Wmmr always seems to get the early scoop on any pj release or big announcement!
There's only 1 rock stations in NYC but it's a classic rock station. And they don't play new Pearl Jam
8 million folks living in NYC and there is only 1 rock station?
Yea it was turned into the FM signal of 1010 Wins.
"They all turned into the mellow sound of The Rain".
I got serious Airheads vibes reading that and this quote from Milo sums it up. Disappointing.
That’s crazy with NYC so big. Atlanta has two modern rock/alternative stations, plus another classic rock one and we still can’t get a PJ show!
Wasn’t like that in my day 🤣. We had 92.3, 92.7, 102.3, 104.3…what else? All the college metal stations in the 88-90 range 🤣 . Ratings game and z100 type stations rule the day.

I don’t know if you can get the signal, but 90.5 The Night is where it’s at. They have a bunch of the original DJ’s from FM 106.3 - which was the premier modern/alt rock station starting in the 80s. It’s where Matt Pinfield started out. Best of all… no commercials.

It's a function of demand. The rock audience is mostly a nostalgia audience in 2024. Just look at how many people who are big fans of '90s bands but have little interest in anything those bands have released after the '90s.
If there were a sizeable audience for new rock music in 2024, there would be more commercial radio stations that play new rock music. Even some of the stations that purport to play new rock music are just glorified oldies stations. For example, KROQ in L.A. only plays about 20-25 percent new music.

The good old days. Between 92.3 and those college radio stations there was always something good to listen to.
