The poster game is dead

evsgjammevsgjamm Posts: 2,103

Now I know this is 311 in the first image, but still....... I'm shocked to see the prices of some of these artists prints.

What's everyones thoughts? Do you think the market is cooling? The same? Heating up?

For regular edition prints I think it’s cooled.
APs and special releases not so much. A very special poster just sold for $10k here a few weeks ago.

I think its very seasonal and when the band tours its much more active. Also the increased volume of posters created in the past 5 years posters, makes most of them worth very little.

Maybe yes... maybe no.  More recent show prints are definitely certainly produced in big numbers.  Interesting though is that the yield print is still going for well over the original sale price and it's not even a screen print.  So maybe yes... maybe no.

I would say the market is pretty well saturated more than I would say it's dead.

This is also a good thing for anyone who's just a collector. Sure, it's always nice when something appreciates, but OTOH, fewer people flipping = more posters in the hands of people who want them at reasonable prices.

I've been surprised what some posters go for. The highly sought after ones seem to keep going up, but the average poster from 10 years ago seems to have gone down.
My guess has been less interest in keeping a flat file of a whole bunch of random posters in it. People want the ones they'll hang and sell the rest. Looks like even Jeff went that route!

Anything Brian Methe sells will be cheap.  He makes multiple versions and has a small following.  The other posters you show are also over printed so everyone has one.

Look up Chuck Sperry Posters and come back and let me know if those are dead.

I've got a few that are worth some house payments.

It depends on the band and poster artist, IMO. Has the Pearl Jam poster market cooled? Yes. Have poster markets for more active, younger-leaning demographic bands like Billy Strings and Goose heated up? Yes.

truth...then that younger demographic becomes aware of the history of prints....and then.  ebb and flow

Well, if it causes the 2003 OKC poster to drop down to prices I can afford, then it wouldn't break my heart.

Sweet lew that is wild. Good insight in here though. I just listed several posters on fweebay and not one sold. I started my asks at what I thought were conservative bids. The market spoke and disagreed harrrrrrrrrd.
