I think you don't have overnight rock band success stories because there are so many different avenues for discovering new rock music now. It's not like the old days when we were all listening to FM rock stations and hearing basically the same stuff. It's a slower build now. As a result you have bands like Ghost and Goose playing arenas. King Gizzard is getting close. Just to name a couple.
I agree completely about the lack of rock band success stories and it being a different model now. However artists like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone seem to be the "rock stars" of today - I don't know if its overnight success but they do seem to have had some of that instant impact and early career success which means they can sell out stadiums and headline the big festivals now.
I get they're solo artists, but I do wonder what makes them able to have such success in the same industry landscape whilst bands seem to struggle to break through in the same way with the younger generation.
I think there is more of a monoculture around pop music than rock music these days. You could extend that to someone like Noah Kahan. No judgement, just an observation.
Is Pearl Jam rumored/official for Jazz fest 2025? Have not back read.
That is the rumor, yes. The Saturday May 3 slot falls right between Atlanta and Nashville...and would be a realistic travel plan.
Every other city visit has three days between but Atlanta to Nashville is five.

No, we all just get a year older every year and less in touch with what is popular and in demand
this ^^^^
And their unwillingness to even go, why go through the lineup to find anything good. So everything just automatically “sucks”.
I started thinking the same way too, then I just forced myself to keep going and it’s amazing how many new acts I find myself loving by the time the weekend is over.
Keeps it so that yes, I may be the grumpy old guy shaking my fist, but at least I don’t mind the kids on my lawn as much.

A lot of these fests are swimming in nostalgia though. It's like this is shit I didn't want to see 20 years ago much less today.
The whole late 90's early 00s nostalgia trend kind of sucks. It was bad then and bad now but the I see how the whole backwards hat, girls gone wild culture appeals to the whole fake internet alpha male culture that seems to be popular today.

I think the smaller, regional festivals are better for this. I'll likely never go to a huge fest Ala Coachella ever again...too many people and too much other bs going on. I went to Shaky Knees a few years ago (teenage daughter and friend had some bands they wanted to see) and had a blast -- found lots of great bands.
Side note: Me as a grumpy old man telling my daughter and her friends what Lollapalooza USED to eb like....this traveling circus that swept across the country introducing these great bands to us. Still some good acts but the one location format just isn't what it was built for.

DMB, Fall Out Boy and Luke Combs are your headliners.
Festival headliners get worse every year. Same thing happening over here in the U.K. - the line up at Reading for example is absolutely terrible compared to the 2000s which were fantastic. Reading used to be the best festival in the world in its prime. Strangely you have to go to the smaller festivals like Victorious to get a decent line-up.
I think we are getting old LOL. I looked at the reading line up and felt like my dad when i was growing up. Its absolute bollocks
New "rock" is stuff like Imagine Dragons.
OAR is good stuff, but they've been around for almost as long as Pearl Jam.

Maybe it's an American thing but they've been popular here for 25 years
Is there any new and robust rumour about a possible European Tour in 2025? Apart from the price of the tickets, like it happened last year, the band tends to announce their tours with little advance notice. With the Dark Matter tour, they announced it in February with the beginning of the tour in May. Considering that the majority of the fans have jobs and/or are parents, it surprises me that they don't release the touring schedule with a little bit more time, especially nowdays where it seems that even for bands some places might be harder to book due to conflicting schedules with other bands that are on tour.

Most people think there’s no Europe this year.

For what is worth,i remember reading on this message thread in December of 2023 a post that pretty much detailed the Dark Matter Tour of 2024, going so far as getting right on the exact dates of each show and even, i think, the venue. One never knows

The information was being shared publicly here and elsewhere as early as November 2023.

Is the utter absence of rumors for the rest of 2025 a sign there's nothing?
Still a smattering of South America November rumors and the Soldier Field one, that’s about it. So probably not much more if anything

I think there has been a general trend to announce shows farther out so TM can hold your money longer and earn interest on it. Have all the current shows sold out? If they are playing the fall then I suspect we will hear something in March or April. Just a guess though.

If they were planning to tour Europe in '25, I think we would have got some good intel on it by now.
The silence / lack of rumors speaks volumes.
Looking forward to a non-album Euro tour in 2026 🤞🏻
