Soundgarden with Eddie on Vocals

lexicondevillexicondevil Posts: 2,002
I know this will probably never happen(and maybe this has already been mentioned), but how cool would that be if Eddie did an album with the Soundgarden guys? Seems only fair, since Matt plays in PJ. I feel like it could bring out some interesting results and also creatively stretch the band and Ed.
There is obviously NO replacing Chris, but they could write new songs and maybe get rejuvenated at the same time. Just a crazy idea...

1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
Nothing since then. I suck.

2022- Oakland Night 2

Inverse Temple sounds pretty rad.  I think Corey Taylor could also maybe fit with them.

I think if Soundgarden were to ever continue as a band in any way the only vocalist that could make that happen would be Brandy Carlile, she was epic on Black Hole Sun and Searching with My Good Eye Closed, and I could see Soundgarden continuing and Brandy being accepted by most fans, and there is always the possibility of something like Temple of the Dog happening where Ed and everyone else in PJ and Soundgarden as a collective make an album that's dedicated to Chris like Temple was for Andy, but it is extremely unlikely that any of this will ever happen, and Soundgarden still has at least one album they'll be releasing with Chris' vocals...

Looking forward to that new album with Chris.
Honestly, I am not really a fan of Brandy Carlile's voice. Her voice just doesn't do it for me. I wish it did.
Ed and Soundgarden just seems like it would be an easy fit.

I think the challenge is if you want to record and tour, you probably want to find someone that doesn't already have an established full time gig.   Otherwise, you'll end up running into issues where you're second fiddle (kind of like when Matt Chamberlain had to cover a short tour for Soundgarden because Matt was busy with his Day job :) ).

I was surprised that Ritchie Kotzen didn't hook up with SG. Seemed like a perfect fit to me.

    Yes!!!

IMO Ian Thornley from Big Wreck would be perfect if Soundgarden were to ever came back to play shows.

I hadn't really listened to her much, then I saw her at Ohana in 21 and became a big fan.

    This is the way.

Sometimes when not paying attention and big wreck comes on the radio, I do a double take whether it’s SG. Not sure how many other yanks here are in the know on this question. Ed’s voice just doesn’t fit SG

I think for me, I'm not looking for someone who sounds anything like Chris. I don't really want someone to come in and sing old Soundgarden songs. It would just make me wish it was him and not that person. I think Ed would be good for new songs, because it would be totally different. You'd have the harder sound of SG and then Ed's signature vocals. It might be an experiment failure or a WOW.

Loved the first album. I’ve listened to some of the subsequent stuff over the years. Was shocked and excited when they announced a Dallas area show last year but to my surprise it sold out well before the date of the show so I missed it. That bummed me out.

Bummer! The Albatross album has grown to be one of my favorites. I’ve seen them a handful of times and they’ve been relatively small crowds but fun times.

I think it would be cool for the band to be able to play the SG songs live and serve them well. There's not many other male singers that can do that. Ian could.

But I do understand what you mean.

He was on the short list for Velvet Revolver, but ultimately told the band he couldn't be their singer if they insisted he lose the guitar. he declined.
