I really had to let this marinade. I'm going Wreckage with Upper Hand a close second. When I hear Upper Hand I do get some "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" chords. Another Pink Floyd like transition between Waiting for Stevie and Running. I absolutely love that.
I wish I was a sacrifice, but somehow still lived on.
After a month and change I still have Upper Hand at 1 but Setting Sun & Waiting for Stevie are right behind. I think those 3 plus Scared of Fear & Wreckage are all instant classics, like legit top tier PJ songs. My LEAST favorite song on the album (Won’t Tell) is an already beloved fan-favorite that could have been a single and isn’t like anything they’ve done before, and that’s the FLOOR on Dark Matter. I expected to love it, I love all the albums; but this is so far beyond what I expected at this point. Just an incredible achievement.
I have been obsessed with Setting Sun...and it truly is one of their greatest closing tracks of their career (controversial statement)..and now, one of their greatest set closers. But its SO good, it is masking how absolutely top-tier Got To Give is. I feel Got To Give has so much work to do after Something Special that it's not getting enough love. The ending of Got To Give is Pearl Jam 1996-98 absolutely top tier.
(I guarantee their will be b-sides popping up that in coming years - and they only needed to sub in one track to replace Something Special to make this album 10.0/10.0 perfection)
Wreckage is probably my favourite song atm after the video from Vegas was released. So beautiful & powerful at the same time

11. Wreckage? Whats not to like? Leaving people for dead?
Def the worst on the album. Same level as buckle up.
What? Buckle UP is cool, man. you probable hate Parachutes and Parting Ways too, huh?
How dare you put the godly Parting Ways next to those songs. Shame!
cuz these folks like FM in the Brain hate all the PJ slow songs. Parachutes is up there with parting ways for sure.
Lo,I just saw this. You know I can't hear Parachutes without thinking of you! I don't hate all the slow songs. Just Yellow Moon, Bee Girl, Parachutes. And, now, Something Special. Buckle Up does get honorable mention.
I love (love!) many slow songs.
Hope all is well, my friend!
Waiting for Stevie is(now) favorite on this record but I don't love the outro. Just seems out of place, but the song is badass

I don't think "slow song" is the right descriptor for "Something Special." It's midtempo. Now "Yellow Moon," that's slow.

Meh, that doesn't make it any better or worse for me. (Not sure it can be worse....but that stated, the new record is very good)

And Still...firmly cemented as the worst of the album, Wreckage.
However, after seeing the live shows in LA, Wreckage sounds phenomenal live. Those guitars sound superb.
I think the top 3 songs that sound best live are: Waiting for Stevie, Running, and Wreckage
I missed out on Got to Give
I think Got to Give will be epic live.
Hopefully at Ohana fest...
