About 22 years ago, I planted an October Glory Maple (Acer rubrum) behind my wife's bookstore. I brought it from the nursery in my van and the trunk was only as thick as my thumb. I don't have a photo, but it now towers above the two story building and has a hefty and very huggable trunk. I have zero shame in saying I have hugged that tree. Go ahead and laugh all you want.
