Love for “Got to Give”…so good!

Most underrated song!  I’m 142 shows deep and I didn’t think this band had this record left in them. The album is the absolute best mashup of every track I love and then blended into something new, fresh and yet somehow familiar. “Got To Give” speaks to me as an anthem more than any song on this album.  This is the first “no skip” album since Yield for me.

This song is really great.  Reminds me of The Who, and I'm with it being an anthem rocker.  So many cool parts to this song, and layers.  I'm 10 listens in and still discover things with this beauty.

Placement before the end of the album reminds me of Force of Nature, another underrated gem…Really great song…

Agree I see a few people ranking low on the album but I think it's great as well

    It's a good one

I love the little guitar doodle at the start after the drums kick in, that sounds VERY similar to Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me, which we all know the band is a fan of

I really like it, and it's great finally having something that rocks so close to the end of the album, sets up the last song perfectly.

Sometimes it's not only about the quality of the song but this is also the right kind of song to have in this space of the album

This track is so good!  It’s lower in how I would rank the songs on this album.  However, that tells me how fantastic this album really is.  Fantastic album from beginning to end.

Probably my favorite on the album very much a who sound especially at the end... gives me a bit of in hiding or given to fly vibes too!

I love it. I also get strong Who vibes from it. It's one of my favorite tracks on the album.

Lots of people in this thread and early album reviews referring to The Who for this song.  I couldn't agree more.  It's something they've done before with recalling The Who heavily, especially on an Ed-penned track, but this is the very best of any of those songs in that category.  This is a great song and really helps the album finish up strong.

I'm sure this will sound weird to some people and many might argue with it, but the vibe (just the vibe) feels, to me, like "You're True" with the whole band instead of just Ed+uke, then cranked to eleven.  I mean that in the best way; I've been a fan of The Who since earliest memory.

This song is definitely the most underrated of the album. I sort of keep forgetting about it, then playing it saying, "wait, why dont I have this on repeat?"

I like it a lot but also like Force of Nature and get those vibes in that I see it being played rarely as well, with a group of people saying WTF on this forum due to said rarity.

Ed will struggle to sing this live so this will definitely be a rarity. It's a superb song tho.

It was the song playing in my head when I woke this morning. I think I'm hitting enough shows this year that I should be able to see it live.

Feel about the same.  Usually a few skip songs but none on this record.  Got to Give is really growing on me.

You have hit the nail on the head here my friend. I have been trying to categorize this piece of work for a few days with all the different vibes, sounds and styles. Great description.

Yeah, I think it's an early underrated song as well.

Does anyone happen to know why the full lyrics for it aren't in the liner notes like the other songs?

Force of nature is the best song on Backspacer - lyrics are incredible and music is great - it’s really a lost song - hopefully the blow the dust off and play it

I was just listening to "Got to Give," and thinking about how it reminded me of "Force of Nature." I came to the board looking for the "Got to Give" lyrics that were posted from Apple Music, saw this post and couldn't agree more.

Favorite song on DM.  Just barely because so many songs are so good!  Force of Nature is a hidden gem as well btw.  2nd fave on backspacer after UK to me personally.

Got To Give is such a banger.  It ends up in my head daily.  This is going to be awesome live.

I never got in to The Who, but since I'm loving this song, I might check them out.  Anyone have a recommend album to start with?

I'm by no means an expert with their discography but 'Who's Next' could be a good place to start - includes some of their well known songs such as Won't Get Fooled Again, Behind Blue Eyes and of course PJ cover-favourite Baba O'Riley.
