - Jones Beach 2000

Long Road 3/29/98 - Ed & Jeff with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan or PJ 7/7/2006 with dedication to Clayton Liggett.

You could pick any version of any song from the MSG shows 9/11/98, 7/8/2003, or 5/21/2010 and not be wrong.

I remember years ago (maybe 2004ish) there was a thing called 'Green Habit' I believe which had the 'best' version of each song.  It was sequenced in the order the songs were first played live and went up to the VFC tour if I recall correctly.  Pretty sure I downloaded it somewhere and listened to it loads the time.

I had this burned to CDs back in the day!  All the versions were voted for on the RM forums, this is it if interested (looks like one track was subsequently added onto this list (KKK took my Baby Away) but a good reference).

I remember Green habit!  Great call.
Re Black, I recall Ed saying that Fort Worth 9/13/2023 was one of the best Mike solo’s he’s heard.   Give it a listen.

Ridleybradout made an updated version of Green Habit about six years ago. Although It’s missing a few of my choices (impossible to make everyone happy) but it’s outstanding.
